After just two visits, including an extraction, we love this place. Here's why: 1) Experience: They make it fun from the waiting area with colorful walls and a TV playing kids shows to the dentist rooms. Each staff member gently walks the kids through all the tools, making it less scary. Staff's masks are unicorn, robot and other fun themes. At the end, our daughter got a balloon, chapstick, two toy rings and a bouncing ball. 2) Care: Each staff member is helpful, friendly, efficient and work to make your child at ease. 3) Location: It's in Falls Church, a bit of a drive from our SE D.C. home, but if you schedule a 8 a.m. appointment, the traffic isn't so bad. It took us 25 minutes to get there. It's within a commercial development space with free parking in the garage. There are a few shops nearby, including a coffee shop called Kindred Cafe.

At the last check up, she refused to open her mouth, was scared of anything going in or near her mouth (even a toothbrush!), and was especially afraid of the potential of getting an xray done. At the last practice we went to, they were insisting we should try to get an xray done, but they used the xray card that adults use, so my daughter was very uncomfortable, scared, and she kept gagging. They tried several times, but in the end we didn't get the xray, and instead we left with intense dental fear instilled. We were referred to Dr. Keaney by a friend, who raved about how gentle and kid-friendly the practice was. Upon arriving, we were greeted by friendly staff and they made us feel really welcome and comfortable. The white board at the front desk even had a welcome sign that included our daughter's name! All the rooms were pleasantly decorated and themed. Shortly after we went in, we saw Dr. Keaney, and she was exactly as described: patient, kind, excellent with children. She and the other staff (Jessica) actually took time to read our forms and talk with us about our past experience, and took special care to cater to our specific situation. During the checkup, Dr. Keaney carefully explained/demonstrated each step she was going to do, and was really able to put my daughter at ease. In the end, she was awarded with a balloon and goodie bag, so we definitely left on a happy note. They also had My Little Pony on the ceiling tv playing, which was another extra bonus. I really appreciated how we were asked if it was OK to keep the TV on during the checkup, which I thought was so respectful and thoughtful to me, as a parent. We live over 30 minutes away, and there are many closer pediatric dentists in our area, but we are more than happy to make that extra drive to this practice now. We are looking forward to the day my daughter gets excited to see the dentist, and I really believe Dr. Keaney will get us there. Thank you to Dr. Keaney and all the wonderful staff!

It's really rare to experience an office where all staff members are kind, helpful, and friendly, but that is this office. From the admin person to the front desk staff to the hygienists to the dentist herself, this is an office that truly cares for the kids and their families. All the staff are all positive and supportive. The office is very clean and conducive to kids, with tvs in the ceiling, toys in the waiting room, and kids decor throughout. There is a dry erase board where each kids name is written to welcome them, a very nice touch. Each kid gets a goody bag at the end and a token which can be used on the toy vending machines in the lobby. This is a HUGE hit with the kids! They usually get little jewelry trinkets or toys that they get excited about. One time the staff gave them balloons which was sweet. The dentist herself is very kind and gentle and thorough with the kids. She'll take time to answer questions and explain things. The same go for all the hygienists here. Over the phone, they told me the price for an x-ray and explained there were two options for the procedure: Option 1 (regular) would cost a certain amount, and Option 2 (non-regular) would cost more. Based on this information, I made an appointment. However, when I got there, they charged me the higher price (!!!) for what was clearly a regular procedure! To make things worse, Dr. Farah threw in an extra large consultation fee, which was never mentioned on the phone. And by consultation, I mean she briefly glanced at the x-ray and immediately started the procedure--no real consultation at all. It was a complete bait and switch. The whole experience felt like a trap, and to top it off, Dr. Farah's prices are way higher than other dentists in the area. I will never go back and will never trust her so-called friendly smile again. I felt completely ripped off

