I have ZERO issues with my teeth. They flat out were going to drill in my mouth and do unnecessary work which they most likely would have F'd up and caused me more problems in order to bill Medicaid. What is it with dentists and their shady billing practices? Smile Team is another one. I went in for a routine check-up. I was told that they needed to fill a hairline crack on one tooth. I ask how much it will be and I'm told it was 100% covered by my insurance. I sign some form on a tablet and the dentist fills the tooth. No big deal. 2 days later that filling cracks off and I go back for them to repair it. While I'm sitting there getting the tooth fixed, by a different dentist, she says that she sees a crack on the tooth behind it and says she can fix it right now. Out comes the tablet and I sign. Come to find out, the tooth one back can only be repaired using a different method, according to my insurance, not the way the dentist fixed it. So I'm charged for that fix! Why didn't the dentist tell me this? I would have asked for the insurance covered method of fixing the tooth. I call and complain and they said "you signed for authorization." Shady, shady, shady. I've been going to Smile Team for many years. Ever since covid, the quality has steadily gone down. I've been to the office ~7 times this year because I had a root canal and crown to get done, and every single time, I have waited in the waiting room for 1-2 hours. What's the point of scheduling an appointment if I have to wait that long? Also, they messed up my crown multiple times and had to have it remade, sending me between multiple offices that were extremely inconvenient for me to get to. Before covid, I saw Bansi Doescher many times and the wait times were not as bad. She is a great dentist! But she's spread too thin, they overbook like crazy, and they rely too heavily on assistants that don't have enough expertise to do all the work. read more

I have to look elsewhere for my dental needs. I was scheduled for a deep cleaning one month after my initial visit. I had to cancel that appointment and wound up coming back three months later. I was pulled aside sometime after checking in to be told that my insurance had not yet authorized the deep cleaning procedure but they could work on my crown instead which I already knew as well as they did that that procedure had already been denied and I would have to pay 800.00 out of pocket. I felt completely deceived, highly annoyed and let them know that. You're still waiting for authorization four months later that you still schedule me for but try to dupe me into doing one you already know I have to pay out of pocket for, yeah, I'm not stupid. And I have better insurance now that will pay for my crown but not to them. I'll also add that the waiting room furniture is dated and uncomfortable and the music is way too loud. With Covid still a major issue I had to lean in uncomfortably close for my side convo with the receptionist. read more

Don't wish to pile on but.. still cannot believe the bad experiences I had in the year I was going to Smile Team. I thought perhaps it was due to the pandemic but I've got to say it was very very bad. Like should I sue for malpractice bad. I went several times a year as I have a fair amount of implants in my mouth. Like most people, I trust someone who has a dental degree to look after my best interest. Not so much. Insult to injury, I developed an infection in my lower front gum under the teeth after a cleaning. A year later I can tell you I had to have two procedures to deal with what was not addressed in my cleanings, exams and consultations. A year of drastic pain and out-of-pocket expense. My new dentist, (see my other reviews) is by no means inexpensive, but they are thorough. I'd rather pay up front for excellent work than pay later in misery. Bottom line: if you have perfect teeth and gums this place might be your place (though the staff is ridiculously rude and the dentist is interrupted every few minutes by some petty thing needing attention in the office). If you need real dental work, find a great dentist who specializes in whatever you need. Don't look for it here. read more

