I also have coached a cheer squad. I also was a Zumba instructor for 5 years. Location is prime. Right off Damen (Blue Line). Plenty of paid parking in several directions. I can actually bike here in 10 minutes. Studio it self is on the 3rd floor. I didn't see an elevator but not really an issue. However you have to get buzzed in so don't be late. I never had a problem. Studio was spacious. Dance floor was good. Plenty of mirrors and clean bathroom. Ventilation could be better. View of Point is beautiful. Price for value is good. I had a groupon for 5 classes. I have only done 4, and unsure if I will take the last class. Also they have new client specials which seem very good. I think $30 for a week for unlimited classes. Class format I found frustrating. I pick up choreography very fast. I attended two different classes with three different instructors. Zi-Cardio and B-Girl Dance (hiphop). While I was able to keep up in class, I found the choreography to be too much. Not hard just too many unnecessary additions. It was not intuitive at all. Because so many extra moves put in, often the instructor was off-beat. This is frustrating for any dancer. Also because so much extra steps, very hard to predict the next move unless you have done the song before. Instructors were all friendly. Ahn is a beautiful dancer and stayed on beat the full time. Downside to all instructors is that trying to perform for live recorded class and little actual instruction given. Take aways: good studio but not my preference. If you do trial, go for full month. Will take 3 to 5 classes to pick up choreography. Classes don't seem conducive to new or drop-in students. Much better if you are a member and come at least 2x a week. Not for me because classes won't improve my dance skills. Frustrating choreography because often time spent trying to figure the move which was being done in such an awkward way. If you are a hiphop or latin dancer, probably won't work for you. Classes were very good for cardio. On average 550 calories burned per class. Love the fact thay every class had a full arms song!!! Good luck studio as I love women run businesses!!! Tip: check out routines on Instagram and that will give you an idea of how they dance at this studio.

My overall confidence and energy are a lot higher too. I really like that the instructors are high energy and give you tips to keep you going, but also super understanding that you may need rests or can't keep up the whole time, as my first adult dance class this was super important to me for being able to jump in and feel comfortable. The location is also amazing, right off the Damen blue line, in a loft studio space with big windows and lots of natural light that seems to be right out of a movie. I always feel like the character from Flashdance walking up the staircase to class. For measure, I am a pretty athletic and go to the gym 3-4x a week, and here was my response to the following classes: The ballerina fight club gave me the best workout and towards the end I almost fainted but took a mini water break and was able to power through, has a combination of cardio with toning/sculpting. The Zi-Cardio was less of a workout and a bit easier for me, but I had a lot of fun and it was a mood booster(though this is a great exercise class for those with a lower threshold). The ballerina bum workouts are the hardest for me, not so much cardio but more so toning and sculpting specific muscle groups. I have a feeling the WERQ and hip hop classes I will take this weekend will be my favorite though-looking forward to trying them out, and definitely plan on signing up for more classes after my trial is done.

I was very surprised at how much I enjoyed it and it wasn't like anything I was expecting! The studio itself is so cute - love the disco balls in the hallway and studio itself. It's kind of tricky to find the spot - there's a small door on the side street that you have to enter the access code to get in. They emailed me the code about an hour before class started. We had a great instructor and I really like the flow of class. About 5-10 of warmup, 5-10 minutes of core and weight work, and then the rest of the time spent learning the choreo and dancing to different songs at different speeds. I enjoyed this concept of using the same choreo over and over more than I thought I would. Overall, I left tired and sweaty (recommend bringing a towel) and will definitely be back!

The class format was warm up, choreo, cool down. What I didn't love about the class was that we just did the same choreo sequence for 25+ minutes to different songs. After awhile, I was tired of it and wanted to do something else. One thing that could be done to alleviate this would be to teach the dance in chunks instead of quickly teaching the whole thing then repeating it ad nauseum. Even the cool down was doing the same choreo but slower! The staff was really friendly and the studio was nice. It can be tricky to find the door--go in on Hudson or through All About Dance.

Once inside you have to walk up to the second floor. Dance studio for class was big and spacious. It was one of three different studios. This space is huge. Class started with warm-up which got your blood flowing. Warmup included pushups so grab floor mat if not keen on doing them on hard wooden floor. Dance class was tough. Prior dance experience is needed. You don't have to be a professional but need to be able to pick-up choreography quick. Sometimes you will learn (2) 8 counts together and then move on very quickly. The style of dance seemed like Jazz, Theater and Pop. I liked it but I usually dance hip-hop, latin or African. It was a change of pace but Julia made it super fun. With this particular routine there was a plank portion, I skipped it because I just didn feel like it. Julia prepared me that the routine did include this in an 8 count. I just added some bodyrolls and called it a day. Most of the people in class seemed to be regulars. Everyone was friendly. After 44 mins of dancing, we finished with some toning that included an arm song. After putting light weights down, Julia stretched us to the max. THANK GOODNESS I would come back and groove some more. I honestly just wanted to delay working on a memo so thats why I signed up on Class Pass at last minute.

