NOT RECOMMENDED. Ruined our wedding reception (well almost, we still had fun with our family and friends!). Would give her zero stars if I only could.
We hired DJ Stacy for our wedding reception in NYC, which took place in a SoHo penthouse overlooking Manhattan's skyline in June 2010. She bills herself as a "celebrity DJ" (she claims to have "opened" for the Blackeyed Peas, whatever that means) and does weddings and corporate events, as well. Though she seemed like a real sweetheart leading up to our event, her involvement turned out to be a disaster. Let me quantify (I saved the best for last, so read them all):
1) we gave her an extensive list of songs that we wanted played-- she was open to it so we probably spent 8-10 hours preparing this-- she played maybe 10% of them(probably less than that);
2) several times, the songs she was playing skipped in the middle, including one that skipped and started re-playing approximately 10 times before she realized it-- I think the only reason it eventually stopped is because we(the bride and groom) interrupted it by making our grand entrance;
3) the volume was so loud it made guests uncomfortable-- despite requests (including one by me- the groom) to turn the volume down some... I also requested she switch the music she was playing (which was horrific) to some old school hip hop that we had requested in advance on our song list. Yet, I never once heard that genre (old school hip hop) played during the reception.
4) our wedding was an all-ages family affair- with young children to grandparents in their 70s. In advance of the event, we told DJ Stacy to play only "clean" versions of any songs she would play that had vulgarities and she assured us she would-- however, with my 8 year old niece on the dance floor with my bride, we were shocked to hear one song that repeated, over and over again, the n-word, as well as a song called "put it in your mouth"-- we had obviously not requested either song. We were horrified.
5) As my bride and I were busy visiting with guests, we asked one of our wedding guests-- the husband of our "reader" at the ceremony-- to ask DJ Stacy to play a song that was on our list of requests. She slapped him!!! This was apparently her "flirting" with him but he said it was hard enough that it stung his face. Not only that, but she did it twice!!! Are you kidding me???
6) We contracted with DJ Stacy to play until midnight. By eleven o'clock- an hour early, she was packing up her stuff and no music was on. Come to find out, she had VOMITED ON THE DANCE FLOOR and apparently (rightfully) believed it was time to call it a night. She had been drinking from one of our caterer's bars all night. I guess it did not matter anyway because her music was so loud and bad that all the wedding guests who were still at the reception (at that point) had vacated the dance floor and were hanging outside on the balcony overlooking the Manhattan skyline to get away from the musical atrocities taking place inside.
7) She lost the check I gave her at the reception. Sweet redemption. It gave us the ability to "renegotiate" her fee. She had the nerve to call me frantically at 7am in the morning after the reception (yes, while my bride and I were still in bed in our honeymoon suite at The Plaza) simply to let me know she had inexplicably lost the check (I'm guessing it wound up in the pile of her vomit). When I finally cooled down enough to call her back a couple days later, she essentially denied everything. She made no excuse for drinking on the job, claimed it was "impossible" for me to have heard music skipping(though I was stone sober at the time, by the way), had no answer for the vulgar music she played or the guest that she slapped, and had the gall to claim that "maybe" she had gotten sick because "someone slipped something" in her drink at the reception!!!
Need I say more? Only this: all of our friends said we should not have paid her anything. In a moment of weakness, I agreed to pay her 1/3 of her fee. I never plan to see this crazy idiot again and feel duty-bound to put the word out about her by posting this review. read more
