We came here 6 years ago on the way west. It's a classic old style dinner, so an experience in…read moreitself. But the food is just fine. First city in Montana as you come east from the Dakotas. I had a really good bowl of chili that was exactly what I wanted and needed. Among other great dishes. They were understaffed this evening but those present stepped up their game and did a fine job.

We stopped in around noon on a Wednesday for lunch. The restaurant was completely empty when we…read morearrived. We were told the fryers were down, which wasn't a problem since we planned to order breakfast items anyway. Our server was friendly, but service felt disorganized from the start. She forgot to bring my coffee, and I had to ask for it while she was sitting at the desk computer. We also noticed our food was taking an unusually long time to arrive, despite us being the only customers in the restaurant. Eventually, we learned they had to turn on and heat up the flat-top grill after we placed our order. At lunchtime on a Wednesday, that was surprising. Had we known the grill wasn't already operating, we probably would have chosen somewhere else. We're traveling and were hoping for a quick meal, but it took nearly an hour from start to finish, with over 30 minutes passing before our food arrived. Unfortunately, the food itself was even more disappointing than the wait. I ordered a ham and cheese omelet but was served a bacon and cheese omelet instead, which is a pretty significant difference. The pancake was dense, dry, and almost flavorless -- it honestly tasted like it was made from little more than flour and water. The French toast was acceptable but nothing memorable. Overall, we took a few bites from everything but barely touched our food.  We've been traveling for a month and eating at restaurants all over the country, and this was easily the most disappointing meal we've had on the road. The staff was pleasant, but between the long wait, incorrect order, and poor food quality, we won't be returning next time we pass through.

Hubby got the biscuit barge with sausage and eggs and gravy. He said it was great. He said the sausage was very good. I ordered the chicken fried steak with hash-browns and eggs and toast. It was a lot of food. The chicken fried steak was very good. No complaints. The white gravy was very good and flavorful. Just ordered water for drinks but the coffee smelled great and the wait staff walked around with the coffee pot to refill cups. They had specials posted on the board behind the counter which sounded really good. Will have to go back. It appeared like a lot of locals were eating there. Parking was not bad, street parking in front of the building. Moderately priced. Menu was very large too!! Lots of options. Will return soon.

I always get the biscuits and gravy and add something else like eggs and hash browns. I noticed today they have the Biscuit Barge which includes biscuits and gravy, hash browns, a sausage patty and two scrambled eggs and was perfect! The gravy is creamy and savory and the hash browns just the right amount of crisp. Combined with two scrambled eggs and fresh biscuits and you got yourself a meal. The ambiance is what you would expect from a small town diner, including warm hospitality and a slew of regulars filling the room with tales of the simple life, clanging dishes, and laughter. Final comments include the excellent service received. Three servers worked the room, like they were working, a cattle drive or something, each covering the other, anticipating the need for coffee refresh, and while doing this clearly having a good time. Highly recommend Sonny's and look forward to coming back, and perhaps branching off of my standard biscuits and gravy and venturing into one of the delicious looking omelettes or one of the Mexican breakfast offerings.

I've traveled extensively. Asked for Honey Mustard with my steak fingers, seeing as they didn't have bbq. Was charged 50 cents for a tablespoon of dressing. Asked for a metal fork with my food. Was reluctantly given one, was told I was "lucky" they had them. It was flimsy and given to me in a rude manner. Upon asking for my bill was told I had to pay at the counter. Which is fine. But no one told me I had to do that. Then I get up there, there is a sign that their software doesn't print out a receipt with a line for a tip. I had to tell them in advance what I wanted to tip. And no itemized receipt possible. I tipped 20%. I always do. I will in the future patronize the other diners in town. If I have my way, I'll never cross the threshold of Airport Inn again. The other diners in town a) have better food; b) for better prices; c) don't charge extra for a tablespoon of sauce; d) have actual lemons upon request for water, not squeeze lemon (ick); e) bring the bill to the table; f) offer bbq sauce with fries; g) have actual silverware from the start; h) more polite staff. I get that the restaurant is a local institution but I found it unfriendly, nearly hostile, oh and they don't have a website. And an ancient register system. Get into the 21st century please.

Okay food, but the portions are pretty small. Loved the decor of the place and the service was…read morefriendly!
