I did the work for a year and I didn't see any progress towards the goal that I needed help with. Later, I ended up doing brainspotting and I'm getting more traction and movement with this modality. This review is long over due. Rita is an absolute miracle worker! I went to District Hypnosis to kick a 15+ year smoking habit. I had low expectations because I had tried to quit multiple times in a lot of different ways with no success. I remembered having a friend who said their mom quit with hypnosis and for as long as I had been trying to quit I felt like it was worth a try even if I was skeptical. What I could not have anticipated is how meeting Rita would change my life. By my second session I had quit smoking. Poof! It's a whole 7 months later at the time of this review and to this day I feel like it's a habit that I never had. I simply no longer identify with cigarettes, past or present. It doesn't even bother me to be around people who are smoking, which totally blows my mind. Being that I had quit smoking early in our sessions, Rita asked if there was anything else I wanted to work on with the sessions I had remaining. I mentioned that I was feeling a lot of stress and anxiety around my work and asked if that was something she could help with. Sure enough, Rita turned out to be better than any psychologist I have ever seen in helping me break the cycle of stress and negative thoughts. Further, she gave me the tools to calm my own mind instead of being dependent on therapy sessions or drugs forever. You can tell Rita really cares about the people she works with and wants nothing more than to see them succeed and live their happiest lives. Towards the end of my sessions Covid happened, forcing Rita and I to do my sessions virtually. To my surprise our virtual sessions worked just as well as our in person sessions. I decided to go to Rita to manage stress associated with chronic illness. I was unsure of the experience, as managing stress is a less measurable objective (unlike quitting smoking, losing weight, etc). I found hypnosis to be similar to meditation. It provided me with a sense of calm and optimism after each session. I found myself being less reactive to setbacks or flare ups in symptoms after just a few sessions. I started going to Rita's hypnosis sessions a couple of months ago. Hypnosis has always been an interest and fascination of mine, and while my hypnosis track collection over the past decade needs its own hard drive, I figured a real live hypnotherapist could help me make lifelong changes on a whole new level. "If you stick a knife nine inches into my back and pull it out three inches, that is not progress. Even if you pull it all the way out, that is not progress. Progress is healing the wound, and [you] haven't even begun to pull out the knife." -One of my favorite quotes which is also applicable to the healing world. Many of us go through life with a knife stuck in our back, and while over the years, we have gotten used to the pain, and have found ways to deal with it, the fact is, there still is a knife, along with the constant dull pain, dissatisfaction, and burden that we carry around as a result of not dealing with our deep rooted issues. We can dress it up and pretend like it's not there, or we can become self aware, take the knife out, and start to heal these wounds within. Well what's special so about hypnosis when you can sit in a chair and talk your head off to a psychiatrist for an hour, take their prescription drugs, turn into a zombie, write a check, and call it a day? This model of drugged talk therapy simply does not work. I've tried it, and it causes more destruction and feelings of hopelessness than healing. How many times have we consciously known the right thing to do, and yet something deep within us causes us to repeat the same behaviors over and over? We can consciously and intellectually talk about our problems till the the world ends, but nothing will change unless we get to the root of the problem. Hypnosis deals with the subconscious directly- it goes to the root where all of our destructive emotional and habit patterns are stored and makes changes. But just as the quality of a Zumba class depends on the instructor, the quality of hypnosis and healing depends on the hypnotherapist. When I booked my consultation, I wasn't sure what to expect. Would the hypnotist understand my issues? Would I have to hold back to avoid being judged or pretend like it was working even if it wasn't? Would this person really understand healing and how it works or would they be focused on the clock and dollar bills? In my first conversation with Rita, it was clear that I had struck gold. She is not only a hypnotherapist but also a Reiki healer as well. Someone who has a multidimensional understanding of a subject can approach a problem in many different ways, and tailor the specific method to the client. Everything she said in the consultation was authentic and in alignment with what I knew about healing. Most people don't get so lucky. She was also straightforward about expectations and said that I would have "homework" to do, since ultimately "I" am the one in the driver's seat doing the work. This week, my homework was to go out and make mistakes so I wouldn't be paralyzed from fear of the outcome and would have the courage to always take action. I can see the scene now, "My hypnotherapist told me to go out and make mistakes so that's why I'm on this date hehe" Her sessions are fluid, intuitive, and have a spontaneous quality to it. Rita takes the time to talk with you about your progress first, and then figures out what she will work on during that session. Conducting a hypnosis session is truly a talent. She usually does an induction for relaxation, and starts painting imagery and words that works on the subconscious mind. After all, the subconscious understands imagery best- the stuff dreams are made of. Have all of my 2 decade long problems disappeared as a result of 2 months of hypnosis? No. But there are definite shifts that have created adjustments in my behavior, my focus, thinking, and habits whenever I'm faced with difficult situations. And having a gifted healer like Rita to check in with on a weekly basis helps to hold me accountable for working on myself, rather than letting things slide over time. Sometimes, we we feel low, we look for other things that vibrate at the same low level. We eat junk, we gossip to a toxic person, we consume disturbing stories on the news or media... Dist. Hypnosis is a life changer. Truly unbelievable. I came to district hypnosis, after a skin spa turned me down from treatment. They said, "stop picking and come back in a few months". My face was often red and as I would get stressed, I picked. My mother had done hypnotherapy before and it was always on the back of my mind for years. After this incident with the skin spa, I decided I would find a hypnosis and try this route. A consultation is the first thing Rita offered. You come in and see if hypnosis is right for you. If it is, it