First and foremost CA DMV is a joke. Because I had 1 accident that wasn't my fault and because I asked for a new Driver's license a couple years ago, I had to retake a driving test. 2nd. I understand why people get upset at DMV staff members. In this facility, I saw staff members who have worked here for yearssssss constantly impede on other staff members conversation while the 1st worker has a client in front of them. Slowing the process. I staff member which I seen working there for 15 + years is notorious for the above. I had him and he told me to hold on while he impeded in a conversation. I told him "I'm not trying to be rude brother but its a simple question she can answer. I don't want to stay here lo ger than I should." He understood and got me put of there. I would recommend this office if you have an appointment; otherwise, be prepared to wait for one to three hours, as this location is huge and, as a result, MANY people visit this branch. I was forced to visit the DMV because I will be flying to Florida next week, and, silly me, I didn't realize a Real ID is required to fly anywhere. I have not flown in over thirty years Back to the DMV. As I entered the location, an older but very helpful security guard assisted me in checking in using my cell phone. Best DMV in LA County! Compared to the rest, by far, the Friendliest and most Helpful staff at any DMV. Staff was early and helping customers before they even opened, also, very polite and helpful security as well. Everyone behind the counters had a smile and were very polite and friendly with all customers, all staff showed that they loved their jobs and truly cared about all the customers. Security Sandoval was on point, he was very polite, helpful, and friendly. Security Sandoval greeted everyone with a smile and assisted them with any questions they had, never seen a security guard work as hard as Sandoval. My wife went in for a drivers test, she was assisted by Examiner Mike, another awesome employee of the Montebello DMV. Examiner Mike was very polite and professional (nothing compared to the rude examiners at Bell Gardens). Wife was extremely nervous and Mike made her feel welcomed and calmed her down by addressing her nervousness and explaining to her that the test was as if she was driving with any other person and there was nothing to be nervous about. Examiner Mike was very helpful and went over all the results at the end. For beginning to end, wife said he was amazing. Thank you Mike!!! DMV was also clean and everything was in order. read more

Wow!!! I'm so amazed by the highest class customer service provided at the Montebello DMV Office!! I took my dad to renew his drivers license. I feel bad since I didn't get the Motor Vehicle Representative's name. But she was at Window 19, on May 14, 2026 at 10:50AM with ticket number F076. I thought I was at a high end boutique store about to spend thousands not a government office trying to renew my drivers license. Your representative was the most kind and caring human being. My dad's a senior and a little slower to hear and process things. She took her time to let my father adjust to all the data he was processing. She asked about my Oura Ring and we talked about pets specifically cats and how her 5 year old son wanted one. This interaction was totally not expected as she was to help process some paperwork. My dad went in with a little anxiety worried about the whole process of renewal and he left with a big confident smile on his face because he was cared for as a human being not just another number. Again I feel bad for not getting her name hopefully you can lookup and give credit to her as what a fantastic job she is doing for the community. She deserves a raise and a promotion. She should be a trainer to train all the new representative out of the gate. She knew how to turn a stressful anxious person into a calm, very relaxed renewal experience. If I can book her for future appointments I'd come back to her and recommend all my friends and family to request she take care of all of my DMV needs. Parking was also easy as well but even if it wasn't. Her customer service skills and fast processing speed is well worth to coke visit her again. She was friendly and caring. Came to renew Drivers License since I needed a Real ID now. Our visit was quick and efficient. We were in and out in only 17 minutes, and this is with checking-in at one window, reviewing documents at a second window, taking a picture at a third window, and finalizing everything at a fourth window, all in 17 minutes. So, make an appointment online, fill out the forms online, and you will have a stress-free visit. I have to give a shout out to the security guard. Everyone who comes has probably not been there in years and you don't know where to go or what line to stand in. This bigger white lady with long curly light hair and square glasses looked to be in her late 30s was the one helping us and was extremely rude. I had to renew my drivers license and I could not do it online as I needed to take the vision test and fingerprints. I submitted photos of my passport along with two documents showcasing my proof of address. Upon arriving to window 22 the man asked me again for a physical copy of my passport and two documents showcasing my address. Bruh, what? What was the point of me uploading everything online? Made absolutely no sense! So if you're renewing your license be sure to bring all documents with you in hand or they will refuse to issue you a license despite uploading the documents online. Window 22 worker--the slowest mofo I have ever encountered! He took his sweet time photocopying my