We took a family 6 hour charter with Captain Troy, and the experience was fantastic. Captain Troy and deckhand Sam are absolute professionals. We felt like VIPs on the trip. Everything from the safety briefing to hopping from spot to spot exceeded my expectations. It was one of the coolest things we have ever done, and my kids loved it. The boat was clean and comfortable, and Troy and Sam went above and beyond for the experience. Captain Troy took us to a series of spots that were just teeming with fish. The fish were hitting our baits within seconds, and we were landing beautiful fish almost too quickly for Sam to get them off the lines. I personally caught the biggest fish of my life, and our group hit our limit on Red Snapper with time to spare. If you are looking for a fishing charter out of Orange Beach, I can't imagine a better option that Distraction Charters. read more

My wife, son, and I had a fantastic deep sea fishing day with Captain Troy and mate Sam. They were super friendly and helpful, and the boat was very clean. We caught our limit and came home with a cooler full of Red Snapper filets. We're already recommending them to friends and planning our next trip. Truly memorable--wish I could give more than 5 stars! read more

Literally just got off the boat and had to hop on here to leave a shining review. We had the best time with Captain Troy and his first mate JT. Not only were they knowledgeable about fishing, but they were genuine, friendly people. We enjoyed laughing and joking with them along with fishing. Troy knee right where the fish were, all 6 of us caught at least 1 keeper (and many more that were too small). I really appreciated Troy's conservation approach to fishing and it was apparent he knows what he is doing as a fisherman. The boat was sparkling clean, the water was beautiful, and the people were friendly. There was nothing not to love!! If you go to Orange Beach this is the place to go!!! read more

Grandparents and three grandsons Chartered fishing trip. From the very start, I knew Captain Troy would be the perfect Charter for us and our three grandsons. Captain Troy let us know that the day we booked, had predicted winds of 22 knots and offered an optional day. My husband and I had been on Charters before that didn't care about the weather, they just wanted the money. We agreed on the optional date and it was perfect. Captain Troy and 1st mate Sam were awesome, they made it such a wonderful experience for our grandsons and memories we will always share together. read more

You can't find a better match than Troy. From the time we texted, I let him know it was bachelor party, all we want is a good time and a experience to take home. From the jump, Troy made sure his trip matched up with our idea for a unique remembrance for the bachelor party crew. We caught a huge snapper and had it cooked for dinner. The thing that stuck out to us most was that Troy did everything he could have possibly done to make the trip as successful as possible. A lot of trips I have taken, the capt will stay at one spot all day to save cost on fuel... NOT TROY! he can't make them bite but he's the type of guy that would rather lose profit to make sure tried his hardest to give you the best chance and time possible. Also, gotta get some of that Heifer Dust! Best seasoning around. If you plan on flying home with some, just fyi- security will take about 10 mins to go thru. read more

I can not recommend Distraction Charters Highly enough. Captain Troy and his deck hand Corey made our day so enjoyable while educating us on the finer points of deep sea fishing. There were four of us and the trip was customized to what we hoped to get out of it. Captain Troy let us sit up with him during the trip and kept us laughing the entire time. It was a great day and truly the highlight of our trip! read more

Distraction Charter's Tag Line should be "For the Time of Your Life." That's exactly what I had yesterday on the Distraction!! From the moment you board this beautiful, super clean boat, your safety, comfort, fun and fish becomes the focus. Captain Troy and Deck hand Jacob are knowledgeable, organized, extremely hardworking, and put your fishing fun first and foremost. They chilled our waters/Gatorades, let us ride up where Capt. Troy drives the boat (in comfy A/C) where you get a spectacular view, relax in the air conditioned cabin below, or sit "out back" where the fishing happens. Best friend (BF) and I opted for the 6 hour trip with the goal to get our limit of red snapper. I was concerned that that the duration may be too long. It wasn't. I highly recommend the 6 hour trip - it gets you out to where the best fish are! It was super-smooth sailing to the first location to "drop bait" and we did. Within 90 seconds both of us had our first catch! It was unbelievable - beautiful red snapper! Their super-lightweight rods/reels were easy to "Learn" and easy to use. BF and I lost count of the fish we caught somewhere around 24. Not being regular fisher people, had these rod/reels been heavy, we probably would have pooped out and not caught as many fish. Later, we got two trigger fish and a mackerel. My personal biggest thrill was having sharks on the line two separate times, both of which broke the line and "got away." Jacob was a pro at quickly re baiting, replacing hooks when the fish would take the hooks, and preparing the rods for the next type of fish we would go for. He ensured we had lines in the water, fishing, at every opportunity. It was delightful to see dolphin swim close to the boat and BF saw sea turtles, but I missed that. Capt. Troy is an established expert in boating and running a smooth organization. Everything about Distraction is top notch. The marina is beautiful and has a nice gift shop where you can purchase any last minute items you may need. Jacob cleaned all our fish upon returning to the marina and Capt. Troy referred us to several restaurants where they prepare the fish for us. The "girls" caught dinner and we had a lovely, fresh caught meal served "family style" nearby, with plenty to bring home! BF who has taken her family on many "party boat cruises" and owns her own ski boat vowed to book Distraction for her family, since it eclipsed the party boat experience in every way. Do try Distraction Charters! The booking is easy, via web site or phone Capt. Troy is responsive, ready to address any questions/concerns you may have, or just talk about deep sea fishing. You truly will have the time of your life! read more

