My knife tip was slightly broken and they took care of it for a great price. Will definitely go back. Great selection of knives as well!

District Cutlery - Knife Sharpening Near Me - Washington, DC, District of Columbia

Been so long since my beloved Global was as sharp as the day I bought it. Logan Hardware ground it to hell, and so did a ktichen shop in old town. Brought it (and my other knives) to Union Market and DC Sharp made them surgical instruments! Some of my knives have NEVER been this sharp. Highly recommended over anyone else. read more

Great experience. Dropped of my beloved Global chef knife which I have used almost daily for six years. It was expertly sharpened about thirty minutes later. I'm not sure if it was this sharp when I first got it. On top of this, my wife and I were able to walk through Union Market and have a drink while we waited. We had a text message when it was ready. He only charged $15, which I thought was more than reasonable. read more

These guys are awesome. Just did my first knife sharpening with them. Very impressed.

Excellent service!! I dropped off my chef knife and within 30 min it was done and it was razor sharp!! Super cool place and very friendly!

I never realized how dull my knives were...DC Mobile Sharpening did a fantastic job...What's more is I'm amazed at how much safer I feel by using sharp knives - they work so much better when sharp (duh)! The owner was really into doing it right - I love it when I see someone who's truly interested in providing quality. Great idea and great experience! I'm gonna have them sharpen my garden shears next! read more

DC Sharp is the place to go for knife sharpening. Gather all your knives, scissors and garden tools and get them sharpened. Chop, Chop! I will never have a dull blade again, as long as these wonderful guys are at Union Market NE. The Market is also a fun place to walk around, eat and drink. read more

I recently bought a knife here, had a ton of questions and Ryan (one of the owners) spent the time to educate me on the different types of blades and styles. Ryan helped me pick a great knife that arrived quickly and was incredibly sharp. I would highly recommend this shop! read more

Lots of at home quarantine cooking left our kitchen knives with well used dull blades. We dropped them off at District Cutlery around noon today and had them back in about 90 minutes. Wow with delight! Our dinner prep went like a charm. Carrots, celery, onion . . . all diced in beautiful, clean, little pieces ready for sauté. We are delighted. It will take us a while to wear down those sharp blades, then we will be back to up our game. Thanks to the team at District Cultery. read more

I stopped by Union Market on a Friday when I saw their stand. I came back around in the afternoon around 1:30pm with a whole block of knives for sharpening. They were nice enough to take the whole block and sharpen everything except the shears and sharpener. Because they sharpened 7 knives, they delivered my knives at home later in the evening around 7pm. I had 4 chef's knives, 2 serrated knives, and a parer done for about $100 bucks. They charge by the inch. It's more expense for serrated knives. They couldn't do the shears because of the serrations but were nice enough to be honest about the risk. Not all the knives were worth sharpening but I'd just been asking my partner where our sharpening stones were just the day before. They put on a really nice edge on everything and did a quality job. Yes, you can buy a cheap knife set for the same price. But I like the balance on some of the knives and I'm one of those nutty people that repairs and maintains stuff rather than buy new all the time. For me, this beats taking knives to G Street and waiting a week to get my knives back. read more

My grandfather's 18" butcher knife was handed down to me in rough condition. The edge of this 70 year old knife was gouged and dull. I wanted it to be cleaned and sharpened, but I didn't want to lose the patina. Ryan did an incredible job. He removed the bare minimum of the edge and then sharpened it. He kept the patina and even oiled the handle. It looks like a knife that was cared for over the years. I surprised my Mom when I brought it to Thanksgiving. She was thrilled and couldn't believe the condition of "Daddy's knife." Carving the turkey was never this easy or enjoyable. read more

District Cutlery - My grandfather's 70 year old knife before (w/ ruler) and after being sharpened. A beautiful and functional heirloom. - Knife Sharpening Near Me - Washington, DC, District of Columbia

I had my straight razor sharpened here previously and had an excellent end product. I attempted to go back recently to get my straight razor sharpened; however, I was abruptly and rudely told they no longer sharpen straight razors because "they are a pain in the ass." I had much higher expectations for customer service than this. Another friend told me they flat out refused to sharpened his Japanese cutlery. I will be seeking a new sharpening vendor. read more

