Doc Martin's, at the Taos Inn, is just as quirky as Taos itself. The interior is not quite as upscale as a few other eateries in the area, but it's set within the original adobe house and celebrates local flavors beyond traditional chile, including choke cherry and fresh trout. Service is good, and the food is fresh and tasty, albeit a bit overpriced.

I wasn't sure if I should review under the Historic Taos Inn or Doc Martin's. The seating is split with the restaurant being off on one side and then open seating for just more casual drinks and dining in the Taos Inn main lounge area which was where we sat. The architecture of this place is truly majestic. I think this place has been around for well over a hundred years. I had peaked inside about two years ago but they were sadly closed for drinks and food at the time. Came back on my birthday on a Friday night. Initially, we were going to get dinner across the street but there was a 45 minute wait. Then it started pouring after we settled down to drinks so it was decided we were staying there. Which I didn't mind. It has a quaint rustic atmosphere and there was live music playing. For drinks I ended up ordering the Santa Fe nut brown ale (which I've had before and it's become my go to beer in New Mexico) and later a Teller Green chile martini. The martini was spicy to the right level and very smooth. For food I went with the smothered burrito platter with brisket meat that comes with a side of rice and beans. Boy oh boy was it smothered! Half with the red and half with the green. Because ya gotta try em both, amiright? The brisket was very tender and the sauces were exceptionally delicious. My boyfriend had some kind of southwest chicken torta sandwich and his mom had a burger. All in all, It was decent food and probably way more affordable than the other place. Would definitely come back again next time I'm visiting!

I arrive well after the last seating but was still served and was not rushed the food was very good I'd steak an old-fashioned and a rice pudding. All top-notch rice pudding had large pieces of brittle on top. It was not too sweet. The steak was cooked properly and the drink was needed after a long hand on the road

There was just one server for the entire dining room! The drinks were spot on. The food wasn't too bad and the truffle fries were good. A busy spot for a Tuesday night. A nice space with sink into the chair seating.

The Taos culture reigns.

There is something about this place that makes me feel I am exactly where I need to be. That said, service is iffy and robotic and the food is just average. But the restaurant, the daily music, the customers, WOW! I never want to leave. I want to return.

Motor lodge restaurants can be all over the place, with such large variations in clientele, timetables (those who are always in a hurry), and expectations. Our visit on a busy Sunday holiday weekend was better than we expected, in service, atmosphere and food quality. It is part of a National Register building and has the southwestern Rustic them down. Service was really solid, especially since they probably had more tables to serve than normal. Show some patience and kindness to your servers. The cocktails were solid--no doubt why the bar is popular. Highly recommend the elote dip--a very tasty appetizer! The New York strip plate was a lot of good food--with a perfectly grilled medium rare steak along with a cheese enchilada and pinto beans. I knock them down a bit just because the plate was to be covered with red chile, and that was MIA. The brisket didn't have any issues--tender and well prepared.

Tacos - one ground beef, one chicken and one mushroom

I had a reservation but all of the tables were full so I sat at the bar. Since I was by myself, it was fine. The bartender Michael took good care of me. I had a nice conversation with him and a local sitting at the bar. I had the tacos platter. It came with 3 tacos and I did one ground beef, one chicken and one mushroom. All were really tasty. The salsa was a bit spicy but not too bad. Good rice and beans. Not too heavy. Overall a nice taco platter. For dessert, I had the chocolate lava cake. This had a good lava center. It was not too heavy or rich. Nice whipped cream on the side. A nice meal to finish out my trip in Taos.

We stayed at this adorable motel in Taos New Mexico and decided to have dinner at the restaurant Doc Martins attached to the motel. The service was great and the food was delicious! The Taos Inn was super cute too!

I asked the locals about a good place to eat that was walking distance and this place wasn't mentioned. I wanted good New Mexican food that had a decent margarita....easy task right? Reviews on this restaurant are mixed so I went with an open mind. Overall, we had a great experience. Very busy location but we went early enough we could have eaten inside or out. Luckily, I asked the host if they were going to eat at the restaurant, where would they sit. She pointed us to the corner of the restaurant that had a couple steps down and seems out of the way of everyone but close enough to hear the music and feel apart of the vibe. If this small space is open...TAKE IT. Drinks - Awesome! If you're on the Margarita Trail, we had the Hot Mama and I Need a Miracle. The hot mama had a kick but not too spicy to enjoy. The "I need a Miracle" was very good and uses a house made lime juice mixed with pomegranate liqueur. Probably best margs we had all weekend. Ambiance - Busy but was still able to hear live music. Staff is very busy but we got a lot of attention. Food - Pretty good authentic New Mexican food. We had the Sweet Potato with Mole Tamale for an appetizer..amazing. Easily shared with 2 people. We also ordered the Carne Asada and Ribeye Fajitas. Both meals were cooked as directed (Medium) and I wouldn't cook any less or more. I normally don't eat the side beans but Doc Martin's pinto beans are worth trying. If you're visiting Taos, this is a must. There were ton of tourists there on the way to an event or next destination but there enough locals enjoying music and dealing with the crowds to know this is a good spot to eat.

When I made the reservation I asked for the opinion of the woman I was talking to about indoors vs outdoors and she said she loves their dining room so I went with inside and I'm glad I did. Cute little vases with flowers in each table not over done and very homey and classy. We ordered a cocktail and some appetizers including the blue cornbread. The cocktails were interesting and fresh. For dinner I had the best sea trout EVER! It was perfectly cooked, tender, juicy and full of flavor. I would get this weekly if I lived there. My husband ordered the tamale and it was a fresh twist on the New Mexican staple. Literally little celebrations in every bite! If we are back in Taos we will definitely return to Love Apple for it all: food, service and ambiance. Well done!

