We ordered to much. :-\ However, hubby put in a valiant effort and managed to finish everything off. We *loved* the tomato salad, the meat assortment, the pickled vegetables. Everything was good! As other yelpers noted, the owner will stop to chat. He's passionate about food - he does it because he loves it - the best kind of restaurateur. His background is in health supplements so he looks for and buys meats with lower nitrate levels, buys vegetables locally and seasonally and makes what he enjoyes eating. As a result, you never quite know what's on the daily menu. (He told us you can find out on a day to day basis on Facebook and Twitter.) They have pre-packaged baked goods (e.g. pandesal and ensaymada, but no kakanin, which disappointed me a bit as I was hoping to get some sapin-sapin). They also have a small prepared foods section (e.g. pancit bihon, and a few stews I didn't recognize). They had a sign advertising empanadas, but they didn't have any the day we went :( The store is clean and while not huge, did not feel cramped. Prices are reasonable and they have a points reward system. Great place to pick up Asian grocery items, especially Filipino products, or African items, although selection is more limited. They are located in a strip mall with free parking.

The Long Version: District Deli opened up around March 2025 in the space that was Bismallah Pies (was Charlie's Groceteria before that). My husband and I dropped by to pick up a sandwich to share. The sandwiches are all named after nearby streets, which really gives it that neighbourhood feel. All meat sandwiches are $13.99 and vegetarian sandwiches are $12.49. You can also build your own for $13.99 where you can choose 2 meats, one cheese, and whatever vegetables you like. We went with the build your own option. We got roast beef and prosciutto cotto, fresh mozzarella and lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, pickled onions, pickled eggplants, and roasted red peppers, with a bit of honey mustard. The sandwich was really good. The bread was fresh, as were the other ingredients. It was a bit pricey in my opinion, but this is in comparison to other similar sandwich shops with $8-10 sandwiches (like 50 Two Sandwiches or Shorty's Sandwiches), but they are in industrial parts of town, so I get it, rent in Hintonburg is higher. The Long Version: My parents first introduced me to Green Fresh when they only had one location (the OG that was on Selkirk, that has since closed down). It was dingy and run down, but had lots of Asian ingredients that they were looking for. And it was the closest Asian grocery store to where they lived. They were thrilled when it moved to McArthur and had a total facelift, it was new, bright and clean. Green Fresh then opened a second location in Nepean on Merivale, closer to my neck of the woods. Then in January 2025, they opened this third location in Kanata/Stittsville. It's in the Grant Crossing, where the Bed, Bath and Beyond used to be (next to the Value Village). This newest location is very similar to the Nepean location. It even has the same bubble tea vendor inside (Y-Not Go For Tea). Which is a bit funny because the first Y-Not Go For Tea location is inside the Hunt Club T&T and T&T and Green Fresh are competitors! The Vanier Green Fresh has a different bubble tea vendor though: World Tea House. I visited this Kanata/Stittsville location shortly after opening, so maybe they don't have all their stuff together yet because although they have a section labelled "Bakery" they didn't have any baked goods :( However, they do have a prepared food section. It's self-serve and you pay by the weight ($2.29 per 100g). They also have a counter where they make Jianbing, Chinese crepes. There was a huge line up for these when I went, so they are definitely popular. They have lots of items, including snacks (my favourite aisles), lol. Most of the products are from China, but they have items from other countries too. They had Kracie DIY gummy kits imported from Japan. And they were only $4.99. The west end is now flush with Asian grocery stores (T&T, Kowloon, now Green Fresh, and soon Sunny Food Mart) compared to the east end (to my parents' chagrin). It's a Syrian bakery specializing in Middle Eastern savory baked goods such as manakeesh, kaak and saj. They also sell baklava and other desserts, as well as dips like hummus. I got a man'ousheh/meat pie ($6.99). There was a bit of a wait for it because it was freshly baked and they had a lot of customers. Despite being busy, service was courteous and I felt welcomed. The meat pie was piping hot, which I appreciated. It had a good amount of meat and the pastry was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The pastry was not too thick nor too doughy. However, the meat was missing that smokey flavour that I enjoy with Middle Eastern meat pies. Nonetheless it was still good. The price was a bit higher than at some other places in the city of comparable quality, but I recognize that rent in Wellington West is higher than say in Nepean.