I scheduled an appointment specifically because Dr. Toothfairy's website advertises "Special Needs"…read morepediatric dentistry services. My autistic daughter has dental anxiety, and I selected this practice based on their advertised specialization. We arrived early at 1:00 PM for a 1:30 PM appointment. At 1:30 PM, in the waiting area/lobby, the assistant tried to gently encourage my daughter Avery to come to the treatment chair. Avery was calm and cooperative--she wasn't acting out she was just saying no and refusing to go into the dental chait. She simply didn't want to go into the chair yet. She needed time to acclimate. The assistant was kind, played with her, and worked at her pace. This is exactly how special needs providers should work. By 2:00 PM, still in the waiting area, Dr. Lara Saleh came out of the treatment room. She greeted another patient with baby, returned the baby. She turned to look at Avery and was introduced by her assistant. At that moment, Dr. Saleh pointed at her imaginary watch--literally gesturing to a watch that wasn't there--to show me her urgency. She demanded I carry my CALM daughter to the chair. Which any SPECIAL NEEDS provider would understand how traumatizing this is. I directly refused. I told Dr. Saleh: "I will not carry her to the chair. That would be traumatizing." Forcing a calm, cooperative child who is simply taking time to acclimate is abusive and creates lifelong dental trauma. Any provider who truly specializes in special needs understands this fundamental principle. I asked "Why are you rushing me when you advertise that you provide special needs services?" She said they do not I said they do its all over the website. She attempted to dismiss the special need advertising. I advised her I was an attorney. Dr. Saleh's response was immediate and retaliatory: Without any discussion, without any willingness to work with us, without any attempt to find a solution, Dr. Saleh stated she would refuse to see my daughter anymore. Let me be absolutely clear about what happened in that waiting area: 1.Dr. Saleh showed extreme impatience--pointing at an imaginary watch at a calm, cooperative child. Stating that she had other patients. 2. Dr. Saleh demanded I FORCE my daughter to the chair--not encourage her, not work with her, but physically carry her against her will. 3. I REFUSED to traumatize my child by forcing her. This is proper parenting and the foundation of all evidence-based special needs care. 4. The second I pointed out the contradiction between her advertising and her behavior--asking a simple, direct question--Dr. Saleh refused service. This is explicit retaliation. And told me to do "what's best for my Child" as if having her be traumatized by a dentist that only sees patients as money bags is best. A provider who advertises expertise she doesn't possess is not trustworthy. A provider who gets impatient with a calm child who needs time is not trustworthy. A provider who demands parents force their children is not trustworthy. A provider who retaliates the moment she's questioned is not trustworthy. I would not trust Dr. Saleh with my child's teeth. Her behavior demonstrates a fundamental misunderstanding of child development, special needs care, and professional ethics. Her competence and judgment in all dental matters are questionable. If you're considering Dr. Toothfairy, understand this: This practice advertises special needs services but does not provide them. The provider will pressure you to force your child. When you refuse to traumatize your child, the provider will refuse to treat you. The assistant may be kind, but the provider will demand you use force. I am filing federal complaints with the U.S. Department of Justice for potential violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Virginia Attorney General's Office for deceptive business practices and retaliation, and with the Virginia Board of Dentistry for unprofessional conduct, retaliation, and lack of competency in pediatric dentistry. Parents deserve providers they can trust. Dr. Saleh has lost my trust completely.

After my appointment, I discovered that the provider was out of network, something that was not clearly communicated to me beforehand. To make matters worse, my credit card on file was charged without my authorization for the amount in question. I reached out by email twice in an effort to resolve the issue professionally and received no response. What was especially disappointing is that Dr. Lara was personally aware of the situation and copied on the emails, yet my concerns still went unanswered. This was not simply an office communication issue, the provider herself was aware of my concerns and chose not to address them. I wasn't asking for anything unreasonable. I simply wanted someone to explain the charges and work toward a fair resolution. Instead, I was completely ignored. Mistakes can happen, but how a practice responds says a great deal. The lack of transparency, communication, and accountability left me feeling that patient concerns were not valued. Patients deserve to be informed about potential out-of-network costs before treatment, to have charges handled appropriately, and to receive a response when they raise legitimate billing concerns. Unfortunately, this experience has left me with little confidence in both the practice and Dr. Lara, and I cannot recommend them.

I understand that dentists are not perfect and that all treatments carry some degree of risk, but my experience with this office was one problem after another. The office, staff, and dentist were all very pleasant. However, two of my children were recommended treatments that other medical professionals later told us were unnecessary. One of my children underwent a root canal and crown on a back baby molar, which later became infected. When I initially asked why the tooth couldn't simply be extracted rather than the root canal & crown, I was told that it would be several years before the adult tooth erupted. After the infection developed, the dentist explained that the tooth would need to be extracted after all and that a spacer would then be placed. My son was seven years old at the time. Rather than proceed with that treatment, I sought a second opinion from his previous dentist, whom we had only left because we moved farther away. They told me the root canal and crown had been unnecessary and that the tooth should have been extracted from the beginning. My four-year-old daughter has a mild lip tie, and this dentist recommended laser surgery to correct it. After consulting her pediatrician, an ENT specialist at Children's, and a speech pathologist, I was told that the procedure was not recommended in her case and could potentially cause more harm than good. I'm glad I did not move forward with the treatment. My daughter does have a mild speech delay, but it was attributed to recurring ear infections. She has since had tubes placed in her ears. Based on my experience, I was left with the impression that this office may be recommending procedures that are not always necessary. After receiving multiple second opinions that contradicted the treatment recommendations we were given, I began to question whether financial considerations were influencing those recommendations.