The patio kind of gave us the feeling of being in someone's backyard for a dinner, which was cozy and comfortable. The cornbread was okay, the house salad delicious, the tortilla soup really delicious. My husband had the grilled sea bass and really enjoyed it. I had housemade potato gnocchi, which was super delicious too. I like that the menu is seasonal and full of locally sourced items; they even have a board which lists the sources they partner with. They were out of a lot of desserts; we ended up trying the piñon tart, which was good. Important to know that this is a cash only spot! Service was great, but then there was quite a muddle with getting our correct check so we could pay and leave. Our check was swapped with another table. We had nowhere else to be and I was enjoying some peppermint tea and my husband some wine anyways, so it was fine that we had to wait a while before they finally brought the correct ticket to us, but in another scenario that could've been really annoying as we ended up there for over two hours total, a lot of it waiting for our check. They did comp us our dessert and my tea, which was the right thing to do and we appreciated that. Overall it was a pleasant dinner, with seasonal dishes and a nice, cozy ambiance. Unsure if we would return, but we don't totally regret going.

I was up in Taos for Saturday and chose to stay upstairs of this restaurant for the night. This place is about 45 min from Taos proper. The upstairs studio was nice, and has nice views of the area. The property also has a hot tub, but I didn't use it. There isn't much out in Tres Piedras, but this place makes up for it. Also great view of the night sky. I spied a beautiful moon from upstairs. Dogs are allowed here and ample parking available. Ice also for sale here. Nice, outdoor patio space too. Staff here were really nice and I had 3 people constantly check in on me. I had a margarita and a beer and my total came to $8. Chips and salsa were on the house. It was also really wonderful to hang out on Saturday night to hear the live music. Gary Reynolds was the musician and he was excellent! They also had all sorts of fresh baked goods for sale, pies and even smudge sticks for sale here. Will have to give a try next time. There is also some really neat history about this building and worth learning the history about the place. I had a good time and definitely would come back.

Our server, Chaniece, absolutely made the experience. I told her I wanted to order some of the most authentic Spanish dishes on the menu, and she came through perfectly. If you have questions about the menu, ask for her recommendations--you won't be disappointed. My partner ordered Martin's Breakfast Burrito, and I had the huevos rancheros. Both were fresh, flavorful, and exactly what we were hoping for. Michael's Kitchen is only open Wednesday through Sunday from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., so plan accordingly. We arrived around 9:30 on a Sunday morning and had about a 30 minute wait. It was busy, but the wait was actually enjoyable because the restaurant has several little nooks filled with antiques and artwork by local artists. There was plenty to look at, and the time passed quickly. Taos has many wonderful mom and pop restaurants, but from what I learned during our visit, there are fewer locally owned restaurants serving traditional Spanish cuisine. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to try all of them, but I'm very happy we chose Michael's Kitchen. It was about a 15 minute wait to get a table on a very busy Saturday afternoon. I am bumping up my review since it was a dog-friendly restaurant. Our server, Arthur, graciously brought me more water for my dog and offered me a bowl even though I already had both. For starters I had a Whiskey Smash ($14.75). I enjoyed it. I sampled a taste from my brother's beer flight ($18). My mom's Desperado Mexi Lager also. They were mostly enjoyable. Red apple cider was probably something I would have on the front porch. For lunch I had the BBQ brisket sandwich ($12.50) with fries, pickles, and onions. They did not skimp on the meat. There was BBQ at the table which I added because the brisket was a bit flavorless. I chuckled when our server brought the mac and cheese out to my ultra picky nieces. He stated to my sister-in-law that it was in fact the Kraft-style mac, but it wasn't. I mean maybe he should learn what that means first of all. But second... Can you believe those kids are so picky that they didn't eat a single bite? Eight dollars per bowl with a side. Wow. My kids would starve the rest of the afternoon if their food smelled and tasted half way decent. Lol. I can almost hear the mutterings at my parenting style. Hey at least I drank my overpriced whiskey cocktail. Because our party was so large, automatic gratuity of 18% was added to our ticket. The women's restroom was small and mostly clean, but awkward entering and exiting with other women and girls crammed inside. I did not like how tables in our area were left untouched long after other patrons left. If I had my choice, I would probably opt for an alternative place next time. I was not that impressed by the staff's overall indifference to all the patrons. RATING BREAKDOWN (3 stars overall, bumped up because they were dog-friendly!) During my visit in Taos, I had a chance to go to a few different wine places and none of them did "flights". Whereas the other place was generous enough to let me taste more than a handful of their reds this place only gave me one of them (which I didn't care for.) I didn't want to be an entitled customer so I (out of politeness) refrained from asking me for a few more samples. I hence opted out on ordering a full glass for something I might not enjoy as all I could get were the descriptions of several other reds he said. I sure was hungry though so I ordered the mixed green salad and the rotating dessert (some sponge spice cake with date in it.) Both of them (when I ate them later in my hotel room) were okay to decent but I wasn't nowhere near "impressed". Will I go back here when I am in town again? Maybe but I can simply go to the other one I liked more or some vineyards that are 20-30 minutes from the center of Taos. It appears that some other people experienced the same questionable customer service experience (based on their reviews) when I felt "unwelcome" or even "being dismissed" I know that it wasn't personal. Yup, 3-star is good enough for this place for now.
