Currently, it is open from Tuesday through Saturday morning to afternoon. To avoid the longest lines, I recommend showing up in the middle of the week and in the early morning. For my most recent visit, I arrived well before the opening time, and a long line of customers had already formed on the sidewalk. At the opening time, a guard periodically called different groups of people into the building. I felt surprised that people had to wait outside for so long and that little seating was available inside. At least the sidewalk had a roof over it. Eventually an employee called me, looked at my application for a Real ID, gave me a number, and had me wait inside. Many minutes later another employee called me to review my birth certificate, Social Security card, and two pieces of evidence of Pennsylvania residency. Then another employee took my payment. Days later I received my Real ID in the mail.

The person at the desk was meant to route people to the right desk - but he was also processing paperwork - so I waited 15 minutes to just get a number. He was a very rude individual with attitude that nobody should tolerate. 2. 10 other staff at their desks waiting for a customer while the entry clerk is wasting time on one customer instead of routing us first. our tax dollars being wasted. Also Other states have an appointment system - PA how about entering the 20th century? 3. A staff member (I think she was the manager) walks by the front desk clerk and tells him "we love you and your are doing a great job putting up with these people" - meaning us, the tax payers. Who says that? What kind of people are you hiring? Clean up house in that office - it is an embarrassment! Doesn't anyone in Penndot inspect this? Most offices in other states have a screen that asks how satisfied are you with service today - nothing like that here. And this is what happens.

Looks like they are trying to keep things organized and fair, but everything moves so slowly. I came because parking is free, but I may go downtown next time. It's a lot of herding and waiting. I arrived early in hopes of getting served faster, but that didn't seem to work. Just when things appear to be moving, the staff take breaks and the available windows are cut in half. I think they can do better.

Is he just incompetent, or deliberately being difficult? Either he gets off on messing people around, or he's fishing for a bribe. Its best to just go to a different branch.

I have no idea how much "extra" we spent but we didn't have to wait hours, we didn't have to battle bureaucracy, and we left with a license plate in hand. Future renewals can be done remotely but when you need to do this for the first time I strongly suggest using Edgewood Notary Tag.

The office is tiny in comparison to New York DMV's. There were 3 people working behind the counter. They were moving like turtles and there was only literarily about 10 people before me and i sat and waited about 90 minutes. After that wait I went up to the counter only to be greeted by the rudest gentlman ever. I already had all my papers filled out and had passport and old drivers license. Then there were two issues and the guy was not nice about either of the two problems. here is the question hat is on the form Other than the one you are surrendering, are you in possession of any valid Driver's License/Photo ID from any other state or licensing jurisdiction? I took that to mean do you have any other photo id that you are not turning in other than drivers license. I have other picture id not related to drivers license. The guy was very rude and said you answered yes and you have to mark it as no??? i explained i understood it to mean any other sort of photo id. He said he did not care what I thought only what it meant to him. So I crossed out the yes and changed to a no. Second issue I have had the same Social Security card for 50 some odd years, when I was young my parents laminated it and at some point I took possession of it when I was older. The guy at the DMV said thiis is no good and can not be accepted can't you read the form says no laminated ss cards. To be honest i never looked at form but the website just says social security card does not say must be unlamented????. I then after almost 2 hours had to leave and then go to the Social Security office to get a new social security card. What a waste i would never go back to that DMV again the person was a real jerk and could of been nice about the issues instead of being a total jerk. Do not go to this location unless you want to be treated like crap. One star is to much to give this location unfortunately I have to give them something, But they deserve negative stars.

I…read moredutifully accumulated all the documentation required for that transfer, only to bungle the vision test. Fortunately, Shawn F. was the clerk who administered the exam. He could not alter the results of my test, of course, but he assured me that I could re-enter the process as soon as I produced valid results from an ophthalmologist. Four days later, he remembered me perfectly. He was gracious, kindly and supportive throughout. He is an exemplary interface between PennDot and the citizens of PA that it serves.