documents and passport. I would compare him to a sloth! He is a sloth. I am a very impatient, efficient, want things and get things done yesterday kind of woman. So this dude made me want to rip my hair out! I told him I received a letter saying I needed to take a vision test, get fingerprinted, etc. The mofo said, "Do you have that letterrrrrrrr?" Bruh, why would I make that up? I paid cash and he must have counted my change a zillion times. Like, bruh, what are you doing?????????!!!!! Is it really that hard to subtract 45 from 100? He wasn't rude, just super slow and I hate slow people! I swear I stood at his window for like a half an hour and when he was finally done, he sent me to another line to take my photograph. The woman who took the photograph was very efficient, nice, and knew exactly what she was doing. She was lovely! There is ample amount of parking! I parked very far because my car is brand new and I didn't want anyone around it, so that's a plus. Wait time as evidenced in the photograph below was nearly an hour without an appointment. I did my application and appointment online but when I arrived the clerk could not find it. They should have told me to generate one amusing the computers there at testing but it took another stand in line before I was told I needed a confirmation number. I also waited at the kiosk by mistake but later the guard told me to go to the computers. The blue uniform guards were extremely helpful. Once I completed the form and got a confirm number I was on the right path to payment, vision test and photo. My stay took 2+ hours when it could be done in one if I understood the service reps better. read more

Came here after bad experiences from El Monte DMV for the driving test of my husband and Hanse ( if I heard it right, asian woman) at number 7 was such a nice lady. I haven't had any good experience at DMV, pretty much expected obnoxious and rude attitude but Hanse was kind, helpful, and patient to explain all the procedures. My husband's instructor for the test was Danny-he was clear with instructions and very friendly. My husband appreciated the fact that he kindly reviewed some of the mistakes my husband made during the driving test. I had an appointment here to renew my REAL ID. I was actually too early, so I sat in the car for about 45min. I waited for my number maybe 20 min. I was excited to get to the booth when I got called. I freakin' regret catching the guys name that apparently didn't help at all. (Rolling eyes). He told me I had to have 2 forms of proof of address. I told him honestly it didn't tell me that online. I trusted the online & didn't bring anything. Basically, he sent me home not even looking at my information correctly. I didn't realize this till I got home. In the meantime I cried all the way. Another reason this was a big deal, other than supposed to be getting a new REAL ID, was because we planned out our travels coming back from LA back to the Bay Area. So to be told misinformation caused issues. A day later, we called another DMV, and I explained the guy at Monetebello refused me because I didn't show them proof of ID. They collected the money and failed to let the other two departments know. I had to spend two days on the the phone with Sacramento and clear and show proof myself and then come back to the DMV and have them process my license and wait another 2 to 3 weeks for my license. If they actually did it right this time then I will be getting my license. If not, I will have to chase it all done and send copies to wherever myself again. This was my first time coming since they made renovations to their office. The updated floor plan is open and accessible with wide walkways and plenty of seating. The directions to each station are clear and visible. And the staff was courteous and efficient. Arrived around 8:20 and the security helped me check in online and got called right away . The lady helping me at the window (5) was nice and what was helpful was I filled my application online before hand. The lady at the window for driving test (6) was also very helpful and nice! Wished I got their names. Went to take my picture and the lady taking my picture was also kind. Felt bad since she was the only one there and seemed stressed. Left at 8:50! The individuals at windows 2 and 23 were extremely helpful. I pre-registered and thought I would just walk in and immediately be served. But with some 300 other customers and long lines, my 2:00 pm appt to upgrade my DL to a Real ID took an hour. The staff were very calm, sympathetic, and very nice. I told the lady in window 23 that I felt like crying and she smiled and said she'd join me. Then we laughed together and it made my stress level really go down. The lady in window 2 processed my information and called me over to her ("Come on Down" like in The Price is Right) when I was starting to stand in line again. Numerous sarcastic remarks were made.I am unaware of her name, but she is a short Hispanic woman who wears glasses and has short gray hair. I truly cannot comprehend her behavior. Every person before and after me was pleasant to her, yet she seemed annoyed by everything and still found time to be rude. I know for a fact that the DMV does not train their employees in that manner.The reason I mention this is that everyone else who assisted me after her was courteous and extremely helpful .It felt as if her rudeness and disrespect were intended to expedite the line. I am unsure if she is dealing with personal issues or something else, but her attitude made me feel very uncomfortable and unwelcome. That brief 30 second interaction felt like it lasted forever.