Highly Recommend !!! Mom with 5 older tweens- Captain Troy and his first mate JT were most awesome. They made it fun for the guys and easy on mom. Everything we needed for an amazing day. Location is easy to get too from Orange Beach or Gulf Shores. The price was right for a great day of fishing. They were super polite, quick to return calls and emails, provided southern hospitality and knowledge of fishing. We caught so many fish. They knew exactly where to go... These were spring break memories I will never forget read more

Captain Troy and Corey were fantastic again this year. We plan to make them a part of our annual Father's Day fishing trip as long as they allow us! We had an amazing, memory-making, 6-hour trip with Distraction Charters today! My husband, Nick, and I were treating our parents to a first time deep sea fishing adventure. Captain Troy and deckhand, JT, were friendly, fun, and made us feel like family. We originally had the trip planned for yesterday, but due to stormy weather we had to postpone. Captain Troy kept us informed and gave us several options to reschedule. Safety, comfort, and our overall experience was his top priority. We were excited to go out the following morning. We were greeted with smiling faces and a clean, well maintained vessel. It has a comfortable, air conditioned cabin, which was a great retreat from the heat. While trolling, we caught a king mackerel that made for a delicious dinner. You definitely have to try the heifer dust! Then we went out for some fun catch-and-release due to the season. We caught red snapper and cobia, saw dolphins, a leatherback turtle, and a couple of bull sharks. Distraction Charters is definitely a family friendly charter. They were great with making sure my parents, whom have slight mobility issues, and experienced a little seasickness, were comfortable, included, and having a wonderful trip. Young or old, everyone will have a great time! We will be booking with them in the future and if you want a personalized family-friendly trip, you should too! Thank you again Captain Troy & JT! read more

What a fantastic trip! My first time deep sea fishing and it couldn't have been better! Captain Troy & Steve were a great team that gave plenty of guidance but let you have the experience. They also take awesome care of you with A/C, plenty of seats, water, all the fishing supplies, knowledge, laughs, photos AND OF COURSE CATCHING FISH!!! (We caught exactly what we wanted 10 fish each over 16lbs.. Captain Troy knew where to fish) If you are around the Gulf Shores and looking for a good time no matter the age of people you are with check this out! read more

I've been deep sea fishing in the Dominican Republic and Oceanside, California. Both trips had horrible Captains and Deck Hands. We flew from San Diego California to Orange Beach, Alabama to try out Distraction Charters because my Father-in-law highly recommended them. Form the first moment meeting Captain Troy he had us all laughing and getting excited about fishing the Gulf. He and his deck hand Stephen were professional, helpful and made good conversation. I am not a seasoned fisherman but with the help of the crew I was fighting and pulling in Red Snapper all day. The sea was a little rough but Captain Troy kept the boat centered over the fishing holes so that we could enjoy our time. On our way in I pulled in a King Mackerel that gave me a great fight and honestly made me look forward to another deep sea fishing trip. When we docked, the deck hand cleaned and filleted our catch and packed it on ice. Also Captain Troy gave us a DVD video of our entire trip that was being filmed from an camera over looking the back of the boat for free. Along with pictures he posted on his facebook page, we have great documentation of our trip. I highly recommend Distraction Charters for your next deep sea fishing trip on the Gulf. read more

We've barely even gotten off the boat, and I'm jumping on Yelp to say this trip far exceeded our every expectation. Troy and Cory were more than patient with our two sons, they were enthusiastic and it fueled the boys to be excited too. Although there's no way to guarantee how the fish will bite, Troy seemed to find good spots for us where we no sooner got bait in the water until something was biting. On top of that, I was impressed with Troy's dedication to eco friendly fishing and conservation mindset. We did catch and release, and it's a day our kids will never forget. read more

