Awesome dentist, EXCELLENT hygienist. I just wish I got a fluoride treatment like I used to growing up? Maybe that's not a thing as you get older, my fault for not asking about it. Anyway the reason it is a 3.5 and not a 4 is because how difficult it was just to schedule my first initial new patient appointment. It was more difficult then it should and/or needs to be, but regardless I still waited and kept calling etc. Finally I got my appointment and I was happy with my choice of Dentist. I will definitely be keeping Dr. Dodd! read more

This is the worst dentist office I've ever been to. I called and informed them that I would be late. They told me I had 15 minutes. I got there at 9:13 Dr came out, never introduced herself and just said to me all I can do is the x-ray and evaluate you you gonna have to come back but you don't say hi you don't say good morning you don't say nothing I politely got up, took my paper off the clipboard and walk out music to loud and he was rude and obnoxious if it to him to be a black dentist mail at that I would never recommend this office to anyone even if you have an a dire emergency if you had to take your pet, I wouldn't recommend him to do you at all and I wouldn't give him a less than a Star read more

I like , Dr. Dodd very much but my appointments keep getting screwed up. I have an appointment in my calendar for tomorrow called to confirm the time and I am told I do not have an appointment. I walked to the office in June and made this appointment. I am a very competent individual. I am considering another dentist , as my dental health is very important. read more

Loved stopping by Dr. Dodd's office earlier today. I value businesses and facilities that have refined their procedures to be compliant with cdc recommendations due to covid and Dr. Dodd has exceeded in that regard. I was in and out for a cleaning in under and hour and Dr. Dodd and his team have my teeth looking and feeling brand new Will be sure to recommend their services to others as well. read more

Great Dentist conveniently located in the heart of Center City. Relaxed environment, jazz & blues decor playing chill jazz/reggae music. Receptionsits arent overly friendly, but overall a very pleasant & efficient experience. read more

I will concede the receptionists can be a bit short like others have mentioned, but if you're nice to them they warm up. True, the customer should not be the one having to manage a somewhat prickly staff, which is why I knock them down a star, but Dr. Dodd is great. He will not try to pressure you into procedures you don't need, and he's very easy going. I like the office itself. It's decorated with lots of unique art pieces (the doc used to own a gallery), and there's a huge mural that takes up the entire wall of the treatment area. I wish I knew the hygienist's name, but she is very gentle. I recommend this practice. read more

Dr. Dodd has the most amazing chair-side demeanor. He always made me feel comfortable and at ease. Walked out of there feeling beautiful and looking forward to my next visit. read more

Let me start off by saying I have a bias. As in I love the dentist! Nothing beats a scaling and cleaning. But specific to Dr. Dodd's office? In a word? Home-y. As in comfortable, your best friend, relaxed. Nicole the receptionist was quite nice - came in for an 11:30AM appt with Dr. Dodd and filled out the standard paperwork and was seen within 30 minutes. The couch was a bit hard, but got the job done - there is room for about 4 in the waiting room. Atmosphere is casual - you've got the blues and jazz playing - beautiful cultural artwork all over the office, including a gorgeous mural on the wall. Once you head to the patient chairs, you may meet Keisha (sp?) - the wonderful dental hygienist. I got a full set of X-rays done and then she went to work on scaling/cleaning - providing useful tips for brushing, flossing, and the like. Such a doll. Then you'll meet Dr. Dodd - straightforward and to the point, but congenial to be sure. He'll make sure you're up to speed and everything is in order before he sends you on your way. The entire appt took about an hour. The office is located on the 16th floor of a dated, but elegant old structure. read more

