In all my adventures, there are a few people that stand out. Stormy of Sirena Scuba in the Atlanta area is by far a Dive Instructor I am incredibly happy to have met, and even more proud to call her a friend. I had the privilege of working with Stormy for several Open Water Dive Classes, and can truly say that Stormy takes the role of being a PADI Dive Instructor by storm. She has an amazing temperament, fantastic passion, and complete commitment to her students. Stormy is all heart. She works lovingly with the DiveHeart organization, purely for the purpose of introducing all she can to the amazement that is Scuba. If you are looking for private instruction from a fantastic instructor, you won't find better than Stormy!!

I highly recommend Stormy for anyone who wants to learn to dive! Anne

Dive Georgia is not unusually expensive -pretty typical - but you want to avoid shops that have found a way to make the product cheaper. I would use two words to describe the training experiences I have had through Dive Georgia: Challenging and Supportive. There are plenty of dive shops who simply want to get you through the course so they can take your money. They don't really care how much you learn along the way. That is not Dive Georgia. They seem to be very conscientious about the fact that they are training you for a sport that needs a certain level of proficiency for you to be safe and for you to enjoy yourself. More than any dive shop I have ever gone diving with, they are committed to making sure you receive that level of training. I recently completed the NAUI Master Diver with them. It was challenging, fun, and a wonderful learning experience. Are they perfect? No, but their shortcomings are not really related to the training. My chief complaint is about pre-class communication, which is sometimes a little last minute, and sometimes assuming you know things about needed equipment that you don't know. I spoke to someone on the phone and signed up for a class. I wasn't told there were any prerequisites, then was called and asked to send in proof of my needed prerequisite. So, I had to quickly sign up for a class, to meet the requirements. I wish this had been mentioned up front - but, in the scheme of things, pretty minor. I have had good interactions with everyone, but if you are looking for a great first contact point, ask for Emily. She is super friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable!

I called to let them know and receive a refund. I knew we had to eat the cost of the cheap towel, they charged us $80! For the two cheap towels. I would not recommend this place if business.

The upside for the owner and shop is that it appears they have so many customers they have zero obligation or motivation to care or fulfill promises. -- I spoke with the owner, Randy Wright, about six advanced courses I planned to complete. Randy said he was just on a call with the Director of SSI Training, who Randy would call back. Randy stated he would get answers to my questions and "call me right back." Five days and counting, no call back. -- Online, a week in advance, I scheduled and paid for an Advanced Wreck course. The day prior to the course I called to inquire if it was only going to be classroom of if we would be in the pool as well. The employee informed me that no instructor was available and the class would not be held. No one was planning to call and warn me before my one-hour drive to the shop and there was no offer of a refund! -- I've experienced the same lack of service is at both the Memphis and Marietta shops -- which seems to reflect the experience I had with the owner. If I blew off clients and did not keep promises, I wouldn't have a business left. So good on The Dive Shop for creating a model where me as a customer is undeserving of promised service. The only one professional in the shop is Lisa Collins so if you have to go to The Dive Shop, see her.

We reached out to one of the owners, Dawn, and asked if it was alright if we still came as we wouldn't arrive until just after closing due to traffic. Dawn offered to wait for us to arrive and provided exceptional service thereafter. Her Husband and Co-owner, Bert, took very good care of us. He made sure to give us an array of options and even explained the differences, similarities and unique features of each one. I eventually got it down to 2 different options and just couldn't decide. They were both very supportive and continued to point out the differences for me and coach me through making the right decision for me. Dawn was really patient and assured me that I couldn't make a bad decision as both of the masks I selected were a great option and a great fit. After much deliberation and an hour and change flew by we walked out with two new snorkel sets and huge smiles on our faces. Thank you so much Bert and Dawn! We get to do our favorite activity on our trip because of your kindness and compassion. Don't walk RUN, to Divers @ Sea and allow Bert and Dawn to shower you with some good ol' southern hospitality.

Initially Bert was very helpful in explaining the process and getting me started, assuring me they would do everything possible to get me certified in time for my trip. In June, I visited the shop again prior to my Confined Water training weekend to complete necessary forms and knowledge review. I brought with me gear (BCD, regulator, mask/fins/snorkel) that my grandfather (a master diver who lives in SC) graciously purchased for me as a surprise birthday gift. Once Dawn realized I already had my own gear and she would not be getting a sale from me, the encounter went downhill immediately and was quite frankly the worst customer service experience I've ever had - she had a disgusted look on her face, was rude and refused to engage altogether from that point on. I was then told I would not be able to use my own BCD/reg for the training and would have to rent theirs, which after working with a new dive shop I now know is completely ridiculous and unreasonable. Nevertheless, I completed the confined water training with them as scheduled the following weekend and had a spot already reserved for their Open water training trip to Dive Land Park a few weekends later. After no follow up regarding the Dive Land trip I reached back out and was given the runaround before ultimately being told there would in fact be no trip that weekend or any weekend prior to my Belize trip due to lack of interest from current students. I requested PADI referral forms and wanted no further business with this shop. I was lucky to find Peachtree Dive Center (see my 5 star review on their page) who were amazing and accommodating in every way. They got me in last minute for their Open Water trip to Dive Land Park the original weekend I was planning to go with Divers@Sea. To my surprise, when I got to Dive Land I was shocked to find Bert there with a group of Divers@Sea students after being told they wouldn't be making a trip that weekend. It is clear from my own experience (and others' after reading past reviews) that Bert & Dawn's top priority is making money from equipment sales and they have little to no investment in training aspiring SCUBA divers. If you are looking for anything in a dive shop other than a place to buy gear, I HIGHLY recommend looking elsewhere.

My experience with Aquatic Explorers was better than I could have possibly imagined! My husband has been diving for 20 some years and is very passionate about it. I went on an "exploration" dive on our honeymoon to see if I would like it and found I LOVED it. When I saw the AES Groupon it was too good of a deal to pass up. I was a little apprehensive with it being a Groupon, but it was the best decision I could have made. After taking the course and getting to know the owners and their employees, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this course at full cost to any of my friends looking to get certified. I was very impressed by their diving knowledge and experience and loved that they were so passionate about marine education and conservation. I have a crazy schedule and they were so kind with working around me being in and out of town for work. They never gave up on me until we found a weekend that worked! I loved the ease and convenience of being able to do my bookwork online from anywhere. I know the below comment mentioned how they didn't like being asked for their personal info, but I felt they didn't ask for anything that wasn't pubic record anyway AND how do you think they verify it is you that is being certified?! It does not seem that strange or intrusive to me at all. Our first day of class started in the classroom with Devin who was extremely informative and made you feel comfortable asking questions. He explained everything thoroughly and used visual aids when relevant, which helped me a lot. Next was into the pool with Genette and Mandy who both made you feel comfortable and gave you the confidence to master the skills you need to know underwater. If a mistake was made they didn't make you feel stupid, they would just help you until you understood how to do it properly. They also explained the reasons why things were done certain ways, which I really appreciated. Although we were in a pool, they would explain things to us in the context of being in the ocean or lake. By the end of the two days, my confidence in my abilities has grown exponentially. I can't wait to do my checkout dives and receive my full certification! Another great thing about AES is they offer all kinds of fun trips throughout the year to different diving locations that you can join if you are certified or go on to do your checkout dives. Granted, if you want to save money, you can do your dive at Lake Lanier with them as well, but who wants to go to Lake Lanier when you could check out in Nassau or Abaco!