I mentioned to them how disappointed I was and they laughably agreed to fix something's. AKA acknowledging it was THAT BAD. The second I was done with my appointment I called my old dentist crying (had to leave due to insurance changing) asking if he could see me real quick and asses the damage. Truely a terrible experience. I came here for about a year after reading positive reviews, and each visit was a disappointment. The front office staff was unorganized, so scheduling appointments was difficult. When I arrived on time, the team was always running 30+ minutes late. The team was very unprofessional, always gossiping about personal issues and often taking breaks from the dental work (but awkwardly leaving their hands and instruments in my mouth) while laughing and joking with one another about personal stories. It was really uncomfortable and painful. The staff is mostly women and they made a lot of sexist jokes about men the whole time, too. Really unprofessional. I had to get a cavity filled (which was very expensive) and they told me I had a few more that needed filled immediately. When I showed up for the next appointment they had me wait for an entire hour. I left and never came back. Dr. Doescher was quick to apologize for the delay and said these delays never happen, but in my experience it was every time. Worst of all, the filling that they gave me fell out one year later. DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE, THEY'RE INCOMPETENT! I went to ST because this would be my first visit to a dentist since COVID. Initially, it was an okay experience. The tech that took my X-rays was thorough. The dental asst came back & said that I had no cavities! I thought that was strange. I told them I get cavities in between my teeth and were they sure I didn't have any cavities??? They said yes! They gave me a basic cleaning. I wasn't working at the time, which gave me time to deal with any possible dental issues. Months later.... I get pains on my right hand side. I got an appt to come in, they wanted to clean but I told them about my issue. Once I explained my issue the dental asst took another set of X-rays, but why if they had my X-rays from months earlier. They wanted to pull my wisdom tooth that night (with the tooth and gums infected) and told me I'd be able to go to work the next day. I declined. When the dentist looked at the X-ray she said something "strange is going on with the left side and I think you need a root canal." I just looked at her like "you think?" Slowly but for sure my 2nd molar on my left hand side back to the wisdom HAVE BROKEN OFF. As I writing this, I am in pain. They keep giving me meds but that's it! AGAIN...... They told her a child could have made better dentures. Had to start over somewhere else and pay out of pocket. Every appointment took at least two hours. At her new place they have kept her 5 minutes each and she's nearly done in two weeks. Do not go there. Rude, cheap and they don't even put a bib on you. A very strange experience. No one introduced themselves to me so I had no idea who was who, multiple people looked into my mouth but then gave no explanation of whether it was good or bad?? Then one of them told me I had a cavity and asked me "do you want to drill today or do you want to drill next time?" Without any other explanation ... Um aren't you the doctor? I went in for a regular cleaning and exam and was excited as I'd heard great reviews. The entire cleaning/polishing process literally lasted less than 2 minutes. I have never had a cleaning less than 10 minutes, typically closer to 20 minutes. When I called in later to ask if this experience was standard, I was told it was a short visit because I had no specific concerns. The staff was very friendly and the office nice, but I could not be more disappointed with the dental care. Now I have to wait another six months for a proper cleaning. I went in for a cleaning based on a recommendation of a family member, but I ended up being very disappointed. Like others have said, no one introduced themselves or guided me through anything, so I was very confused the whole time. The cleaning was not thorough at all, and then the dentist let the student (who was still in school) polish my teeth and do my x-rays with no supervision. She struggled the whole time. He came back at the end to tell me everything looked great, but I stopped him to ask if he noticed a crack I had in an old filling. He said it was nothing to worry about after I questioned if this could cause problems in the future. He ended up saying the crack is only cosmetic even though I suspect otherwise based on sensitivity. He then agreed I could schedule an appointment to get the filling fixed. After coming here to read reviews, I'm deciding to go elsewhere! The only positive thing I have to sau is that they accept my medicaid plan so at least I didn't have to pay for anything. read more

Sadly, I can no longer recommend Smile Team. When I first joined a couple years ago, I had a great impression of their team and positive experiences with checkups. In the past year, things have really gone downhill. I had a bad experience with one of the new dentists that left me with a botched filling, which I had to get redone soon afterward. I have permanent tooth sensitivity from that, too. When I recently went in for a regular cleaning and checkup, the assistant (Assistant or hygienist? Unsure of her title) clearly gave no fs about the job. When it came time to polish my teeth, and the dentist had walked out, the assistant stood a foot away from me and clumsily banged the brush around my mouth a few times. She missed half of my teeth, and some of the paste ended up around my mouth instead. Let me tell you, it was truly bizarre and very uncomfortable (physically and emotionally, let's be real). I felt like I was being pranked. She might as well have handed me the brush, and I could've done a better job. I couldn't wait for it to be over, so I could get out of there. I was already considering switching dentists after my bad experience with the filling. This half-assed cleaning experience was the final push. It's a pity. The front desk staff are usually nice. I've liked some of the dentists. But my experience has been so inconsistent, it's not worth staying. read more

I had to take a trip to the emergency room after coming here because the lidocaine injection I was given was given by someone who clearly didn't know what they were doing. The women working there (pretty sure not even a dentist- I wouldn't know though because no one introduced themselves just stuck me with a needle) numbed me when I specifically told her that I didn't want to be overly numbed. Doctors informed me that she must've injected into a vein that lead straight to my blood steam. My tongue swelled so much that my airways were blocked and I couldn't breathe. I was so dizzy when I stood up and none of the workers there took me seriously or provided assistance- and they all made me feel dramatic when I was in fact not ok.... Don't go here I would give 0 stars if I could read more

