California's DMV sucks. The workers are just doing their jobs so this isn't targeted towards them, but these fees are ridiculous and fraudulent. I went to take out my second vehicle from no op and they wanted to charge me the full $341 registration fee that is only good from September 1st, 2026 to February 28th, 2027???? How is it not prorated???? The high DMV fees are already high enough but to try and charge me full price for half a year is f***ing ridiculous. Sick of this state and DMV getting away with these fraudulent and absurd charges. 1: fees are too high already, 2: no prorated charge if you want to renew your registration later in the year because you don't drive the vehicle or whatever the case may be??? Might as well drive without a new tag in protest because this is Bull! read more

I had positive experience until I went to window 8 for an eye exam. She notice my present license ha no restrictions, and I saidI would take the test without my new glasses and if I didn't pass, I would retake it with them. She did not protest. She failed me and when I asked to take the test again with my relaatively new (11/25) Rx sunglasses in my possession, and she said she couldn't do that. I was reteste by another optomitrist and she changed the RRx sightly and said advised me to wear them when night driving, which I was prepared to do the first time. She seemd very annoyed by my hearing loss, but using the goggles device, I could not read her lips. Her exasperation was palpable when I read the wrong lines perfectly . And I am tempted to take a witness with me tomorrow when I return with my eye test (dr. said my eyes were much younger than my chronological age led her to suspect) because the only time the examinier didn't scowl was when she failed me. read more

Hello, April Here. I Love this DMV! Anthony and another younger looking older gal at very right window helped me out when I arrived 12 minutes till closing and she was very straight to point and mentioned I had a couple minutes to fill out a transfer paper and I did, and then went to Anthonys Window and he killed it! Explained everything clearly, even spoke Blonde and punched paperwork through like a boss.Thank you both for kicking asz! If Mrs Cox still works there, Thank you for working so hard over the years ive been coming to DMV in 29. God Bless all of you.. read more

Great service when I came here, but according to Apple Maps they're open 5 days a week. Came here on Friday and turns out it's only Tuesdays and Thursdays. They really need to get that fixed. read more

Sloth like in their sense of purpose. Assume you don't know what you're talking about and waste your time by simply not having any ability to apply logic. Seems like they employ the otherwise unemployable. read more

Very quick easy and efficient. Staff is confident and competent. Went for my behind the wheel and it was easy and fast. In and out in 20 minutes read more

I spent time figuring out how to upgrade my license to real ID INCLUDING UPLOADING ALL REQUIRED DOCUMENTS. It still required three DMV visits and an hour long wait in spite of having an appointment. After dealing with two condescending, rude employees I was not happy. I do not recommend bothering with online services if you don't have to. Same old rude dmv as always. read more

Everyone at this office is very friendly and quick. The wait is never long if there even is one at all. But BEWARE of behind the wheel "Dori"! She is mean, rude, snappy, and literally adds so much unnecessary tension and anxiety to a behind the wheel that already is nerve wracking for the new drivers. Absolutely unnecessary and unkind! Everyone else though has been wonderful....especially loved chatting with the very kind guard. Plenty of appointment times available immediately read more

Had an appointment their computers where down came the next day at the same time. They did not honor the appointment, so weird. Drove to Palm Springs they got us in and out and apologized for our experience at this location. Any reason to go to Palm Springs I'll take it but this was a pretty bad way to treat a kid who studied for their driving test. It's a big deal to teens but to us "older" drivers it's just a trip to the DMV. So I expected them to drop the ball, I looked like a hero. Best advice was "see now you can get a job and use AAA, no more DMV." read more

For a DMV Office this was fairly quick and painless. The one downside was I came in right before they closed and found out they don't take credit cards. I had recently lost my debit card so left without getting my car registered. This was not their fault. When I got to my car I found a checkbook in the glove box. Remember those? They are made out of paper and you write on them. I dnt back but the door was locked. I was too late. But wait, the guard let me in. The lady saw me at the door and said she would take care of me. Went back in and since she had started the paper work on my first trio on. I was in and out in less than a minute. Great customer service and DMV normally don't go together but in this car it did. Thank you DMV. (Jerry Brown, you struck. My registration went UP $48 this year. The this year is gone UP. It's supposed to go down. Hope that train works out for you you idiot). read more

Service was great not to much of wait. Was pleased with my visit today. The office was clean and there is hand sanitizer at every window.

