The produce is right at the entrance where we picked up a coconut and kumquat (which is a citrus but completely edible, peel and all). It was so much fun browsing the snacks and chips. While I didn't purchase any, the condiment aisle was heaven and they has everything from vinegars to oils. They have so many frozen food items like dumplings, korean dogs (filled with cheese), and ice creams. I was most excited to check out the bakery but there was not much of a selection. Fellow yelper, the amazing, Jennifer.P sums up the bakery section very well. The prepared food section was slim the night we went, and it looked like they were out of a lot of items. The refrigerated section was also sparse and maybe they did not have time to stock it up after the weekend (we went on a Monday evening around 7pm). I loved that they had plenty of vegetarian items like veggie jerky found in the chips aisle, and puffed tofu in the refrigerated aisle. While T&T blows it out of the water in terms of prepared items and their bakery, Green Fresh has some amazing shelf stable hard to find items.

Most products from China, but I saw items imported from Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam and Thailand as well. The Long Version: I've been awaiting the opening of this grocery store ever since I saw the sign go up back in March of 2024. Their grand opening was October 19, 2024. I went the day after and have been back once since then. I've been to the Green Fresh on McArthur Ave and in fact have been to the original location when it was still on Selkirk St before it moved to McArthur. It was dingy and not the cleanest when it was on Selkirk, but when it moved to McArthur it cleaned up its act and became a place that was much more enjoyable to shop at. This second location on Merivale is even better. So big, bright and clean. I enjoyed looking at their chips and candies, lol. They also have hot foods and prepared sushi. They have a "Cake" section, but it's not a bakery with traditional cakes. It's just some packaged Swiss Rolls-type cakes and I think packaged mini Japanese-style cheesecakes. Their bakery section is all prepackaged items as well, mostly Filipino items like pandesal and also bread from Grey Matlock Bakery (Nigerian breads - not Asian at all, but hey I embrace inclusivity, lol). Their hot foods section has mostly Chinese food and some Indian food (samosas and I think I saw some pakoras as well). It's by the weight and you serve yourself then they weigh it and you pay at the prepared foods counter. The seafood section is in a separate room, so it really cuts down on the smell. In fact, I didn't notice any fish smell while in the store (I did not enter the "seafood room."). Service was satisfactory. Not super friendly, but not rude. Just neutral. The grocery store is where the Bad Boy Furniture used to be. It was a Future Shop before that. And for a few Halloween seasons it was a Spirit Halloween. There's lots of free parking in the parking lot out front. (198)

It's where the old McArthur Lanes Bowling Alley used to be. Green Fresh Supermarket is an Asian supermarket. It has lots of fresh produce, frozen items, refrigerated items, and shelf stable items. I was impressed with the amount of bubble tea ingredients they had. They had not just tapioca and jelly but also popping boba, and agar pearls. I have not seen the latter 2 at any supermarket before. They also have the lowest prices in the city that I've seen for Kracie DIY candy kits imported from Japan ($4.99). Their prices are a bit cheaper than other Asian supermarkets in general. They have a weekly flyer with even more discounts posted on their website. There is a bubble tea shop inside the supermarket called World Tea House and also a kiosk that sells bubble waffles called Nana Egg Bubbles. They don't have any other prepared foods though (like no BBQ station) and no Bakery. If you're looking for Asian items, you'll likely find it here. Free parking in their private parking lot.

I don't know if that would fly in a country where Spanish is the official language (or one of the official languages), but we're in Canada, so here we are. I actually find it kinda funny, but for the rest of my review I'll just refer to it as "the store" because I don't want any abuelas upset with me, lol. So the store is a Mexican grocery store. They sell mostly shelf-stable goods, but have a few refrigerated items. They have a good selection of Mexican candies, including 3 different flavours of Pulparindo! They didn't have Extra Hot though :( I love the sweet, sour and spicy flavours of Mexican candies! The candies I looked at all had their "best before" dates in the future, which I liked, and means they have good turnover of merchandise. I find that many international grocery stores have products past their "best before" dates, but I didn't see that at this store. There's a sign in the window that advertises they also sell prepared foods, but no prices. They had lots of dried peppers, and they also had tortillas. Oh and lots of sauces. There are not a lot of Latin American grocery stores in Ottawa, so I'm happy to see this store open up. The store opened in 2021. The owner of the store also owns 2 restaurants nearby: Margarita, and Mona's Taqueria. Staff were friendly and courteous. Street parking only.