can do wonders. We scheduled an appointment, and among first meeting Rita, in her very relaxing and soothing office, I felt a complete sense of ease take over me as we started to talk about why I was there. Rita had some incredible insights about life and taking control of getting rid of the habbits we dont want. But not through negativity, just a lot of positive reinforcement. Through suggestion and agreements one can really help themselves make their accomplishments. We did some tests that would lead to wether one can actually be put into a hypnotic state. For me, I felt it could. I booked a 7 session treatment plan that day. It's not cheap, but I had faith in Ritas capabilities and great vibes. I started to see her a month later, at the start of the new year. By the end of my first session I had already been switched into another direction. Her suggestions were strong, she put you in this really comfortable recliner, and off you went into the amazing tones and rhythms of her voice and background noises. I purchased a quit smoking package from Rita and I am absolutely thrilled with the results. If you are at the point where you know that you don't want to smoke, but you don't know how to quit - at least meet with her. She's very transparent about how the process works, how much depends on you, what hypnosis will and won't do. I was ready to quit, but I needed a guide. She was my guide, and I'm only sad that I won't have any more sessions with her, because I'd grown to really look forward to them. In terms of results; I went to Rita as a smoker; I'd been a smoker for 25 years. All my adult life. I wanted to quit, but I was by no means positive that I could. I am now a non-smoker. I haven't had a cigarette in nearly three months and I don't want them. I've been around them a lot in social situations and I still don't want them. I've been through a lot of stressful situations in that period and I haven't wanted them. I truly never thought I would be able to quit smoking and I'm pretty sure my family and friends agreed. I was a dedicated smoker with rituals around each cigarette and the seeming inability to enter into anything (meetings, dinners at restaurants, movies, etc.) without having a cigarette first. And lighting up was the first thing I did as soon as I got out of any of those things. It ruled my life in more ways than I can count and I told myself that I enjoyed it. I had a trip planned with a long plane ride and almost decided not to go because of the discomfort I knew would come from not being able to smoke for so long. I actually decided to go for the consultation at that point, thinking it probably wouldn't completely work, it might ease some of that discomfort the way that medications and nicotine gum had done in the past. The consultation was pretty scary and pretty interesting for me because I felt like this was my last shot at ending my smoking habit. But Rita was so straight forward and easy to talk to tat I immediately wanted to schedule my first session. I smoked 2 and a half cigarettes before I walked into my last session, practically making myself sick the way I did before long flights. If you really want to quit, go see Rita. Prior to my first visit with Rita a month ago, I'd been smoking for 35 years, since first answering the siren call at what-was-then the tender age of 15. I quit a time or two in my late teens and 20's, always returning to the habit after what were usually pretty brief respites. More recently, over the last few years, I've tried gum, patches, Chantix and vaping, none of which took for any meaningful period of time. While I was a skeptic about hypnosis, I was also increasingly serious about walking away from cigarettes once and for all - so I called Rita. From the first session, I was done. Whenever I think about smoking, I don't feel anything. I thought that, even with hypnosis, not smoking would feel like a struggle or something I was resisting, but it's not. She also provides a CD to listen to once a day and I have started to look forward to falling asleep because that's when I listen to the CD then and it's so soothing. And, if you decide to proceed, then you are already familiar with one another at your first session. At my first session, Rita and I spoke for an hour even before my hypnosis. I always thought I needed smoking to help me deal with stress or being upset, but Rita is like a therapist and we spoke about my dependency on cigarettes and she advised me how to navigate things in my life that usually make me want to smoke, including stressful situations. I also thought I needed cigarettes to unwind or to feel like I'm getting a "treat" after a long day. She suggested alternatives, which I thought didn't seem up to par to smoking, but sure enough, I am enjoying these simple things now - a nice cup of tea, a piece of gum, a quick dance around the room. I am finding such joy in things that I previously thought weren't nearly as cool as cigarettes! It might seem expensive, but it's totally worth it -- especially if you think of it in terms of saving your life!!! I have grown and learned so much about myself and others, and am really proud of myself at what I'm accomplishing. And like anything in life, you do have to work at it. But real, lasting change is effort, and one, I believe, that is worthwhile. So, you will spend some money, and you will need to make effort. I had not tried hypnosis before; and so I was under the televised illusion that it was instantaneous. For me, it was not (I am going for weight-loss); but after about 3 months, it just has started to click and I'm really pushing ahead, past the blocks that have been holding me back for years. Remember, this is about reprogramming your mind, so that is usually not fast work. But Rita is really terrific! She is so wise, compassionate, and REALLY funny! And is truly a class act. Rita cares so much about us and her work, that she even has extra general training sessions that she offers for clients on general life and relationship, stress, issues, etc. They are bonuses, to attend if you can. Not mandatory at all, but a gift and something extra to help you that is very relevant for growth, timely, fun and very helpful. All really great stuff! I was going through a rough time at work and home and saw the Groupon for District Hypnosis. I thought "What do I have to lose?" From the first session I was hooked. Rita listened to everything I said and gave me a whole new insight as to what made me feel that way. After 4 months my mind does not wander, I can sleep peacefully and I have a whole new outlook on life. Rita makes you feel at ease and after every session I left feeling rejuvenated. There is no "quacking like a duck, or barking like a dog" nothing like a "Comic Hypnotist" show. She is the real deal, down to earth and totally focused on you and your issues. It is truly a pleasure to write a genuine recommendation for Rita Leiphart of District Hypnosis in support of her effectiveness with conquering my stress and restoring my natural equilibrium.
