We came after leaving the Lodge Museum and saw they had good reviews. The food came out piping hot, large portions, and we were definitely happy. The restaurant is tiny, about 10 tables (I think) and they have a pickup window in front. Our waitress was great, checking on us often and clearing off the dishes quickly. We both ordered catfish and were very happy with our meals. read more

This was our choice for lunch on a road trip to see the cast iron museum. This place reminds me of a dairy bar -- classic American fare (burgers, fries, onion rings, etc) + lots of ice cream treats. The restaurant was super busy when we arrived with lots of carryout orders as well. We managed to get a table, though it wasn't clean when we sat down. Our waitress fixed it for us quickly though. We all wound up ordering burgers and fries, each customized with the toppings we preferred. I got bacon on my burger. Our food was delivered relatively swiftly. A big pro of this place is the pricing for a meal is quite reasonable. The food was average but enjoyable enough. The bacon on my burger was cooked nicely and wasn't too rubbery/fatty. The burger was simple and maybe slightly lacking in flavor, but cooked fresh and hot. The fries were frozen-fried but also hot. We were saving room for dessert from a local bakery later, so we passed on the ice cream, but their hot fudge sundaes did look good. Not a standout experience but got the job done. Not a ton of options in this area but this is a solid enough one. read more

Is Dixie Freeze the best (non-chain) place to eat in S. Pittsburg, as I heard one customer say? Yes, that's very likely true. Is Dixie Freeze worth a two hour drive, as I heard another customer say? No, not hardly. The restaurant is very old school, having been around for decades. It's basically a meat n threes or twos if you're less hungry. The food is just fine, if a bit underseasoned. That's understandable given the average age of the customers. Nothing that a little salt and hot sauce won't fix. I can't speak to the burgers or the 'cue but the onion rings looked terrific. Everything fried was freshly fried and properly cooked. The price to value ratio is excellent, with nothing on the menu topping $10. read more

Like walking back in time to a diner from the 50's. Friendly staff and great food at prices we haven't seen in 10 years. A great Cheeseburgers and fries is like 6 bucks! Desserts are incredible, as you would expect from a place called Dixie Freeze. Highly recommend if you are in the South Pittsburgh area. You won't be disappointed! read more

This place is amazing... we got 3 entrees, a drink, a shake, and dessert for like $40. And everything tasted great. The milkshake is made with real ingredients and you can taste it! Server was rly nice and attentive as well. Rly can't beat this for the price! read more

The catfish is out of this world good...fresh, breaded by a genius and fried just right. Honestly Really Good Catfish... and I say that as a 60 year-old man who's lived in the South his entire life. If you guys sell more of this fish and I start missing out...it might get ugly. read more

Step into the past for good food and an old-fashioned ice cream cone after your meal.

I was in town for work and our client brought in lunch from here every day. Bbq sandwiches one day, grilled chicken sandwich another and huge burgers the third. For take out they do a really smart thing. They give you the bun in a bag, meat packaged By itself with the fixins and condiments on the side. This kept the food from getting soggy. The burger was put together but since it was wrapped in foil without condiments it was very fresh too. If I every travel through and get a chance to stop in I will take it. They tell me it is a nostalgic building. read more

The food is good but I don't like the hours because what if I want Dixie freeze on Sunday or I want it for dinner at 6:00 on Saturday

Food service has declined, correct order provided...prices are astronomical for the mystery of what one finds on plate or carry out bag

Staff is always friendly. Service is on point. Food is always delicious. Prices are just right. We have to go every time we are in town or driving through. read more

Have eaten there many times love going there they have wonderful white beans and cornbread on Wednesdays. I highly recommend it. They put no animals seasonings in their food, which makes it more healthy less fattening. read more

We stopped in town after hiking and exploring Russell Cave National Monument and found this Dixie Freeze. Reviews seemed promising so we ordered a Southwest Burger and tater tots. The burger was absolutely delicious with fresh toppings of lettuce and tomato and a nice sweet bbq sauce that brought it all together in a sweet and savory combination. The burger patty was hand formed and a good size. The tater tots came out fresh and hot and a really good heavy portion. We enjoyed the burger and it lived up to reputation. We ordered to go and had great service at the outside window. read more

