TL;DR: Jarrett was an absolute pro from start to finish, had top-notch equipment and the perfect music to get - and keep - the party going, and saved our ceremony from disaster with his quick thinking. I would highly recommend DJ Jay One for ANY event, but especially an event at which you want to worry less and have your guests, friends and loved ones have an incredible experience to take home with them!
My husband and I have nothing but the best things to say about DJ Jay One (Jarrett Quint). If we could, we would give him a million Yelp stars for saving the day - and some of the most important moments of our lives. His talent as a DJ (he actually DJs! Reads the crowd and mixes songs, and doesn't just push buttons on an iPod), his professionalism, and his thoughtful preparation were all top-notch. But, he went over and above to literally save our ceremony from certain disaster with his quick thinking and willingness to adapt. Music was a hugely important component to our ceremony as each song had special meaning for guests who were present, and our loved ones who were watching from "above."
Our ceremony was at "The Backyard at Riverwalk," a small amphitheater in Edwards, CO, which is equipped with plug-ins next to the stage. Jarrett and I visited the site pre-wedding to make sure everything was working. The property manager assured us there would be no issue with the power source for Jarrett's equipment - a sound mixer, computer, cordless microphone with stand, and speakers. Jarrett accommodated our timeline and set up his equipment and did sound tests at our restaurant reception site earlier in the day, and then hauled everything to the ceremony site.
My husband and I were busy fixing other last-minute disasters (I fell down a flight of stairs during pre-wedding pics while getting off a chairlift). We did not expect and had no time to deal with the fact that there was NO POWER at the ceremony site. Jarrett was quick to try to contact the site engineers, but it was Sunday and there were none on duty. He called me to tell me about the situation, but not to worry and that he would figure it out. I still don't know how he pulled it off, but I do know that his ability to stay calm and adapt to the situation were key. I called five minutes later and heard those magic words "Ignore the last call. I figured it out. Everything is going to be perfect."
Well I did, and he did, and it WAS! It was perfect.
We were right on time, the music was clear and beautiful, the microphone was at a perfect level, and no one had even the slightest inkling that there were any issues. And luckily I had some wonderful aunts and cousins to make my dress look like new again. It truly went from being a possible nightmare situation in 90 degree heat to the most wonderful moment in our lives.
Okay, on to his skills as a DJ: Jarrett and I had several meetings before our wedding; he was always very responsive via email regarding additions and changes to our song list. He created the most wonderful playlist for our cocktail hour and dinner, which moved through many decades of classic songs and different music genres in a natural and organic way. He moved all of his equipment from the ceremony site to the restaurant and the mic was, again, at a perfect volume - and the fact that it was cordless was essential for my 92-year-old grandma to say Grace before dinner.
When the real party started, I had several comments from people of ALL generations that the music was so much fun and that he was playing the perfect songs to get everyone - and keep everyone! - on the dance floor. I gave Jarrett lots of input ahead of time: specific songs and genres that we wanted/hoped to hear and songs that my husband and I didn't want included, and he did an incredible job fitting nearly every request I had into our specific time. And he worked off of my suggestions to build a catalog of songs that he could pick from depending on the mood of the crowd.
His lighting was fantastic. And near the end of the dance party, to the delight of everyone at the wedding - his water-based fog machine went into effect! My grandma was dancing in her wheelchair with fog and laser lights everywhere! We had to shut down the outside dancing at 10:30, and Jarrett moved his equipment (yet AGAIN) to the upstairs bar area for an "after-party" with music that was a little dirtier for the younger crowd, but still fun for the older folks. I had multiple comments during and after our wedding that the music was incredible/their favorite part/perfect/and so much fun! read more