2 stars for the friendly staff and good dentists, however scheduling is the worse I've ever experienced. I must have been here 6-7 times and my average waiting period is 45 min, nomatter the time of day. I figured booking early morning would be better - nope. We were 3 patients waiting outside a closed door at 7:30am this morning (time of our appointment). Front desk showed up around 7:40 and dentist at 7:55. Wasn't seated before 8:05 (and by that time the waiting room was full). Had half of my procedures done and then I was told to go out in the waiting room, no explanations - turns out they just wanted to fit in other clients. I waited so long that they had to numb me again when I returned to the chair at 9:45. I've never heard of a patient leave a chair during a dental procedure! Total was 3 hours for 3 fillings (mostly because of waiting around). I had initially called several weeks ago to book an appointment for two days ago and explained exactly what procedures I needed so they can schedule the time accordingly. I wanted Dr Doescher as she knows my history and was put on hold for 20 min so they could confirm that she would be there that day. Of course, when I get to my appointment she is not there so I needed to reschedule for today - this is disrespectful of the patients' needs as I came specifically to the city for this appointment. Again the staff is so nice but they really have to work on spacing out clients and not overbooking ++ all the time. This experience this weekend was unacceptable, but even more so during COVID. There were so many people waiting in the tiny waiting room, no social distancing possible. I did not feel comfortable and would have left but was smack in the middle of a dental procedure. read more

I am usually not someone who dreads going to the dentist, but after this experience I would never want to go back. First, the dental x-ray process was excruciating. They placed a large and uncomfortable sensor in my mouth that was awkward to bite down on and then would place very firm and painful pressure on either the roof or the floor of my mouth. The plastic cover and the sensor were sometimes placed so far in the back of my mouth that I would almost gag. Then, even though there was a person there specifically to suction water out of my mouth during the scaling procedure, water was still pouring out of the side of my mouth, down my neck and down the back of my shirt. They had my wear plastic goggles (I have never needed these during a dental cleaning) during the scaling and I can see why with all the water splashing around. They also did not polish my teeth afterwards which has never happened to me. Finally, I am really not sure whether I saw a true dentist during my appointment. No one introduced themselves as a doctor to me and, unless the person who was also scaling my teeth was the dentist (this is usually a dental hygienist) , I did not have a true dental evaluation. This is also just a minor thing, but the office in Center City is just not very nice looking. I prefer a very clean and tidy office but this space had very old and dirty vinyl floors and walls and cabinets that need a fresh coat of paint. Overall it just did not feel very clean for a dentist office. I will of course not be going back and think it is important that people know my experience because I chose to go here based on the excellent reviews. DON'T COME HERE I have not one positive experience for the 3 times I've been here, and today was my last straw with this place. Once is a mistake, twice is a coincidence, three times is a pattern. Today, I went in for a rebonding of my tooth. The Smile Team has always been an unorganized mess every time I've been there but I didn't know it could be this bad. During my extremely long wait to get started (the usual for them), I heard many things that made me feel EXTREMELY UNCOMFORTABLE and UNSAFE. All of which they tried to keep on the downlow, Including the assistant that kept telling one of the dentists that she "didn't know what she was doing" while trying to get me started AND more importantly that they were going EXTRACT my teeth!! After turning around and looking at "my X-rays and file" on the computer, what do you know? They WERE NOT my X-Rays or file, they were another patients that wasn't even scheduled for that day!! I increasingly became concerned about what exactly was going on and if they were even aware about what I was here for. They silently tried to fix their mistake, but it's not really a secret if you can hear everything they are saying while whispering. I tried talking to one of the assistants about what exactly was going on and she ignored me the first few times i asked, and then basically glossed over it like it was no big deal by telling me "not to worry about it". They were going to ruin the inside of my mouth for no reason, I HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON WITH MY CARE. At this point I already feel completely unsafe, when the dentist comes over to take a look at my bonding (Still not even an apology or any proper explanation). Now... at my last appointment I expressed my concerns with the dentist and they said that the rebonding would be the best option for my tooth and made the my appointment for my bonding for today. But NOW the dentist comes over and tells me that there is "no point" in getting my tooth rebonded?? huh?? then what am I here for ?? Why would you even tell me to get one in the first place?? First you were going to rip my teeth out, now i am here for no reason??? WHAT A JOKE!!!! When i pointed out to her that they said something completely different at my last appointment, she all of the sudden changed her tune and then wanted me to get my bonding done..... They tried to get me to sign some kind of contract for them to finally do my bonding. After my hellhole of an hour of waiting and constant worrying. I decided to get up leave. I will never set foot in that place again, they don't care about you or treat you like a human being. I am really not shocked at the other 1 star reviews, They just want your money. My son was a patient at this dentists office for about a year. He's been a consistent patient, getting cleanings, X-rays, following any and all dental advice by the dentist from the beginning til the end of our time with her. My son had a really deep cavity, as I am not a dental professional I thought he had broken the tooth. We took him in to be seen in an emergency and she informed us that he had a deep cavity and she wanted him to get a cap however she referred us to another dentist because she did not want to perform the dental work. I took the referral for his one tooth and went to a pediatric dental practice. When I got there they informed me that they preferred to remove the entire tooth because it was too deep and it was infected. I called smile team and asked her if she could just pull the tooth because my son felt most comfortable with her (I honestly didn't understand why she referred him elsewhere in the first place) she said she would pull it but I became hesitant after ruminating over why she sent us elsewhere. At that time I called a few practices to get yet another professional opinion. I ended up at cavity busters because they had availability for the very next day. I went to cavity busters and they did see the tooth that was infected and suggested that the tooth be pulled but they wanted to do another X-ray to see if there was anything else that needed to be worked on. At that time they told me my son had about 6 cavities, extra teeth in the back of his jaw that would need to be extracted as well as a tooth that should be coming in as a permanent tooth but didn't exist. In my mind I was livid, after an entire year of seeing this dentist it made no sense to me how none of these things were discussed, no treatment plan nothing. As far as we knew he had one cavity and was in good oral health. It bothers me to know that had I not taken my son to cavity busters I have no idea where that infection would have lead or what pain or damage those additional teeth would cause. I trusted her to care for my sons oral health and I completely regret it. To add insult to injury I get a phone call today reminding me of an appointment, I let the receptionist know I actually would not be returning and I was really disappointed with how irresponsible the dentist was with my sons oral/dental health. I received a voicemail about 15 minutes later in terrible Spanish asking that I call the office back because the receptionist was told I didn't speak any English and she wanted to get an idea of what went wrong with my experience. Had anyone looked at our chart they would have known that English is the first language in my household and it felt a bit discriminatory to assume that I don't speak English because of my last name. As a professional it seems the first line of business would be to know your audience and what language they speak before making any assumptions. I will NEVER go back to this dentist!!! Under any circumstances!!! Unfortunately due to a change with insurance, I had to settle for a dentist office who would accept my current insurance. My first visit I knew this office was horrendous and not professional when I seen them overbooked during a pandemic. I had a cleaning done and just like many other reviews stated they did not clean my teeth the way it should. The cleaning was less than 2 mins and pointless. I had to go to another dentist for an actual cleaning where they also gave me consultation and helped me. I went back for an extraction which was done and then a temporary crown for an root canal that was previously done by another dentist. As they were putting in the temporary crown, the doctor was having a conversation with someone else, not realizing she was poking me with the tool. I left with debris on the extraction site of the wisdom tooth that was pulled the day before. My last final straw with this dentist was when I went for a 6 month cleaning and again the cleaning was not a proper cleaning, then the doctor tells me I have 3 more cavities and needed a root canal. He began drilling holes in my mouth and then I hear him say to the assistant, "I drilled too big" he then left and had her fill the holes, i felt uneasy as something wasn't right. I started to get up and leave, she said I couldn't because I had holes in mouth. After she finished the doctor came over and looked. After Ieaving I was in pain. I've never left a dentist office with pain just from cavity fillings before . I got home and seen my mouth bleeding and a slit space in between my gums. I went to another dentist and had X-rays done to see why I was having pain and to get consultation about the injury to my gums. The X-rays showed that the fillings were put in wrong and also the bonding material leaked into my gum line causing inflammation and infection. Now I have to pay more money to have everything fixed. The person who initially did the fillings at Smile Team had no business even doing the fillings because she was just the assistant, which I believe now she had no experience. I should have followed my gut instincts and left that day ,but I'm sort of glad I did because I was suppose to return for root canal work, but there's no way in hell I would ever go back for any work done at that place!! read more

