We came here tonight for dinner while on vacation in Copenhagen. We got there around 830 and unfortunately they were out of all their banh mi. We got the chicken vermicelli bowl and the pho. Both of the dishes were delicious and packed with flavor. The pho had a rich broth with plenty of beef and noodles. Adding hoisin and some sriracha were the perfect accompaniments. The vermicelli bowl was slightly spicy and had a delicious sauce on it. Both dishes had plenty of veggies in them (particularly the vermicelli bowl) and I particularly liked the pickled carrots in the vermicelli bowl. You order at the counter when you get here and then find a table. They had about a dozen tables so despite the place being busy, it wasn't hard to find a seat. My pho lacked any traditional base and when I asked for some fish sauce, I was given a dipping sauce for egg rolls. My husband ordered the spicy beef soup that came with bread and the bread was the best part of the meal. It appears that they used the same broth, but added more pepper flakes for spice. I understand that this is probably great for first-timers or if you're not familiar with what and how true authentic pho should be. This was a pretty good spot to grab dinner on a cold evening in Copenhagen. I had the beef stew & my sister had the pho. Both dishes were quite tasty, though I preferred the stew. (I've had better pho in the states/elsewhere, but that's not too surprising...) The beef stew was very hearty and came with a very large piece of bread for dipping! Wow! Just wow! Thats how I'll start off this review. I had heard so many people talking about District Tonkin and how amazing it was that I had to go and see what everyone was talking about. Delicious, fresh Vietnamese food - as close to Vietnam as you can get in Copenhagen! The Traditional Bahn Mi sandwich was tasty and an impressive size. Definitely a good sized lunch. I had forgotten how Vietnamese filter coffee is traditionally served until it arrived in front of me, complete with delicate aluminium top-of-cup filter already trickling down onto a small layer of condensed milk. The filter cup was a little full, but that just gave me an excuse to drink some coffee quickly - not a bad thing for me! For the four of us, we had one beef pho (tasty but could have used more spice ), one chicken banh mi (good crusty bread, nice sauce) , and one veggie noodle salad plus a couple drinks( the mango being the tastiest).... the food was all fairly tasty with decent sized portions, but the prices were ridiculous! When we did the conversion later, we found we had spent 80$ USD!! That's a bit outrageous given that pho typically costs about 5$ in the US. We were shocked! I am glad that I ate my first Bahn mi sandwich (Vietnam sandwiches) here. A small menu card is always a good sign. There were only eight dishes on the menu (apart from deserts and drinks), so it was pretty easy to choose one from the list. I haven't had many protein meals lately, so I decided to get the grilled beef menu. I knew from the beginning that my mouth would suffer if I ate the baguette (Although it was warm and quite crispy ＼（＾ ＾）／). The sandwich was good. An excellent beef cut, not chewy (no sinew). I like the combination of long and slim cuts of the fresh cilantro, leeks, green onions, cucumbers, chilies (although not the Jalapenos), as well as the pickled carrots. A unique taste, but it works. Their Tonkin sauce was also good. I didn't realize it was there until I was half way down my baguette, and then it started to drip. The sauce was sweet and sour, unlike the typical spring roll sweet and sour red sauce; this was not as thick, and it was mixed with oil too. The heat was perfect (which I wouldn't have expected). If you are not that good with spicy sauce, then order some warm tea (which was also nice). It should help calmed your tongue ^^. I didn't order the Vietnamese coffee because I know I'll get a bloated stomach :( But you should try it. You use a small coffee pot that is called a Vietnamese filter. It looks like a hat and sits on top of a coffee cup. Inside is a chamber for coffee and room for hot water. It is very basic and simple. The white liquid at the bottom of a coffee cup is the condensed milk. I didn't take a picture. But it is an easy find on Google. A little tip for beginners: Tuck in everything into the baguette, and squeeze some Sriracha sauce before you eat the sandwich. read more

Had a terrible hankering for Pho soup one night, and the only real Vietnamese place in the neighborhood was District Tonkin. While it seemed to cater mainly to the nearby offices for lunch, it's sparingly populated menu cart still sported a few decent choices outside of sandwiches. We had the meatballs, and the stew and a rice noodle soup. Our attempt to find a good Pho wasn't succesful really, but it turned out that mixing the rice noodle soup and the meat balls got us pretty close. My girlfriend is the resident Pho expert, and she declared it a success. We came back another day for another round of meatballs - really an excellent dish. Especially with added hot sauce. All the hot dishes come with a big loaf of bread, more than plenty for even a slightly above sized lumberjack, should one of those happen to traverse the streets of Poshtown Copenhagen. Speaking of, prices were on the steeper end of medium. Not shocking, location taken into consideration. But the quality of the food lived up to the price, so it was all good. After two weeks of eating delicious but bland Scandinavian food, I was looking for food with spice and heat. I desperately wanted some vegetables and this place delivered! I ordered the house salad, which was full of mixed greens, cilantro, edamame, and cauliflower. The dressing was just amazing: tangy with lots of flavor. The portion was quite generous, though not what I would consider cheap (74dkk). I also ordered the traditional banh mi, which was a great value (54dkk) for the portion. I came here tonight with my brother and we both left feeling like we had scored big on dinner. We had the Pho (120kr), a bahn mi (60ish kr), avocado smoothie (40ish kr), and coconut porridge (40ish kr) , and all four items were great. We got our food quickly, and the service was actually great, which is a huge plus here in CPH. I was I was a little worried when we walked up because it didn't look like there was much seating, but once we got inside, I saw that there was plenty of space. I'm not a Pho connoisseur so I couldn't tell you how authentic it was, but there was a lot of cilantro and pepper in the Pho- I really liked it, but if you aren't into those flavors, it may not be something you like. As far as I'm concerned, this is "legit" Vietnamese food and as a frame of reference it's as good as all the "authentic" places I've been throughout the US. The banh mi are delicious and chock full of cilantro, so if you're one of those genetic mutants who doesn't like cilantro, then too bad. The bun is bright, acidic and umami and I could actually taste the lemon grass that the beef was marinated with.