The owner, Sharon, is so welcoming and has created such a great community where everyone feels comfortable and motivated. If you're serious about lifting, this is the place to be. They have an amazing variety of machines and equipment that you won't find at most gyms, and everything is designed for people who really want to train properly. The atmosphere is motivating, the people are friendly, and it feels like a gym where everyone genuinely wants to see each other succeed. A couple of my friends joined after I recommended it, and they're so glad they did. I couldn't recommend Quads more!

This is the most difficult review I've ever written for Yelp because I honestly love the idea of…read moreQuads and its history, but after a trial week, I ran back to my pathetic Planet Fitness. For years, I walked by and looked in the window just to see if some of the vibe would entice me to walk in and get energized by all the real-life Marvel Superheroes working out. And I'm glad for the week of experience I had because Quads has some of the nicest, knowledgeable, and dedicated fitness people I've ever met. From the moment I walked in to my final exit, the desk staff, the family members who run it, trainers I encountered, and a few guys who could deadlift car engines whom I asked questions how to use this or that, I felt a lot of compassion for me being the new guy in a sea of bewildering equipment that could either change my fitness life or scare me away. Bear in mind that I truly love Quads but coming from a lengthy history of memberships at Lakeshore Sport & Fitness, Gorilla Sports, YMCA, Holmes Place, Chicago Athletic Clubs, and Planet Fitness (with visits to FFC, Crunch, East Bank Club, Cheetah, Life Time, Bally's, and Midtown Athletic Club), I have to do a pro and con thing. Pros It's a good environment to watch others doing astonishing calisthenic exercises and massive lifts and squats. I'll never get to that level, but it's an inspiring place to get jazzed about your own routine. Quads has a diverse membership. You'll see everything from people doing their daily treadmill to pro bodybuilders doing four-hour circuits. I saw every kind of body type and age group. People doing rehab exercises and a person with a visual impairment. The specialty here is bodybuilding, though everyone is welcome. You'll hear grunts, fits of anger, yelling of encouragement, the rage of accomplishment, and claps of high-five. I felt like I was in a place where great bodies are refined. The membership prices are fantastic for the amount of equipment you're offered, and the hours are comparable to other gyms. They offer a few additional membership discounts not listed on the website, so go in and talk with them. Kudos to a gym that finally understands the right way memberships should work--upfront and no hassles. You are constantly reminded of your potential. There are photos and awards everywhere of past and present bodybuilders and pro and amateur athletes, and you can't help but soak up some of that greatness. You're in a place where celebrities have trained, too. Cons Here's where I have to be brutally honest. I may not know the difference between an Iso-Lateral Front Lat Pulldown and an Iso-Lateral Wide Pulldown, but I do know when machines are so old that they need to be replaced. If a machine's pads are worn, replace them. If a Selectorized's weight stack has half its weight labels missing, that should be fixed asap. If a machine's so old that the frame's been painted a number of times, it's probably a good time to replace it. I'm going to guess most of the equipment is older than the members. Sure, old-school machines can be great, and a lot of bodybuilders want them, but at some point, you need to replace them. Hammer Strength, Precor, and Cybex are constantly evolving the science of ergonomics, body mechanics, and safety. Please, Quads. Get new equipment. I didn't see any dumbbells less than 10#. That's not a bad thing, but small weight dumbbells would be great for people doing rehab or weaklings like me starting back at doing simple free weight exercises. In fairness, Planet Fitness dumbbells start at 10#, too. Other reviews are correct: A lot of the equipment, especially the Selectorized machines on the first floor, are squished so closely that safety could be an issue. There are a few machines so close together that parts could touch if used in full range of motion. If you're used to a defined circuit from a previous gym--especially if most of your workout is using Selectorized equipment--you might have difficulties matching it to the machines here. Plate-loaded and cables, no problem; they'll have one of anything you'll ever want. But for Selectorized, nothing made sense because a lot of what I needed was spread throughout the gym on both floors and in hard to find areas (e.g. the pec fly/rear delt machine was in a dimly lit corner, and most of the weights in the stack had no labels). I won't go into cleanliness. Suffice it to say this is a well-worn gym. The rusty lockers and second floor smell attest to the longevity of Quads, for better or worse. Overall, you should try Quads for a week to see if you like it. Most people swear this is the best gym. No, Quads doesn't have a pool, a sauna, towel service, group fitness classes, fancy self-locking lockers, a three-story climbing wall, or sleep rooms. They offer a world of fitness possibilities in an old school gym where amazing happens.