My mom has medicaid and so I was looking for a dentist that takes medicaid. I was initially attracted to this practice because of the high reviews. We initially went to their Northeast location. My parents had their xrays done and then cleaning that lasted maybe 15 mins max for each of them. I thought it was odd because I know a good cleaning takes much longer than that. Dr. Patel did the cleaning and just said that my mom needed some fillings done. I knew that my mom had underlying periodontal disease and was surprised that Dr. Patel didn't say anything about it. Next appointment, we went to the center city location to get the fillings done. Dr. Doerscher was there but it was another dentist who I can only assume is Dr. Iyer that did my mom's filling. She was dismissive and arrogant and didn't answer any questions. I didn't understand which fillings were done and if there was anything else wrong with my mom's teeth. Meanwhile, the whole atmosphere of the clinic is just completely off. it was disorganized and chaotic. Dr. Doerscher was running around everywhere doing everything. Everyone is chatting and talking about everyone else and the lack of professionalism was appalling. By our third appointment (fillings were divided into 2 appointments), I finally approached Dr. Doerscher to talk about my concerns about needing to understand what is going on with my mom's teeth. She was very nice in addressing my questions and looked at my mom's teeth and realized that she needed to redo some of the fillings that had been done! It was only when I brought up my mom's underlying periodontal disease that she gave us a referral to the specialist. I went to Penn Dental to get a second opinion. My mom is currently getting work done for her underlying periodontal disease and the fillings that were done by Smile Team were TERRIBLE and now needed to be removed and redone. I wished I trusted the negative reviews and stayed away. That's why I felt the strong need to write this so that folks know what they are getting themselves into.
