If you need a great comfort meal with some 50's flare, this is the spot. Staff was very friendly and attentive. Food was out quick as well. Inside is nice with jukeboxes at each table. I got the meatloaf sandwich and it was great. Meatloaf on top of garlic Texas toast topped with gravy, mushrooms and onion straws. Choice of potato side, I got the chips. Meatloaf was good and portion was large. Chips were crispy and salty, yum. Others at table got the whole hog skillet, meatloaf dinner and fish and chips. Skillet was great. Meatloaf dinner was also great with fresh veggies, mashed potatoes and garlic bread. Fish and chips was OK. Highly recommend giving this place a try.

Stopped in while on vacation. Best breakfast hands down! Dixie stack was perfection on a plate! Sweet, attentive waitress. Cute little spot that's stuck in the 50's

This is a fun venue - you can always count on sassy service and great coffee! Lots of good food and a big menu. I tried a skillet and the Hubbs had the hamburger and eggs. We also tried the onion straws. Everything was cooked perfectly and we were lucky there was no wait on a Sunday morning. Overall a great choice!

This diner is super fun. You can choose your own music and sit in comfortable 50s like booths. The food is diner style and tasty. They have back room to reserve for events. Fun place to eat.

This is an Idaho falls landmark we come here at least one or twice a month. I usually get the turkey club and it's so big I can't finish it and take home some for a snack later. The drinks are good and the dessert are pretty good as well

    Captain Krunch French Toast! Excellent

Do yourself a favor and go to Abracadabra next door and get their playful delicious takes on French toast. Dixie's made my food from dehydrated box poured hot water on it then microwaved it until it tasted rancid. The owner proceeded to tell me I was wrong not to like it. As a professional chef I think I'll go with my taste buds over his ego.

A classic Ruben sandwich with fries. It is amazing!

It would be hard for me to give this place too many compliments because they ROCK! Their food is amazing, good size portions, the food comes out hot as it should except for most salads...grin. I love the music playing in the background. The servers are fantastic! Their Ruben sandwich is the best in the city in my opinion and I've tried a few in Idaho Falls area.

This is my go to anytime I am in IDA! The food is amazing and reasonably priced. I have never had a bad milkshake here. The staff are very friendly every time I go. The old style diner is a fun atmosphere with $.25 table-top jukeboxes.

If it's still open, where is it? I looked for the address & can't find it.

Near the batteries and bulbs. Big sign, big metal retro building. If you drive by you can't miss it.

Is this place still in business?

Yes it is at least it was in August of 2018.

Is the food cooked there as in home cooking?

Absolutely! It's a '50s themed diner serving 'comfort food'.

