Very good studio located in a plaza with other business so parking is shared and also free. There's always ample parking as the plaza is not a high traffic one. I've taken two classes here which were in the evenings and both were not too packed. One of the classes has four people total including the instructor. Benefit of that is that you get as much room as you want and more of the one on one direction from the instructor. Their prices are fair and probably considered around standard prices for their walk-in as well as membership. The walk-in class to date is $18. You can also get unlimited classes member for $67 and $79 per month plus a one time registration fee of $40 something dollars. The $79 membership can be cancelled at anytime. They strongly encourage you to be on time. Monica is absolutely great and welcoming as well as the two lovely instructors I have had so far in both classes. If you are looking for a fun choreographed workout class to burn a few extra calories to some hits definitely check out this place. Not really any like it in the area either.

I heard about DivaDance through Yelp, and I instantly thought let's try this out. Recently I've enjoyed the string of health/wellness events that focus on working on the body instead of eating my body weight in food. So I was thrilled when I got the invite to try this out. DivaDance is a multi-location dance class that challenges your inner sexy. They are located in New York, Austin, Chicago, Philadelphia, DC, and HotLanta. The Atlanta location is ran by the lovely Monica. Ms. Monica was easy to book with and easy to converse with. I did a quick text and she put me down on the schedule. Ms. Monica uses a dance studio in the Sandy Springs area. The dance studio has a cute homey feel. Nothing sexy like the dance moves but a great space. When it was time to start the class... the lights were turned off and the ambience purple lights were flipped on. *Class: My Goodies *Time: 8:00 pm My Goodies is a fast paced song that got my heart pumping. A young lady from the New York location actually taught this class and she did a good job pepping people up... like myself up. Initially we warmed up to a mashup of chart topping music then we moved into learning the dance. In a hour we learned an entirely new routine. After we learned the routine we split into groups and went for it. I almost fell out of my skin when we were split up, but the women in the class cheered us on and we went for it. After class we cooled down and were given a nice "Cupcake" beverage. Pretty exciting ending! Overall this class deserves an A. The instructors are nice, the members are welcoming, non judgmental, and pretty cool switch up to your normal workout. I would definitely recommend the class if you want to step outside of your comfort zone or if you would like to brush up on some of the newest twerks, pops, and locks! Pitfalls, make sure you are ready to attempt some fast pace body rolls and be kind to yourself if you make a complete fool out of yourself.

Dancefx is a not-for-profit so they really rely on and commit to the community. Plus, they are SO AFFORDABLE! They've got a ton of classes and events coming up and they sell clothes there, as well so you can make your tutu and leotard dreams come true. If you've ever even thought about taking a dance lesson this is the place to go. All the instructors were amazing in showing us how to merengue! (Sp?) They teach all ages from 2.5 years and up, so there's no reason to be shy. They even have babysitting events so mom & dad can go out while the little ones get some energy out!

I'm not going to lie, I was pretty intimidated myself when we attended a Yelp Elite event at this place and our instructor, Emi, told us we would be learning how to do the merengue(I thought that was pie?). Ok, moving on... Emi was super friendly and didn't make any of us feel like we were too stiff to be there (thank God, I saw bullets streaming down hubby's face when we pulled into the parking lot). The event we attended was called Elites Get Coupled, which was appropriate given that it was almost Valentine's Day. Though my guy was totally nervous about this, I'm so glad we went! Emi, along with Lorien, taught us some merengue moves, and it turns out almost anyone can learn to dance. We felt pretty good about our abilities by the end of the event! Lorien brought in her all-girl hip-hop group (I think they're part of the Pin-Up Troupe?), and they were SO COOL... and talented, obviously. I could have watched these ladies perform all day!! Though they may have had me feeling like my new merengue moves were a little lame, at least now I know I have something to work towards... right? One of the best parts about Dancefx is the fact that they're a non-profit and donate to all kinds of local charities that support causes like fighting AIDS, helping the homeless and people with disabilities, and so on. I think it'd be such a thoughtful date idea to bring someone here and learn a couples dance! You get to know each other in a different way and can judge once and for all who's got better moves (I think we all know who won that dance off...wink wink). Plus, giving back to the community is icing on the cak--lemon meringue pie.

It's really easy to spot the location as you approach the shopping plaza from the south, and it took me less than 5 minutes to get here from I-285. The studio is nicely decorated, giving a comfy, welcoming feeling when you enter. This is in stark contrast to some studios I've gone to that are basic and drab. There is only space for one class at a time, but the floor is huge! I'm thinking there would be more than enough room for a class of 30 people. There are barres (the portable kind) for hosting ballet classes, and weights of all sizes for fitness classes. The floor is kind of slippery, so if you tend to dance barefoot a lot and have soft feet (like me - definitely slipped a couple times lol) I'd suggest to at least wear some jazz footies with a grip bottom. There is ample cubbie space to store your belongings during class. There's even a good amount of waiting room for parents if you're looking to hold a class for children. Also there is a dressing room in addition to one unisex bathroom. On my way out, I spoke to the owner who was extremely friendly and mentioned that the studio has several time slots open for rentals at the moment. Dance instructors - check this place out!

I came across Ballroom Impact Atlanta online, and they were offering a free introductory wedding dance class. Me being me, I messaged them before signing up, and I'm glad I did! Evidently, the site should've been updated to remove that promotion, but the person I spoke with said they'd honor it since I brought it to their attention. Our instructor was fantastic -- patient, professional, and encouraging. I have a bit of dance experience and tend to pick things up quickly, but my fiancée... not so much. Still, the instructor was incredibly kind and supportive, helping her feel comfortable with the basics. By the end of the session, she was performing the basic waltz like she'd invented it herself! The only slight awkwardness came after the class -- it seemed the person who gave us our introduction hadn't been informed about the free lesson arrangement, which made for a brief, uncomfortable exchange as we were leaving. But honestly, that was minor compared to how great the overall experience was. I would highly recommend Ballroom Impact Atlanta to anyone looking for professional, quality dance instruction. The packages can be a little steep, but they absolutely deliver in terms of service, care, and expertise.

We were aiming for a puppet show last weekend but landed on a science show this weekend and I'm so glad we did! We got to see "Noreen the Science Queen" and engage in a live show with her. Not only was she amazing, but it was so wonderful to expose our girls to a woman in STEM and, more special for them, a Black woman in STEM. After the show, Noreen the Science Queen greeted the attendees in the lobby. She was open for pictures, and was selling both science kits for at home experiments and copies of her book. She is also available for birthday parties!! I attended a musical performance of the group Abilene on a Saturday night. I truly enjoyed everything about the experience. First, the theater is relatively small, and most seats are not too far from the stage. I had lucked out and was able to purchase a seat in the front row, which is 10 to 15 feet away from the stage. The performance by Abilene was simply spectacular. They describe themselves as a neo classical ensemble. I love the way they took some classical pieces by composers, such as Bach in Vivaldi, deconstructed them, reconstructed them, and made them their own. The peace, entitled Cascades was probably my favorite. It was inspired by the mountain range in the Pacific Northwest. The passionate playing near the end by both the cellist and the violinist was extraordinary. I also love the way they created a peaceful environment during their performance. They had a fog machine or smoke machine, as well as different colored lights used with each song. I also appreciated having David Crowe, the cultural arts coordinator, introduce the group, as well as tell us a little bit about the upcoming performances. While the tickets for next season don't go on sale until May, I'm ready to purchase tickets for more shows in 2023 and into 2024. Cheers