Passing through town and stumbled past this cute little stand, so we decided to come back after running to the Lodge factory store. Walked up to the counter around 4:30 and were told they were closed, despite the sign saying they were open until 5. Several customers and employees were still inside, so we were very disappointed we weren't served. It's too bad because we were really looking forward to it! 8/15/22 read more

I stopped into this jewel of a diner for a quick bite and was blown away by the speediness of the service. When the burger and onion rings came, I was truly impressed with the size and quantity of the Dagwood Special. It's a double cheeseburger with bacon and a piece of toast between the two patties. The burger and onion rings are ridiculously good. Do yourself a favor and try this small town place out. I only wish I had room for dessert. The pic shows half the Dagwood and onion rings. read more

Dixie Freeze - a burger and onion rings on a plate - Sandwiches Near Me - South Pittsburg, Tennessee

A dying breed in the south, the dairy bar. Greasy burgers, overworked fryers, huge milkshakes, chili slaw dogs, and the lifer waitron who could really give a damn about your order. LOVE it! If you're expecting a nice smile and a, "it's a pleasure to serve you" like at a fast food joint, you'll be disappointed. This place is a jewel that sparkles from the sweat and tears of the people that dine and work here. AND, the food is made in hurry and perhaps without much care, but it does the job. I left happy and not hungry and....isn't that the point? I also got the T-shirt. ($15, no kidding.) read more

Found this great local eatery just off the highway. If you're looking for some good down home cooking stop here and avoid the fast food chains. I ordered the pork chops and veggies. Very tender and yummy. Seriously take a few minutes and drive here it'll be worth the trip. And don't forget to save room for dessert! read more

The building is what drew us in. Great neon signage, hometowny feel, and police cars in the parking lot - all signs pointing to the best dive shack in town. Sadly this wasn't the case. Or perhaps it was. Maybe I just ordered the wrong thing. I would recommend you stick to faster foods here if stopping by. I ordered the fried chicken with mashed potatoes, green beans, and fried okra. Fried chicken - meh. Reminded me of high school cafeteria fried chicken. Fried okra - eh. Straight out of the freezer and into the fryer. Mashed Potatoes - bleh. Pour flakes from the box and mix with water. Green Beans - eheheheh...bleh. One spoonful was enough. My cohort got a club sandwich and fries and seemed to enjoy both. Is this a case of ordering the wrong menu item?? I think so. read more

If you ever go through South Pittsburgh, TN., don't leave without stopping here for a bite. Quaint little dairy bar/burger joint in this small foothills community. Everybody knows everybody just about, so you might get a couple of friendly curious looks. Known for the "Dagwood" sandwich, which is actually a huge double bacon cheeseburger with a piece of Texas toast wedged in between the patties. They have a great chili slaw dog, other sandwiches, and some rotating meat and veggies. Pretty good onion rings. Shakes and cones too. Not many places in the US left like this one, glad we stopped by. read more

Terrible terrible terrible! I had a sundae here and it was the worst one I've ever had in my whole entire life! After three bites I threw it away! I think that they used ice milk for their soft serve ice cream but I'm not sure. Either that, or it was just terrible soft serve. read more

This place has never let me down, not only is the inside such a cool place but their food is always the best. Great little place to eat in South Pittsburg. The food is good and cheap. The desserts are great as well. There main food options are hamburgers and meat-n-three plates. Stick with the burger and chocolate shake and you will be okay! Vanilla shake tasted more like a malt than a shake.

First time customers will be returning! Great find just minutes off the interstate. Great BLT and hand-patted burger with a side of hand breaded onion rings more than hit the spot. But, seeing a local enjoying a chocolate soft serve was too hard to resist. Be sure to save or make room for one! Extras: spotless bathrooms, friendly staff, and just around from the Lodge Factory Outlet Store. read more

Dixie Freeze, where time stands still. Literally. It took 45 minutes on our stop thru town tonight to get 8 cheeseburgers, some fries and 3 milkshakes. Wasn't full of customers even. Unbelievable. Disappointed to not have a local stop we found online that looked promising not deliver good service as we love to find hidden gems. No one that ordered after us got their food after us, felt like they skipped our order over others and didn't get moving on ours or comment on the time until we asked at minute 40 what was up. Try with caution. read more

Hidden gem!! Love going to this little place and getting a great burger, tater tots, and one of the best chocolate milkshakes around.