I love my dentist. Now, that is obviously a strange statement but it's true. I love my dentist and I love going to the dentist and I'm not afraid to say it. We have all had that horrific experience with the really crappy dentist who jabs our gums and scrapes with the force of a marine sergeant. There is absolutely no need for this brutality and I find it hard to believe that it is somehow beneficial in the long run. I have been to Dr. Dodd for a couple of years now and I have absolutely no complaints. I am vigilant about the dentist (as I don't want to be a toothless old lady) and visit every six months like clockwork and always get anything that is necessary taken care of. The offices are clean with a great music selection of neo-soul and jazz. The dentist is a huge jazz and art fan and much of the office is covered in art (some his own) and a massive jazz inspired mural. Dr. Dodd usually only sees you for the big stuff (ie. cavities, etc.) but the hygienists I have seen each time are unbelievable - every one. I have stopped asking for a particular one as I find the entire staff to be phenomenal. If your insurance covers it, go to Dr. Dodd. He will take care of you and you will leave with a big, sparkling smile! read more

I had been putting off looking for a dentist for....a bit too long and knew it was time to get a cleaning. Honestly, this was the first one that was accepting patients and taking insurance. Turns out that the odds were in my favor this day. I stepped into the office and instantly felt a bit claustrophobic in the tiny waiting room, I'm not sure how I'd feel if it was full but I have a feeling that isn't common. Anyway, I got the first visit paperwork and sat down on an antique couch and got to it. The receptionist was very helpful with various questions I had about the paperwork, which I appreciate. I really love the decor in this office! It kind of reminds me of mini African Barnes Foundation, with interesting paintings, sculpture, and a mural. It makes the wait suck less. I had to get X-Rays, which took a bit of time...but I usually give myself an hour and a half for appointments, especially if I haven't been in awhile. The hygienist was really personable, we struck up a nice conversation and I was bummed to have to open my mouth and stop talking. She didn't berate me for my flossing habits, which was something that my previous dentist was kind of the worst about. She was really quick and my teeth felt nice. My teeth are clean and haven't been sore. I got my toothbrush. I will be back. read more

I found Dr. Dodd's office when my company insurance changed to a DMO (which most dentists do not accept). It was a little tricky getting an appointment, because of the DMO hoops you have to jump through, but I finally managed to get in last summer. The office environment is very casual, but I thought the dental care provided was excellent. Dr. Dodd and his hygenist were both great. However - I have been trying to schedule my next cleaning for over a week now. I have called at least three times a day with no answer, and the voicemail (when it picks up) is a generic recording that doesn't even indicate who owns the mailbox. Has the office closed? Did Dr. Dodd skip town? I am so frustrated - definitely moving on to a new practice. read more

Today was my first visit to Dr. Dodd's office. I must admit I was taken back by the decor. It's not like any dentist office I had ever seen. It was filled with art! And they played some funky jazz the whole time. The hygienist was VERY nice. She was also very informative about my hygiene habits and what I was doing incorrectly, and offered advice on better hygiene. After my cleaning, the dentist came to do an inspection. He took his time, meticulously documenting each tooth. He then provided a great plan of action that consisted of some extractions and root canals. I informed the staff that I needed the work to get done ASAP, and they were nice enough to write immediate referrals and even contacted the oral surgeon for me to schedule me an appointment. I will definitely recommend this dentist, and his hygienist. read more

I went to Dr. Dodd simply b/c my cheap insurance wouldnt give me much option. He was the closest to where i live and figured hes in a nice tall center city building so he ought to be semi decent. Boy was I wrong...... I had the worst dental experience. The hygienist checked out my teeth for 10 minutes and tells me my teeth need another thorough visit. She hardly cleaned anything and tells me I have to come back and get another cleaning done (for which I have to pay $90 out of pocket). After feeling a mixture of shock and embarrassment I told her I'd think about it. A few minutes later Dr. Dodd comes and examines my teeth. He pokes around for not more than a minute and tells me I'm good, no cavities, and keep up whatever I'm doing. At this point I was so confused!! I told him the hygienist asked me to come in for another cleaning? At which he replies "yeah come in if she asked you to." Are you serious Dr. Dodd? Are you the Dentist or she is? I contacted my insurance company to complain about the incomplete/inadequate service i received. The insurance company was of no help either. I will never come back to your practice Dr. Dodd and neither will I recommend anyone to come. The art is Okay, the machines are OLD and the floor is dirty. read more