I was really excited to find out about this business and see that the reviews were so good. My experience turned out middling but it would not stop me from recommending the place. I would just advise being very clear on expectations. I recently brought my straight razor in for sharpening, here are the highlights: The good: excellent work on the razor, super sharp when I got it back and no damage or scratches to any part of it or the leather case, a great shaving edge handled by obviously talented hands. The guys are all really friendly as well. Very quick response to email inquiry. Nice to drop off and enjoy happy hour at the market. Quicker than mailing it out from drop off to pickup times. The less than stellar: I emailed asking if they handle razors and got a reply almost immediately saying yes, bring it in, but no note about any service difference for a razor vs. Knives. I thought it would be great to be able to have the razor back quickly/in an hour and at the affordable rates advertised on their website, but all of that doesn't pertain to razors apparently. When I finally got out there (an hour metro trip and short, hot walk from Arlington with wife and baby) the guy at the counter took the razor and told me to expect a call in a couple of days. My hopeful quick experience already tossed out I left the razor anyway since I wanted it honed. After a few days and no call I called them a couple times until I reached someone and got confirmation for a pickup, and was told it had't needed that much work. I metro'd out there again with wife and baby (another hour each way) and on picking it up was told that it cost 30 bucks. That is a big difference from the knife rates so I asked why and was told that razors take a lot of work to sharpen. That is the opposite of what I was told about my razor over the phone. The rate and time frame really aren't unreasonable, but I was disappointed none of it was communicated. Given that it is a big time investment to get there and back twice from Arlington I doubt I will use the service again, but if you live closer, drive, or regularly go to market I would recommend their sharpening skills and friendliness. Just make sure you get clarity on what to expect. read more

Best selection of chef knives in DC and one of the best on the East Coast. Excellent selection of top Japanese and custom-made US knives. Ryan and Derrick, the owners, are great guys and do a terrifc job sharpening knives or showing you what to buy. It's best to learn how to sharpen your own, as I do, but they will restore any knife to new condition. Just don't expect German knives to get as sharp as Japanese ones. It's a small shop, so don't expect uniform service or communication. But most times they can sharpen a knife while you shop or eat. read more

Take my review with a grain of salt. I have no prior experience with knife sharpeners so I don't know what comparative features to look for. That said, DC Sharp seemed to do a great job. I brought ten knives in for sharpening: three chefs knives, three paring knives, and four serrated blades. They finished all ten in about two hours, including fixing broken points on three knives. The total was about $150, which isn't cheap but is hardly a rip-off either. Most of these knives were dull, one to the point of being almost unusable, when I brought them in. Now the edge easily catches anything I need to cut through (just chopped a whole assortment of vegetables this morning). I could easily feel this on my finger when I unwrapped them, and the blades looked visibly sharper. Three other minor things I liked: [1] Their computer system, which I think is used throughout union market, is all electronic. It keeps the cardholder name so after the first time it will email a receipt automatically. No paper. [2] They text you when the knives are ready. [3] The man who took my knives looked them over very carefully when I brought them in, and pointed out exactly what needed to be fixed. Maybe that's standard practice, but I like that kind of individual attention with any merchant. read more

Great service. I dropped off my Knives when i first got to Union Market then picked them up after looking around and eating at the market about an 1 1/2 later. Got home and knives are SUPER sharp, love it. read more

These guys are extremely knowledgeable, kind, and skilled. I brought 4 knives to sharpen (2 chefs and 2 serrated) and ended up walking out with a 5th (boning knife) that I love. If you value your cutlery, or are curious about Japanese knives - this is the best place I've been to and the team is great. Knives are super sharp, we were treated well, and the customer service and experience was awesome. read more

I've had my knives for 10 years and they were in serious need of sharpening. DC Sharp did a great job, especially with a chefs knife that I had put in the dishwasher one too many times. I feel like I have a new set of knives again! read more

Thanks to WaPo Express for the article, I used the drop-off service at the Annie's Ace Hardware on Upshur. Quick turnaround, pricier than the service I've used previously $36 for my 8" chef's knife, my 6" "utility" knife and my 3" pairing knife but we'll see how long they last between services. That being said, they are *super* sharp, sharp enough that I could SEE how much sharper they were when I unpacked them. Awesome! Will definitely use again :) read more

what a great addition to DC. I have a bunch of top of the line german knives that hold an edge incredibly well. I had a house guest put three of them through the dishwasher- a no no for anything you want to keep sharp. Well no matter how long i used the steel on them i could not bring them back. I have a sharpening stone that was given to me a long time ago but if you use it wrong you can damage the knife beyond repair so i have always been scared to use it. I dropped off the knives with these guys and they perfectly sharpened them. One had been dropped into the gabage disposal and was severly nicked and damaged. Now its perfect! bring your blades to these guys. reasonable and reliable and just nice guys who love high quality knives. read more

Wow! You really don't know what you are missing until you get your knives sharpened professionally. Thanks guys!!!