Get one thing straight. Make an appointment here for a professional and patient experience. Even the security guard was extra helpful in finding out what I needed assistance with (i.e forms); which made it even smoother for the DMV official to process my information. If you don't make an appointment.... Well, like any other DMV, you wait in line. And like any other DMV, that's pretty dull and stressful. And you will be so upset = 1 star. I was impressed. I was in and out in less than half-an-hour. Arrive early to appointment because they may have a few forms for you to fill out before (or not). read more

Another trip to the DMV Office in Twentynine Palms. They do it again. Another . Everyone is professional, helpful and nice. I was in and out in 25 minutes I've read about people being unhappy with The California DMV, but I am in a number of different DMV offices and everyone has been great. read more

One computer for testing.....ridiculous! This is my 2nd time here and it looks like I'm not going to make it again....smh

Never thought I'd compliment the DMV but was very impressed with the 29 Palms DMV - how smooth they operate with Covid restrictions and courteous staff. Showed up an hour early and was about 15th in line outside, under shaded awning. Staff were outside taking temperatures, answering questions and having us fill out forms ahead of time. read more

These are the nicest people and the most professional I have ever encountered in a DMV office. I have lived in three states and this, though a bit of a wait, is easy. They walk down the line outside to make sure you have all your paperwork , are very helpful, and even enjoyable to just shoot the breeze with. I would recommend this DMV to all. read more

This office has some of the nicest people working at it. Most of the time I dread going to the DMV so I can feel dumb by who ever is the clerk. Not at this location, clerks are very helpful and mostly very friendly. Lines are good for a DMV. Get you in and out quickly read more

Not bad. They have to deal with COVID. I had a 2-hour wait for my driver's license, and a more than 1-hour wait to register a car I bought. The fact that you can get these things done at all is perhaps a miracle. read more

anthony is incredible!!! i have never in my 55 year life been to a dmv where some was so positive, courteous, super knowledgeable, & helpful. let me say that again..... i've been to the dmv about 200 times in my life and never, in all my years, have i met anyone like anthony!!! he's a dmv unicorn folks, so consider yourselves lucky if you get to do your business there! he makes it painless!!!! props to anthony!!! he. is. the. man. read more

This place is a complete joke. Waited over 45 minutes while two employees helped a grand total of five people. I also noticed two employees stood around for the entire time we were there just talking to each other. This was shortly after they opened, so I know they were not on break. Your tax dollars at work. Those two would be fired in any private sector job, but apparently laziness is encouraged at the DMV. read more

Compare to DMV in Palm Desert, people here are more friendly and helpful. They always smile and guiding you friendly. You don't have to wait hours like the one in PD. read more

This was a real treat. And i'm not joking. Everyone here was super nice, pleasant and even shared a few jokes with me. Es lo mejor DMV in California. Thanks everyone! I'll be back to register my car and RV next :) read more

me n my girl came here for a written driving test and didnt plan on leaving until we finished what we set out to accomplish. I wish we had went earlier or at least made an appointment. we ended up waiting in line for about 3 hours and didnt even leave with a license and or permit. theres barely any seats for the amount of people who have to utilize this facility. there isnt a dmv within a 45 miles in any direction so that alone says how busy it can get. get there early and set appointments where permitted. bring a friend and a bottle of water and hang in there. this place sucks read more

FOR SURE MAKE AN APPOINTMENT. This is in 29 Palms...seriously the only reason its there is for the military base. Definitely can't expect a full force staff. I waited like 20 minutes with an appointment which was fine. There were literally no seats. I'm sure if I was handicapped someone would've given up the seat. It didn't get the same "I'm gonna get stabbed by a vato" vibe here as Fontana, Rosemead, or West Covina DMV's. Staff was nice, its a small town vibe so it definitely moves slower. Just gotta accept that going in or just go to the oven AKA Palm Springs. read more