Great little hometown Diner. When we first arrived to the outside--well, the name Rusty Lantern…read moreseemed appropriate--half expected to hear a gate creaking and slamming in the wind, and see a hitching rail for your horse. That made us a little nervous, but also so excited . Once inside that nervousness is quickly replaced by friendly people. You can immediately feel that it's a real local favorite. Everybody's eyes are on you when you enter, but that is definitely not to make you uncomfortable. They are smiling and welcoming. You're offered boisterous warm greetings, with that welcome home feel. With stools at the counter, some very big tables and chairs sitting off to the left for big parties to sit at, and booths for the typical size party, the seating was perfectly spaced and comfortable. It truly allowed for tables of regulars to intermingle. It was definitely rustic, folksy and the people were all friendly regulars like they were co-owners. The artwork on the wall was just so--cow hand and ranch family murals. I truly expected John Wayne any moment to come drawling in and tell me, "I think you need to sit down, partner." We chose a booth, sat down, and were greeted quickly by the most humble and sweet young lady who was our--No, THE server approaching us very quickly to take our drink order, and explain the small menu to us. Yes the menu was very basic. A rainbow of colorful chalk writing garnished in an invented style, a board displayed behind the counter, which consists of an evolving menu of fresh made dessert type foods that weren't on the menu --the menu lived. The small basic menu was one page--That was it. Having mostly the basics to choose from, I chose a nice sausage patty, and three scrambled eggs with cheese and onions. We were half expecting half effort food--boy were we wrong. I also couldn't help myself I had to order one of these fresh made goods displayed on that board. Knowing that it was a side to my already ordered dish, I asked my server. "How big is a slice of banana cream pie, is it a good side." Lol..." Yeah it's not that big" well I should have known by the Texas feel of the local little diner. When the cream pie came out I could have eaten it for both breakfast and lunch and been plenty full lol. It occupied my every thought, with fresh bananas and cream, a smothering of whipped cream over the top, and a perfect semi-sweet crumbly crust, I devoured it quickly! The fresh cracked eggs, not overly greasy from frying up on an overworked grill, and the flavorful sausage combined with what seemed to be hand grated potato hash browns, mixed with onions cheese and spices. This was a classic downhome cooked meal. It was easy to tell why the place was filling up with customers quickly. It didn't get too crowded, but the patrons definitely tripled by the time we were finished with our meal. The server was friendly and handled all of the orders expertly, and lol, her little boy brought the dishes out to the table for you. It started to feel more like eating at a B&B. And the food is amazing--you have to go here. That board that I was telling you about, more fresh made foods were being written on the board while we were eating --the menu lived. This was an amazing experience, with rustic artwork all over the walls, friendly people willing to scoot over so that we can take pictures. We will definitely be back here. When you're in Idaho Falls, or even if you live here, take a 3 minute trip up 20 to visit this wonderful diner. I promise you won't regret it. I was having a little bit of a hard time time coming up with this review because I definitely wanted to make this a John Wayne movie lol. They only serve breakfast and brunch, which I love because they specialize. The restaurant is older, but you could tell that they tried to keep it looking nice and the decor adds to the ambiance. We ordered the Cap N' Crunch French Toast and it was fun and delicious. The baguette added the perfect texture and balance. We also ordered the breakfast nachos and the sauces are drinkable! So good! April 2026 Idaho Falls, Idaho…read more I was surprised to see this place is attached to a hotel when I drove up. Typically I do not eat at restaurants that are attached to a hotel. However, Yelp told me it was a 4.3 star place to eat. I asked if they had any nonalcoholic beers. The waiter brings me a can of beer to show me what it is. When I tell him that I will have it. He says well I'll just take it back and put it in a glass. So they bring me a 16 ounce glass with the beer poured in and it only filled 12 ounces. I ordered the Nacho Mama's Dip. It is a chicken nacho dip. The waiter told me it was a large portion so I am eating that just as my meal. My husband ordered the fish and chips. When you walk in the front door, the bar is right there. Pretty large bar for one to sit and enjoy a drink or a meal. To the right our booths and high tables that line the wall as well as some booths in the middle of the restaurant that make you feel like you are sitting under a gazebo. There are tables and booths on the far wall as well. The tables are cut to appear like a live edge wood top table. The booths sit too low and the table sits high. Even my husband who is 6'2 felt an imbalance with the table to chair. My nachos come out and the cheese sauce is dripping off the side of the dish. It is an absolute mess. The nacho chips are off to the side. The toppings consist of black olives and onions with four pieces of diced tomatoes. Accompanied by a side plastic dish is salsa, sour cream, and guacamole. The guacamole is definitely not homemade. My biggest complaint is the cheese sauce is definitely from a can. The cheese that they did put on the nachos was a slice of cheese that was not even melted. See picture. Reminds me that I am eating in a restaurant attached to a hotel. There are no beans. The chicken is mixed in with the cheese sauce. And it is sparingly there. This dish is absolutely disgusting! The fish and chips were terrible. They're served in a basket with four pieces of fish and they sit upon fresh cut fries. The fish was not good. The batter has a odd taste. Perhaps the oil it is fried in? I think I would've been better off going to Culver's and having their fish platter. Although my beYr was in a can, it was very cold. It was truly the best part of my meal. I am so disappointed that yelp led me to this place. This is my warning to others. Stay away. We had two completely different meals and neither of them were good.

It was during their Grand-Opening week here in IF, and it was disgusting! My medium-rare sirloin was served RAW!! along with what looked like a 2oz scoop of cold, browning scrambled eggs. OMGosh! I showed it to our server, who offered me a free dessert. WHATT!!! In my head, I was storming around the place like Kevin Hart and ranting, "A DESSERT! Get a manager, cuz I ain't payin' for this right here!" but instead, I just declined the dessert, we paid, and left. After some years, we decided since BB had stayed in business with a decent review rating, we would try again. I mean, "Surely they've gotten better"--SMH--Nope. Still awful. Sooo... really it's on us that we even WENT BACK for this latest visit. In our defense, it again had been a few years, and we had never tried them at breakfast time. Only this time, four of us went for breakfast. I know, I know. Brilliant, right? Pay more for something that has been historically bad. Well, yeah. I ordered their build-your-own Cinnamon Roll French Toast Breakfast. It comes with the featured item, two eggs any-way, and a breakfast meat. So "build-your-own" is truly just, "Bacon or sausage, and how do you want your eggs?" The menu showed it with sausage patties, which looked appetizing, so I went with that and ordered my eggs with one extra egg, scrambled with cheese and onions. See it in your head--looks yummy. I had nothing to compare the French Toast that I was served to, so that was fine, I suppose--not a total disappointment. MY EGGS! Again, small, with cold, not-melty shreds of cheddar piled on top. The "with onions" was a little tuck of diced onions on the SIDE OF MY EGGS, and they were RED ONIONS!! I mean, who does that?! Last but not least, our server didn't ask me what sausage I wanted because I pointed at the menu when I ordered it--or so I thought that was the reason. No!! He assumed sausage links... OMG, the menu shows patties, so you ASSUME LINKS???? Of the four of us, mine was probably the worst experience, but not one of us left without at least one negative thing to say about our array of dishes. So, don't let the pics fool you, cuz most of it looked pretty good, but texture and flavor were bad for the others.--MY EGGS AND SAUSAGE!! We paid $107 for minimal-sized portions that we would have paid $75 or less for elsewhere. Not One Of Us--and not ever again--No, really, I mean it this time. Now, when I see all of these 5-star ratings, I wonder, "Where are they eating?" I hate to say it, but the coffee wasn't horrible. Grumble
