The place is very nice beautiful bar cool layout well designed . They have good drink menu and selection of beers. I wasn't crazy about their old fashion . But the service was good they were open on Christmas ever . But the food fell flat . I had high hopes the menu looked realy good but while my steak was well cooked it had zero seasoning . The mash and salad were realy good. My wife had a shrimp and pasta dish it was okay but not great .

Cacio e Pepe with Cajun Shrimp - A white plate contains a serving of creamy pasta with orecchiette and shrimp, garnished with chopped herbs. The dish appears to be a seafood pasta, possibly with a white sauce, presented in a restaurant setting. The background shows a gray table surface and part of another dish.

I visited The District CR in downtown Cedar Rapids during a recent business trip and had an overall enjoyable experience. First impressions were a bit confusing--the entrance makes you feel like you're walking into an office building. There's a door to the right with signage for what seems to be a sister bar that's only open on limited nights, but the actual restaurant is straight back. Once inside, the space is large and open, with plenty of room between tables and a sizable bar area. I sat at the bar and learned about their Whiskey Wednesday specials, which included several types of Old Fashioneds and whiskey flights. While it sounded intriguing, I opted not to partake. They also offer daily drink special themes. The menu is eclectic, with a mix of Cajun, Italian, and American fare. I went with the Cacio e Pepe with Elephant Ear (Orcchiette) pasta, and added shrimp along with a half wedge salad as a premium side. The pasta itself was delicious--perfectly cooked with a rich, peppery flavor. However, I wish the server had mentioned that the shrimp was Cajun-seasoned. While great on its own, it slightly overpowered the pasta. The wedge salad was a bit of a letdown--the lettuce was watery, which diluted the overall flavor. The dish also came with garlic bread, which was yummy. Service was outstanding--attentive, friendly, and efficient. Unfortunately, it was hard to get a real read on the restaurant's vibe because it was pretty empty on a Wednesday night.

Shug's Creole Shrimp Salad - A salad featuring mixed greens, cooked shrimp, and sliced boiled egg is presented on a white plate. The salad includes various leafy greens, shredded carrots, and other vegetables, with a small square dish of dressing placed on the side. The image shows a person's hands holding the plate, with a neutral-colored table surface in the background.

A nice place with plenty of mood lighting, dark-stained wood and up/downstairs seating. Our waitress was friendly and efficient. My friends ordered, wine and draft beer, I ordered a fountain root beer (I would've rather had an IBC, Mill Creek or Jones). We had NOLA Hot Honey Taters for an appetizer. Honey drizzled over the top of fried sweet potato squares with a spicy dipping sauce. They were okay but I prefer my cooked/fried veggies to not have a vegetable "snap" to them, these didn't quite have that snap but they were too firm for my preference. The flavor was good though. Two of my friends had Zopa Toscana. Which was Italian vegetable soup, which reminded them of wedding soup a little bit. Rustic cut veggies but the potatoes were cut too large and weren't fully cooked compared to the other vegetables. Both of my friends picked the larger potatoes out and ate the rest. Again the flavor was good, temperature was not, it was just north of warm. Portion sizes were good and the flavor was good. As is a theme with almost all our food was the temperature was not hot. The food tasted fresh but it just wasn't hot enough temp-wise. One of us had Double Down Sausage Bowl which he thoroughly enjoyed. Another had the Muffuletta - New Orleans Classic w/ a twist with double meat, he enjoyed it and it was good. Another had the Shug's Creole Salad which she liked. I had the Cacio e Pepe and I added chicken, given the creole lean to the menu I expected blackened chicken but it was only grilled chicken. The garlic bread was good but my side of cheesy grits was more formed than I expected. The flavor was good but there was no gooey factor that you'd expect with cheesy grits. They came out still formed of the scoop they used to plate them, so not even as moist as regular grits. Overall a positive experience. The flavor of the food was good but the temperature of the food was not. I will return and give them another shot as the flavor was good enough to try them again.

A plate of cooked spaghetti topped with tomato sauce and garnished with chopped herbs is placed on a dark table. A piece of garlic bread is positioned behind the pasta. In the background, there are two glasses of drinks with lime wedges, a water bottle, and a small decorative light. The setting appears to be a restaurant or dining area with dim lighting.

Always a delightful experience when I come to The District CR. The food is always so delicious and hits the spot every time! I've had the grilled chicken sandwich, the pork tenderloin, the wagyu burger, and the sidewinder fries are sooooo crispy and fluffy at the same time! The drinks and desserts are also fire! I've gotten the bananas foster multiple times. Highly recommend going here!

