The bagels here are pretty good, at least the "everything" bagel was. My brother and I stopped in this morning for a light breakfast- he had the everything and I had the spinach (though I'm really not sure what possessed me to order that particular flavor...). The spinach just didn't taste right- I'll have to be sure to just get my usual everything or sesame next time. The bagels are good- chewy and not too dense. I would have preferred a heavier toast and I'll have to remember to order it like that the next time I'm here. They also have a lot of flavors a la Noah's, so you can get a variety of bagels along with a compliment of flavored cream cheeses. Though not of the same caliber as NYC or Montreal bagels, these are pretty good and make a decent breakfast. read more

This low review is primarily based on service and not the product. I've been coming to this joint for at least 5 years so one could say I am a local. One thing that I've seen way to often is how they favor certain customers over others. On more then one occasion I've witnessed the owners/management pass certain customers over in line for the more affluent families or individuals they know purchase more. I just came in this morning and ordered my usual bagel with a soda. A man came in after me and ordered his breakfast; both were finished at the same time but she rang up the man before me. Accident? Do you think this is good business? I wonder if they even realize they do it and it can be considered discrimination? One thing I can say for sure is that this morning will be the last time I give them my business. I'm all about supporting the local chains but this is one time where I would recommend that you go to Noah's. read more

My goodness these people are impatient. I walked up the case to (heh heh) case it out and before I was done reading all the names, the woman behind the counter is already pushing me to hurry up and order. There's no one behind me and it's only 9 a.m. so what's the rush? The man behind the counter was friendly enough to sort of make up for her rude behavior though. I ordered the cheese bagel and the jalapeno bagel with cream cheese. I agree with the other yelp reviewers about how nice it is when they cook it over water as it gives it a more fluffy taste. They certainly were a bit skimpy with the cream cheese and toppings in the bagels themselves though. A jalapeno bagel should taste more like jalapeno and not like a plain bagel with hints of some sort of spicy bits every 3-4 bites. Pathetic. The bagel itself is also a bit on the small side. For $1.80 (bagel with schmear, I was expecting something that could fill me up like a Noah's or Panera. Bottom line, I see a lot of penny pinching and a lack of customer service. Our family LOVES bagels. My husband and I bonded over loving them long ago and now both of boys love them too. We live close to this store and yet drive all the way to San Carlos, House of Bagels to get our bagels (about a 20 minute round trip!). We feel it is well worth it (especially since we get a dozen at a time). These bagels are more like the bagels you would purchase in a freezer section and thaw out. Not to be gross but recently we tried it again hoping it had changed for the better and my 4 year spit out his first bite of the bagel! We took these bagels to a potluck bbq. Another family brought bagels from another store . We felt terrible because only a few of our bagels (from Docs) were taken that day. Also, the woman helping us told us we could only have 2 knives because we were only buying two cream cheeses (a two dozen bagels!). I asked her if she can double check with the owner or manager on that. She said she was the owner and threw in another two knives but wasn't happy about it! The reason I didn't give no stars is because it is a great location, a nice ambiance and great selection of drinks. If you love NY bagels, I can't imagine you being happy with these bagels. read more

Just a regular bagel and deli place, but I feel this is the best lunch option in the area. I really enjoyed my turkey club sandwich on sliced sour dough and toasted. It was very tasty and had a good amount of avocado, turkey, bacon, secret spread, and tomato. Service as friendly and food came out quickly. Menu is straight forward but they also have burritos and sandwiches with a limited selection of bread types. This is a no frills place but there are a lot of tables to sit and chat or get some work done. My friend got the egg salad bagel sandwich and enjoyed it. Both were a good portion size and they have bags of chips too. By the way they don't have bathrooms here! So I was refered to the Starbucks down the way. I paid $5.00 for a "veggie" breakfast sandwich and asked for a couple tomato slices on it. They wanted to charge me another $0.50 just for that. I don't understand. If I'm already paying $5.00, why charge another $0.50 just to make a point of charging for what would be a free condiment anywhere else? And what is the point of calling it a veggie sandwich if you have to pay an extra 10% for a tomato slice? I would have paid, but the cashier was aggressive about it, saying "Do you want me to take the tomato off? ". Well, okay, just take it off then. Not happy. I have shopped here for years. This is my to go place when I need a fresh bagel to go. Doc's is pretty much hit or miss for me. I've had really good bagels here and ok to meh bagels. It's decent as a freshly baked bagel place, but you have to get lucky on the bagel batch that you get. Prices are super reasonable also. I like this place because it's super close to my apartment and service is always very friendly. I'm pretty sure I've tried every spread they have. My personal favorites are the sundried tomato spread and the honey butter. They also offer bagel dogs, salads, and other pastries. Doc's has good bagels and great service. The new management has kept the same menu, but the service is better, and they are no longer 'cash only'. I like the "Traditional Lox" served open faced. The 'Bagel Sandwich' combos are good too. This place is very popular with the Belmont crowd for a reason. It is just a bagel shop, so you probably wouldn't drive across town to go there, but if you are in the Carlmont area, it's a great place for a light lunch, or quick snack. If you grew up in NY, you'll likely agree that Doc's has the best bagels in the area. If you think the bagels sold in a plastic bag from Safeway are good, then you're probably not going to be impressed here, but then again, you apparently think bagels are just donut-shaped bread. Doc's bagels have crunchy crusts, chewy insides, and they'll be hard as a rock in a day or so if you don't keep them under wraps. That's pretty authentic. They do freeze well, though, as long as you're happy enough to toast them when you defrost. They have whole wheat bagels, and everything bagels, but they don't make whole wheat everything as a general rule. I've had great luck calling them the day before and requesting a couple of dozen made special, and they're ready for me the next day. Yes, they charge a little more, but if it gets me what I want, it's worth it to me. read more

I come here in the mornings sometimes before work when I'm feeling ravenous and cant wait any longer. Bagels are yummy and I always enjoy. There specialty cream cheeses are delicious. Sometimes service is amazing, and other times, a little rushy. More good experiences then bad though. As for variety, there is an awesome array of choices, but a couple other shops nearby carry more.