Wow, I can't believe how sharp my knife is now! Cutting meat was like slicing through butter. I think it's actually sharper now then when I bought it. read more

Very good sharpening job, and friendly guys to boot. I haven't seen their main location at Union Market, but they set up shop at Weygandt Wines in Cleveland Park on Tuesday afternoons. They sharpened while i waited. Will go back. read more

I went back yesterday & had a few of my blades resharpen & left it for a few hours came back to find them scary razor sharp, even sharper then they came out of the box! These guys once again did their magic & made a piece of steel into a precise slicing tool as it was meant to be. read more

Super nice service! I brought in a few knives to be sharpened and they did a great job. Yay!

These guys were great. Derek was very personable when I talked to him on the phone earlier in the week and then via email to set up a time to come down and have our very dull knives sharpened. Ryan was expecting my arrival when I came into Union Market and got to work on my knives right away. 5 large and 2 small knives took 1.5 hours, as Derek said they would. Plus, Ryan was happy to talk and give me pointers on how I can keep them sharp. They both clearly love what they are doing and take a lot of pride in their work. The knives are SHARP! We had our first casualty when my wife hit her knuckle making salad that night, but we are not complaining! read more

The story goes, I was getting my knives sharpened by another company, but every time I got them back they didn't seem very sharp. The company was in walking distance and only charged $5-$8 per knife, but after a couple visits I wanted a second opinion. There aren't alot of choices when it comes to knife sharpening in the Nova/D.C. area. But I took the metro from Ballston to D.C. hoping they could shed some light on my issue. I told him my story and asked what he thought. The tall gentlemen with the glasses could tell after a quick inspection that the other guy had completely missed the angle on one knife and had only sharpened one side of the second knife. I finally had my answer. $20 a knife is to me very expensive, esp. when 2 or more knives need sharpening. You'll ultimately have to choose which knifes are worth sharpening. Also, I didn't like leaving my knives there, because I'd have to take a second metro trip from Ballston to D.C.. Now that its all over with, and I'm at home with my knives, I'm very happy I took my knives to D.C. Sharp, My two pocket knives are razor sharp, because they were sharpened correctly, and I have the peace of mind knowing that these knives are as sharp as their gonna get. Will return some day, VG-10 and CTS-XHP should hold their edge for a long time. Thank you D.C. sharp. 5 stars. read more

Dropped off at Union Market, and they returned very sharp knives to our house a few days later. It was a little pricier than some other knife sharpening options, but home delivery and good service made it worth it for us. read more

These guys certainly know what they are doing, I was fooled into thinking that the chefs choice sharpener from Sur la Table that I was talked into buying sharpened my knives...WRONG. We received some very nice knives for our wedding over 10 years ago and we have been 'maintaining' them with the chefs choice sharpener and the steel that comes with the set. Turns out the steel is not for sharpening either. After a very quick stop at DC Sharpening these knives are sharper than they come from the factory. The guys were very helpful despite being busy and explained everything from the type of steel of the knives, to why the blades of a Japanese style and European style blade are different. Also, if you are a cook or love fine kitchen instruments. They have a selection of one off knives that are more work or art than cutting instruments. I have been dreaming of a boning knife I saw from a small artisan in Brooklyn that crafts knives. read more

They do it right, they do it fast, and they do it for any knife, cheap or expensive. I used to be a professional chef, though I'm not anymore. I've tried a lot of professional knife sharpeners, and, unhappy with the results, learned how to do it myself. They do it better than I can. For about $1 per inch of knife, that's a great deal. read more

Fantastic company. They sharpened my knives and honed them to be good as new. The guys working there even told me some of my knives weren't worth the money to sharpen. That meant they chose to advise me not to use their services rather than make money. I really appreciate service like that! read more

Hurray for DC Mobile Sharpening! My knives have never been so happy. They were sharpened right before Thanksgiving , I was given a loaner for the 2 days that I was knife-less. My bread knife had to be completely redone and now it's wonderful. Great job! read more

These guys are great. I dropped off my knives at Union Market and came back a few hours later and they were done. They basically transformed one of my cheapest, least used knives into my new favorite. I did notice that two of the knives were not sharpened satisfactorily. I sent off a quick e-mail and immediately got back an apology and offer to pick them up at my home for a another round of sharpening. They picked them up promptly, resharpened them, dropped them back off next day, and even added a gift certificate for future use which was unexpected. The resharpened knives are great. I definitely trust them with my knives and appreciate their great customer service. read more
