When I moved to PA and needed to switch my license, I checked that I had everything I was supposed to. I want to a different site and they told me I was missing some items do they couldn't move forward with the new license. They couldn't (or wouldn't) tell me what I was missing and were really rude about it. So when I gathered everything (and then some just in case) I came to this location at the recommendation of a friend. It is located in a shopping plaza, so there is ample and close parking. I've been here twice now and while there were always a lot of people, they really seem to keep things moving. You are given a number when you enter and just because there may be a lot of people there it doesn't mean you are all waiting for the same thing (for example, a photo or new license vs people there for something like a drivers test). The employees did their job without too much complaint and were helpful when I had questions about certain things. If you have to go to a local DMV, this office is likely your best option.

There was one person ahead of me for the first line. I was waited on by a friendly gentleman, given a number and instructions where to wait. I waited maybe 15 minutes until my number was called then sat for my photo. I was asked if it was ok. It was (well, ya know, good enuff for a mug shot). I signed something before or after, I don't recall which. The gentleman taking the photo explained that because it was a real id renewal, it would come by mail in about 15 days and, in the meantime, he gave a receipt and my camera card back to use in the meantime. That was it. In and out in under half an hour. This location has always served me well, especially the time it takes and everyone who works here has always been pleasant.

Currently, it is open from Tuesday through Saturday morning to afternoon. To avoid the longest lines, I recommend showing up in the middle of the week and in the early morning. For my most recent visit, I arrived well before the opening time, and a long line of customers had already formed on the sidewalk. At the opening time, a guard periodically called different groups of people into the building. I felt surprised that people had to wait outside for so long and that little seating was available inside. At least the sidewalk had a roof over it. Eventually an employee called me, looked at my application for a Real ID, gave me a number, and had me wait inside. Many minutes later another employee called me to review my birth certificate, Social Security card, and two pieces of evidence of Pennsylvania residency. Then another employee took my payment. Days later I received my Real ID in the mail.

Looks like they are trying to keep things organized and fair, but everything moves so slowly. I came because parking is free, but I may go downtown next time. It's a lot of herding and waiting. I arrived early in hopes of getting served faster, but that didn't seem to work. Just when things appear to be moving, the staff take breaks and the available windows are cut in half. I think they can do better.

Not True! I showed the clerk the rules from the PennDOT website, but he just kept making up more stupid excuses, and lectured us about the dangers of motorcycles. Is he just incompetent, or deliberately being difficult? Either he gets off on messing people around, or he's fishing for a bribe. Its best to just go to a different branch.

i Just moved from NY and went to the closest DMV which was 708 Smithfield…read more I walked in and was greeted very friendly by two guards or ticket persons that asked why i was here and gave me a ticket. The office is tiny in comparison to New York DMV's. There were 3 people working behind the counter. They were moving like turtles and there was only literarily about 10 people before me and i sat and waited about 90 minutes. After that wait I went up to the counter only to be greeted by the rudest gentlman ever. I already had all my papers filled out and had passport and old drivers license. Then there were two issues and the guy was not nice about either of the two problems. here is the question hat is on the form Other than the one you are surrendering, are you in possession of any valid Driver's License/Photo ID from any other state or licensing jurisdiction? I took that to mean do you have any other photo id that you are not turning in other than drivers license. I have other picture id not related to drivers license. The guy was very rude and said you answered yes and you have to mark it as no??? i explained i understood it to mean any other sort of photo id. He said he did not care what I thought only what it meant to him. So I crossed out the yes and changed to a no. Second issue I have had the same Social Security card for 50 some odd years, when I was young my parents laminated it and at some point I took possession of it when I was older. The guy at the DMV said thiis is no good and can not be accepted can't you read the form says no laminated ss cards. To be honest i never looked at form but the website just says social security card does not say must be unlamented????. I then after almost 2 hours had to leave and then go to the Social Security office to get a new social security card. What a waste i would never go back to that DMV again the person was a real jerk and could of been nice about the issues instead of being a total jerk. Do not go to this location unless you want to be treated like crap. One star is to much to give this location unfortunately I have to give them something, But they deserve negative stars.

I…read moredutifully accumulated all the documentation required for that transfer, only to bungle the vision test. Fortunately, Shawn F. was the clerk who administered the exam. He could not alter the results of my test, of course, but he assured me that I could re-enter the process as soon as I produced valid results from an ophthalmologist. Four days later, he remembered me perfectly. He was gracious, kindly and supportive throughout. He is an exemplary interface between PennDot and the citizens of PA that it serves.