Worst dentist office I've been to. I am usually a very tolerant person. Unfortunately this was the only dentist within walking distance to my house that accepted my insurance. (I've now switched dental insurances, and therefore dentists as well) The receptionist was always rude. The magazines were really outdated. I saw Dr. Dodd for an average of 20 seconds at the end of my routine cleaning appointments. One time, I was told when I arrived the regular dental hygienist was unable to come in, but they still "had someone" who could clean my teeth. I am positive that they asked a first-year dental student to come fill in, as she sprayed my face and hair with water by accident and made my gums bleed, and even stuck her metal pick under my receded gumline straight into the nerve! When I said "aagh!" due to the extreme pain, she said "I knew you would say aagh, because your gum has receded and your nerve is exposed." but then didn't offer any explanation how to prevent further recession or pain. On another occasion, we had some light snow, light enough that I walked down Walnut in my regular shoes, not boots. I had an appointment for 1 PM. I got there at 12:45 and waited outside the closed door, figuring they had not come back from lunch yet. At 1 PM, I started knocking on the door, with no response. At 1:10, I called the office number, and found a voice message that said they were closed due to inclement weather. No one had bothered to call me for a courtesy notification that they were closed. I wouldn't have minded if it had been a snowstorm or blizzard, but this was literally a dusting of snow. Please don't waste your time. read more

I would NOT recommend this office! Even though I showed up on time for my appointments, I often had to wait 30 minutes before being seen. More importantly, the office would overcharge me and also send me bills months or even years later for services my insurance supposedly did not cover. For your teeth and wallet's sake, find another dentist! read more

I cannot comment on Dr. Dodd's services as I never had the chance to meet him. This review pertains only to his office staff. I called a few times to try and schedule an appointment. The receptionist was very curt and rushed me off the phone each time. I ended-up cancelling my appointment and finding a new dentist. read more

The office is pretty cool with plenty to look at - antique furniture, plenty of art on the walls, and great music to listen to (read: no soft rock here). The receptionist was kind and helpful. Very down-to-earth and communicative. The Dr. Dodd is pretty straight forward, no frills. The hygienist was kind, pleasantly chatty, but not too much so. He was gentle and directive. The office is small. Seems to be only one dentist and one hygienist. But, this translates to more personal care. This isn't some dental mill after your wallet. Overall, my first visit went great. I wasn't there all day and the customer service was great. And my mouth isn't in pain. read more

I absolutely love this dentist. I have been going her for at least 5 years. Dr. Dodd and his hygienist are superb. I never have a problem with the girls at the desk. I love the music they play and his artwork is amazing. I would highly recommend this dentist especially if you work in Center City. I go at lunch and have my teeth cleaned and they have me in and out in an hour. The longest time I have ever waited was for the elevator in the building. read more

I LOOVVEEEEE Dr. Dodd!!! His office is lovely, the employees are great and he does an excellent job in a timely manner. Unfortunately my new job doesn't offer insurance that his practice accepts. I MISS YOU GUYS!!! read more

Unkind receptionist. Won't make appointments in advance (e.g. Every 6 months). Communicates only via telephone; no email or online scheduling. Dentist and hygienist both fine for what I needed. read more

That was the most pleasant dentist appointment I've ever had. It's a super small practice with just the one hygienist, one receptionist, and Dr. Dodd, but they all made me feel very comfortable. I don't know why some people have said that the receptionist is mean or that Dr. Dodd has terrible bedside manner. That was not my experience at all. They all seem very competent, and I trusted them right off the bat despite this being my first visit. I can see them being open and frank with you about any results or issues with insurance, but I appreciate that directness and level of clarity. The office was also really neat (both in organization and in decorations). Dr. Dodd used to own an art gallery and now some of the pieces are on display in the office. I felt like I was in an art gallery not a dentist chair. I have never before been compelled to write a review, but I wanted to speak out against the overwhelming number of negative reviews that had me very nervous before I went. I don't know what those reviewers were expecting, but this practice has been the best one that I've gone to in my life. I'm actually looking forward to my next 6 month cleaning. Oh and to further demonstrate how wonderful they were, I left knowing that I will likely need a root canal but I still had an overwhelmingly positive experience despite the terrible news. read more