We did some research looking for a charter boat to take six of us out fishing before deciding on Distraction. I was very pleased with our choice. We were warmly met by Captain Troy, his college age son and a very helpful deck hand. Troy showed us the boat (very spacious and clean) before explaining his safety procedures. After an enjoyable ride out to the reef, with amazing views of the coast, we commenced to fish. Our group consisted of rookie-knowledgable fishermen, so Stephen, the deck hand, showed everyone how the custom fishing gear worked ( very nice - well cared for equipment) My bait wasn't in the water before one of our party shouted out "I have one" which turned out to be a large 12+ pound Red Snapper - one of many. Troy took pictures of each one of us holding up our "trophies" as well as group photos. While I chatted with him on the way back to the dock, he burned a CD of the pictures as well as a DVD of our entire fishing experience. I whole-heartedly recommend Distraction to anyone looking for a memorable family fishing trip. read more

The best! My family had an absolutely superb 6 hour fishing trip with Captain Troy and Corey. They made us feel immediately at ease and took great care of us from beginning to end. I believe my kids wanted Captain Troy to come home with us when we left; he and Corey felt like new members of the family. We caught our limit, had loads of fun and even sang songs! Went out on a fantastic fishing day on the Distraction with T-Roy (Troy :) and his first-class mate, J.T. yesterday!! We had such a great time - they made sure of it!! First of all, the conditions were perfect and thanks to Troy being so knowledgeable - as well as flexible - we were able to take full advantage of that! The Distraction was immaculate and so very well maintained - she was a true beauty! Troy knew exactly where the hot spots were and we caught tons of fish!! All the while, J.T. kept our hooks baited, lines straight, and putting the keeper fish on ice! AND at the end of the day, J.T. cleaned all of our fish and filleted them too! It was truly a perfect fishing day and we can't wait to do it again! Thank you Troy and J.T.! read more

Great day fishing with the family! Mom, Dad, four children. Captain Troy put us over the fish, and deck hand JT helped us get em in the boat. The boat and fishing equipment was clean, modern and well maintained. There were plenty of rods available so we could keep presenting bait to fish while they were biting. We also had a dolphin fish alongside the boat with us. We decided to keep only enough to feed a hungry family of six, the rest we safely returned to the ocean as we caught them. JT expertly filleted Snapper, Spanish Mackerel and King Mackerel at the end of a beautiful day of fishing. I highly recommend Distraction Fishing Charter in Orange Beach Alabama. We will definitely book in advance of our next vacation here. read more

An Excellent fishing experience. Capt. Troy and Corey (1st Mate) did and excellent job taking our family out to catch fish, get educated on the environment and most of all, have FUN!!! My wife and I have been on fishing trips before, but this was the 1st time for our sons. After the 1st stop, we dropped lines, and had fish on 1st cast. Caught plenty on our trip, but only decided to keep what we would eat for a late lunch. Brought fish to marina, Corey cleaned and bagged. We brought the fillets to the local restaurant, and they cooked up a perfect meal. Very friendly and a perfect choice for any family of 6 or less! Look forward to booking again next year. Thank you! read more

So to start off, 2 couples attended distraction charters. To book, it was a piece of cake and Mr Troy contacts you directly. He makes it a breeze. The morning of the trip we made our way to the beautiful orange beach marina, which is packed full of cute restaurants and nautical stores. We began our 5 hr fishing trip with a safety briefing and meet and greet with our deck hand JT, which was absolutely perfect (He is so quick cleaning fish). The boat is stunning and well kept plus there is AC. Once we got to the fishing spots, everything was set up and ready to fish. From the time we put the hook into the water, it was non-stop reeling and catching. Just fantastic. My group of four can not stop talking about the blessing Mr Troy and JT is to us. We will forever book our future trips on distraction charters. I can not stress enough to please choose Mr Troy and support your local businesses. read more

Troy (aka T-Roy aka Roy) and Corey made the day my family and I spent on Distraction charters our absolute favorite of the trip! Moreover we were traveling with my 4.5 year old niece, and I can't imagine how they could have made the day anymore fun for a little one who couldn't physically partake in the fishing. We brought home a bunch of amazing fish which we enjoyed for the remainder of our trip. Absolutely wonderful! read more

