Giving this place 2 stars since basically all DMVs are disorganized and agonizing and this place is no worse or better. I came here to renew my license and it took about 2.5hrs with plenty of obstacles throughout the process.
First of all, in line, one of the workers asked what documents I had for renewing my DL. I had a copy of my birth certificate and old license. She said that I needed the original birth certificate or else my new license will say "federal limits apply". I asked her what that means and she gets all huffy and says, "you didn't hear me explain to the person right in front of you?" Uhm no, because you were talking to the person in front of me. Not me. Duh. No need to roll your eyes or get impatient. Yeah, you're tired and it's hot outside, but don't expect people to be eavesdropping out of your convenience, lady.
She gave me a paper that explained the whole "federal limits" thing in the end. I mean...she could've done that in the first place instead of being rude lmao.
ANYWAYS, after that whole thing, I finally get inside the actual DMV building and wait some more, fill out an application, wait some more, then finally get to a window to get this license thing done. I'm in the middle of the process with the DMV worker when she asks me if I wear glasses or contacts. I tell her I do wear glasses, but I don't have them with me, they're in the car. She straight up tells me that I can't do the vision test so I can't get my license renewed. I ask her if I could just grab my glasses in the car right outside. She says no because they can't let me in since the DMV is technically closed at the time (it was after 5pm). Fair enough, but...this whole time my friend is there with me and she didn't think to say that my friend could grab the glasses for me while I stay inside. The lady says, "it's as if I wasn't even at the DMV that day just because I didn't have my glasses." :) awesome :). So after some debating I say I'll come back another day.
But the story doesn't end. My friend and I ask the security guard if my friend can just grab my glasses and hand it to me at the door and she says yes (uhm, thank you, some human decency and common sense??). So I get my glasses and head back to the window and wait for the other customer to be done. The lady sees me and I explain what happened and she says "oh, but you can't do it because you said you'd come back another day :(". Really b****? That's what's stopping you? I'm in utter disbelief at the lack of logic in her argument. I don't even know what to say to her for a moment. Then, I argue back and forth a bit about why we can't just start the process again. I say, "well, I didn't know my friend could just grab my glasses for me." Without a word to me after that, she starts working on her computer and then starts my renewal process again....yeah weird. Like what was stopping her before? Honestly, it just seemed like she just didn't want to complete the process for me. It's as if the DMV has a quota for how many people they need to severely disappoint and she just hadn't met hers for the day.
Whatever. The process after that was fairly quick and I was out of there in less than 30 minutes. I would not recommend going to the DMV without an appointment. And, crucial advice for any unfortunate souls who have to make a journey to the hell on earth that is the DMV: bring every document imaginable. I'm talking about your real birth certificate, social security card, proof of residence, insurance cards, immunization records, blood test, dental records, anything (jk, the first three should be fine). OH AND DON'T FORGET YOUR F--ING GLASSES!! Please do your research online on what documents you need to bring though. No one wants to make a trip there more than once. read more