They also have items made in Canada but the type of food is native to other countries. I have been looking for dhalpuri roti shells in Ottawa forever and there are so few places that sell them. They sell them here at Geeland, but only frozen, not fresh. And only 1 brand. They were 3 shells for $5.69. They were made in Canada and I think shipped from Toronto. They also had a whole shelf of stuff to make Halo-Halo! They had a fridge full of exotic drinks too. I was hoping for a counter of prepared foods, but they just had some savoury pastries by the cash register. They had 3 different types and so I got one of each. Nigerian patty ($2.25), Haitian patty ($1.50) and Jamaican beef patty ($1.75). I'll start with the Nigerian meat pie, because that's the only one that I've never had before. It was the biggest and thickest with the most filling. The pastry was similar to that of baked Argentinian empanadas. The filling was ground meat with potatoes and carrots. I'm not sure if it was the spices or the meat, but there was a gamey taste to it that I did not enjoy. I would be open to trying Nigerian meat pies again elsewhere, but I will likely not be getting these ones again. I've had Haitian patties before and they are similar to the French-influenced Vietnamese puff pastry called "pâté chaud" or "banh pâté so." Since both Haiti and Vietnam were at one time French colonies, this is unsurprisingly that they would have some similar French-influeneced dishes. The pastry was puff pastry and the filling was ground meat. There was very little filling to pastry ratio though. The majority of the patty was puff pastry, and the puff pastry was really oily/greasy. I did not like the one at Geeland. I love Jamaican beef patties. When I was in middle school there was a Korean convenience store up the street from my school that sold Jamaican beef patties (that's the cultural mosaic that is Canada for you!), and that's pretty much where all my allowance went, haha. Anyway, the ones at Geeland remind me of those patties I had once upon a time. The pastry was flakey. The filling was not too plentiful, but nice and hot (both in temperature and in spice level). I've had better tasting patties, but nostalgia sometimes trumps taste, lol. Overall, I'm giving this grocery store 4 stars because it's fairly large, clean, well-lit, and sells items that are hard to find in Ottawa. Staff were friendly and there's free parking on site.

I made a mental note to return sometime to check it out. When I got home I did some internet searching and discovered that they opened around December 2020, so they are relatively new. As the name suggests, it's an Indian Supermarket. It's not that large, but bigger than a convenience store. They sell some frozen foods, refrigerated foods, shelf-stable foods, and some prepared snacks and desserts (no prepared meals). No fresh produce nor fresh meats. Almost all of their items are imported from India. I picked up a Butter Chicken mix ($1.49) and an instant Kheer package ($2.79). As well as some prepared snacks: 2 vegetarian samosas ($0.79 each), a Manchurian puff ($2.29) and a pizza puff ($2.29). I loved that they had Falooda in bottles. Unfortunately they contained ingredients that I can't have, so I had to pass on them :( Their selection of spices and mixes was great. As was their selection of different types of flours, grains and pulses. However, I was disappointed with their selection of teas, cookies, and candies. The samosas and puffs were ok, but nothing special in my opinion. The samosas were particularly oily/greasy. The filling was mostly potatoes with some peas. They only had vegetarian samosas and this was their only variety. The puffs had minimal filling. I don't know what was supposed to be in the Manchurian puff but it just tasted like spices and dough. The pizza puff tasted like it was filled with just tomato sauce and spices, I didn't taste any cheese. They had Indian desserts like barfi. And also some cake slices. The cakes were advertised as egg-less, so good for those with egg allergies. Service was neutral. The supermarket is in the Emerald Plaza and is right next to Chatime. Lots of free parking.

You can order ahead or pick from the prepared food on the right of the cashier. I only wish the sweet and spicy sauce was spicier (it was very very mild to us) but they recently added a new soy & chili flavour that can scale up on the spice. It wasn't greasy and probably one of the better places for KFC by Ottawa standards. TIP: if you're getting take out and worried about the sauce making the chicken soft while you drive home, you can ask for the sauce on the side! They have plenty of Korean ingredients, snacks, noodles and a killer homemade kimchi that I believe is freshest on Fridays. There isn't much fresh produce but they do have lots of meats. Prices are a bit higher here but they're well stocked. The location is very clean and the staff are friendly. There's only street parking in front of the store but you can park in the lot across the street where the LCBO is.