Yikes what a nightmare. They treat you like your prisoners walking a line. Oh and if you don't have an appointment plan on being here 2-3 hours. They refuse to smile and absolutely horrible customer service skills. They know we are forced to be there and take advantage of that. Go to palm springs read more

Security Guard puts his friends in front of the line. Only one lady working. Line is very slow. The other workers just sitting around acting like they are working. read more

There are 4 supervisors just sorting papers only one lady doing both the drivers licenses and vehicle registration. The regular line did not move for an hour to serve anyone. Only people who made an appointment. Talking to others there the schedule wait for an appointment is two months to get in. Yes, the security guard is a happy go lucky guy and very cheerful. But, I would NEVER go in there again, come hell or high water. read more

Very very slow. I have been coming here off and on since 2007 and it's unbelievable that there has been no change. The doors open at 8 and you have people standing in line with none of the clerk's even sitting at their desks yet. People show up and hour to 90 mins prior to opening. The least the staff could do is be ready to receive customers when the doors open. read more

If you're looking for irritation, frustration and employees who have crap attitudes and poor people skills, this place will not disappoint. The security guard is most most helpful, personable a cheerful person. He truly does not deserve to work at that miserable hell, that is the 29 Palms DMV. The other employees seem to compete to live up to the expectations of a terrible experience and are excellent at making you wish California had better public transportation options just so you never have to see a DMV office again. read more

Took my daughter here for her drivers license behind the wheel test. She was totally stressing about it but the front desk lady and Ryan the actual driving evaluator both gave her encouraging words to help her thru the process. She passed her test and we were out of there in less than an hour total. Smallest DMV office I have ever seen but definitely the best one I've been to! read more

Security guard is fast and helpful. Everyone else moves like the floor behind the counter is covered in molasses. Really wish they would have a bigger staff. Wait times can be 1-2 hours (or longer). Edit: Finally got to the counter and the lady that helped me was really nice. Seems like they're just way under-staffed here. read more

Most pleasant DMV office I have ever visited! The guard was extremely friendly and helpful. Everyone we encountered there were very friendly. Very good experience! read more

This establishment is being run and secured by very nice organized staff. The line moves quickly and it appears the staff like their jobs. I found their security guard the most helpful. read more

I typically dread the DMV but lately have had the best experiences ever at my local DMV. My first experience was transferring/registering a vehicle and then second was getting a real DL. Both experiences were under 1 hr, no appointments for either and the customer service was out of this world. Perhaps a change in pace or what appears to be an entire new staff was needed. Let me just say that this Staff is phenomenal, from Supervisor down. read more

Coming from a health professional, this place is a lawsuit waiting to be filled. I talked to Quinn the security lady about the potential of letting about 10 people stand outside in 110 degree weather could give a person heat stroke and the DMV would be reliable 100%. I informed everybody in line that if in fact somebody pass out due to heat to go ahead and get a lawyer ready. read more

Absolutely garbage service. Been in here on multiple occasions and there has only been 2 people working every time. Complete waste of people's time and energy. read more

best dmv i've ever been to. good service & nice employees. that's hard to come by. Anthony helped me immediately & made my life easier. no appointment needed, just walked in. read more

So it was my first time here. I wasn't able to make an appointment so naturally I was dreading going here especially in this awful heat. Got there around 7:45am they open at 8am and there were already about 15 people in line. The security guy I think his name was Randall? Anyway he was incredibly helpful. Went up and down the line with a smile asking what everyone was there for and even went back inside to get them clip boards with the proper paper work. Also made sure those that needed to be in a cooler environment or those who could not stand long got a seat inside the building with AC. He chatted it up with people and kept us all updated on the wait time. Best security guard ever. The woman inside with long curly hair was also pretty great super helpful and very kind. I was there for about 2 hours but it wasn't awful like many other DMV experience. read more

Disorganized, lines out the door, nobody working the front desks. I've been waiting for 2.5 hours because there is one woman working and they take hour long lunches. The only plus to this place is the friendly security guard. read more

The line at DMV is always super long. I decided to make an appointment and I was in and out. The security guard is so nice and helpful. He's a great asset!! read more