What a great place! This could be my new favorite place in CR. The food was great. The flavors of the sauce on the burger was out of this world. The location used to be a brewery. Lots of seating and an area you can reserve for small events. , The wait staff are helpful and prompt. The price was more than fair for the portions you get. We split the grits and wagyu burger and fries. We also had 2 of the old fashioned's and a espresso Martini. Parking is not great, downtown is tricky, but......Definitely going to return.

Downtown CR needs an upper scale casual restaurant. The staff of amazing, menu is simple but the food is high quality. High end drinks and great atmosphere! Steve the bar tender is great and Amanda and Deseree' have something really great in the making!

Margarita flatbread. - A flatbread pizza topped with cherry tomatoes, fresh basil, and drizzled with white and dark sauces is placed on a metal tray lined with parchment paper. The table has a glass of water, a wine glass, a water glass with a straw, a salt shaker, a pepper shaker, and a candle holder. The setting appears to be a restaurant dining area.

Locally owned restaurant with a unique menu and excellent food. Service was outstanding -- server was prompt, friendly and helpful. Nice ambiance.

Bbq bourbon burger was delicious. Tried a bite of my wife's flatbread and that was even better. I could eat just the crust and be happy.

There are some small tables on this side also. On the other side is a small room with just tables for dining. We went in for dinner so we sat on the dining side. The service was hit and miss. We sat there for a good 10 minutes before anyone came to say hello. After that there were multiple people who came by to take our order or fill our water glasses. We ordered a couple drinks and we both enjoyed those, they were made very well. For food. we ordered Fettuccine Alfredo with chicken and we felt it was a little on the bland side, no big flavor popping out at us. I ordered the Italian sausage Diavolo with shrimp. This had a good flavor and the shrimp complimented it well. Both were good sized portions, I took home more than half of the Diavolo pasta but we felt we would not eat the Alfredo. I did not feel we received the value for the prices we paid. I don't expect to be back for dinner, we probably will for drinks some time though.

Not to mention that one of our dining companions had a 4 hour dinner, the last time he was there. Mind you, this was NOT their intent. Back to the review.....we were seated right away (we had reservations). But after that things took a turn. We were told by our waitress that she'd "be right back". After 40 mins another waitress asked if we wanted drinks. Took our drink order and then we waited another 20 minutes for our drinks to come. An hour to just get a drink?!?!? Ordered our meals and 3 out of 4 got the lasagna. HUGE portions but not hot....Luke warm at best. Like I said, what is happening to this place?!?!?! It was a Friday night and honestly not very busy. Not sure if they're short on help or just trying to "coast" on their reputation. Regardless, there will be some time that passes before either couple decides to roll the dice here again. Hopefully they step up their game so I can call this place my "never disappoint" place again!!!

I love that they constantly rotate their pizza of the week. Even when I'm hesitant because it's something I've never tried before, I find myself excited and eager to go for it--because everything here is consistently a 10. After experiences like this, it's hard not to trust every specialty pizza they put out. Our server, Lexi, was absolutely on point--friendly, so personable . They also let you sample any beer you're curious about, which I really appreciate. I tried the Cotton Candy beer, and it was over-the-moon good. I'm not a big beer drinker at all, and I honestly couldn't believe it was beer. I also got to sample the drinks my party ordered--wow. Every visit, there are new beers on tap. You might miss one and wish it was still around, but the ever-rotating selection is just another reason this place is such a delight. As for the food, I took a leap of faith with the Sriracha BLT pizza. I was very hesitant, but I threw caution to the wind--and I'm so glad I did. It was absolutely fabulous. Need Pizza continues to impress on every level, and I can't wait to come back again.

My margarita had a good flavor but I tasted no tequila or triple sec in it, I ordered a second one, same thing. We ordered food as well, my friend ordered a quesadilla which looked good and was good according to him. I ordered a lasagna and was not impressed - the temperature was slightly less than the surface of the sun, the marinara sauce had too much sugar in it (like Filipino spaghetti sauce), the portion size was small (I ate again later that night), and for it being lasagna, it had one lasagna noodle in it. I've had a similar dish in Napa, CA with similar results. I wasn't impressed, not in Napa, not here. Not sure where they got their lasagna recipe from but it needs to go back and stay there. The "cheese bread" on the side was disappointing as well. It was essentially dry French bread with pepperjack cheese melted on it. If you're going to do that, at least put some butter on it and grill it, otherwise it's a bland, tasteless side mess, which it was. I usually have a mixed drink and their pizza and have yet to be disappointed, so next time, that's what I'll do. Avoid the lasagna or whatever it is they call lasagna. As far as the bar itself is concerned? I love the retro look and feel of the place, always have, always will. This time though, there were A LOT of kids there - must've had some sort of special going on. It wasn't loud or obnoxious or kids running everywhere while we there, I've just never seen that many kids there before. No biggie.