Amazing! I grew up deep sea fishing. My dad would bring me down from Columbus, GA to the gulf starting when I was just 8 years old. We'd push away from the dock at 2 AM, cruse out for 4 hours, fish for 4 hours, and cruse back for 4 hours. Now, here we are 50+ years later and I'm taking my adult children and grand children on similar deep-sea fishing adventures. A pretty cool tradition. Allowing Capt. Troy to continue our family tradition was a great decision. We had a party of six this past Wednesday (9/21/16) , which included my 5 year-old granddaughter. Capt. Troy and his ever-helpful and courteous deck-hand Corey, were both awesome! We went on a six-hour fishing trip and caught fish at every stop. The last stop, which was the farthest out from shore, produced some very challenging fish. We caught red snapper, amber-jack, and trigger fish. While we landed plenty of fish, Capt. Troy made the experience more about our family, and especially about making sure our 5 year-old, first-time deep-sea-fisherman granddaughter had the best experience ever! I highly recommend Capt. Troy and Distraction Charters for a family-oriented, fun time, deep sea fishing adventure. read more

Couldn't have asked for a better charter to go out on. Captain Troy made sure we all caught something we could keep. Captain Troy is a knowable and entertaining Christian man. His prime objective is to make sure you catch fish and have fun in the process. He is attentive to detail and willing to answer questions without tiring. His deckhand is also 1st rate and helpful to the point of ensuring that you catch fish and enjoy yourself. The experience is kid friendly and it's obvious that they love children. We will charter with Captain Troy every time and recommend him with highest esteem. read more

Would recommend to any family. Troy and Stephen are great. Both very professional and family friendly. Troy genuinely cares about his guests and asks upfront your expectations of the trip to ensure that he can make everything satisfactory. We went fishing the beginning of snapper season and took home the best of the best. Really enjoyed the company of both guys and they were helpful with teaching us how to fish. A lot of first time fishers on the trip and everything went without a problem. Would recommend to any family looking for an enjoyable day with some kind, fun people. read more

Captain Troy and his "first mate" Steven were absolutely great at giving us the best deep sea fishing trip we could've asked for. My two sisters, dad, two friends and I went on our Alabama beach trip last week and decided to book a fishing trip with the Distraction Charters...and it was a dream. Beautiful weather, beautiful fish and good people! Every spot we went to we always had at least two of us with fish on the line. We caught all kinds of fish and all different sizes! It was such a good time. The Distraction is such a nice boat with powerful air conditioning and comfy big seats. It was a great little space to get out of the heat for a while! I'll never forget this fishing trip and how much fun we all had catching so many fish! Of course we only kept what was in season and the right size, which still ended up being plenty for us to eat that night and the next! By the end of the trip we all had tired arms and Troy and Steven were our new best friends in the Alabama area. I would definitely recommend scheduling a time to take a trip with Troy and Steven! They're amazing at what they do and will always make sure you are happy and having a fun time. read more

Captain Troy and Corey (first mate ) are great. True professionals. 6 star charter and the best charter I've had on the Gulf.

My family chartered a 1/2 day trip with Distraction Charters and we couldn't have been more satisfied. Captain Troy was great with our teenage boys and helped explain how he came to be a charter boat captain (and even let my son drive his boat!). We caught fish at every spot he took us to and even landed a monster 23lb red snapper! I would highly recommend Distraction Charter to any family looking for a perfect day of fishing! read more

My family had a fantastic time with Distraction Charters! Troy, the owner & captain, couldn't have been friendlier or nicer, happy to share his knowledge and stories. I was a bit squeamish putting the bait fish on, but they helped me through it and by the end of the day I was a pro! Our 2 kids (17 & 19) were not excited about this forced family fun, but ended up having a great time and said it was the best part of our trip. We booked directly through them so did not pay any extra to fisher booker.com, all our money went to this local family owned business, which is important to us. I would highly recommend Captain Troy and Distraction Charters. It was a wonderful experience for our family. With the exception of my husband, my kids (16 & 20) and I had never gone deep sea fishing before. In the initial meeting, Captain Troy told us that the trip was about us and what we wanted and he delivered on that promise! Since we wanted to bring home some fish, he made sure we caught 5 King Mackerels before going further out to catch and release red snappers, which were sadly out of season. Stephen and Captain Troy did a great job quickly teaching us how to fish, even telling us how long to drop our lines to ensure maximum success. Our 16-year-old daughter wasn't too thrilled initially about fishing or handling fish, but by the end of the trip she was baiting her own hook and proudly holding up the fish she caught for photos. Both she and our son thanked us for such a great experience, but the real credit goes to Captain Troy and Stephen. At the end of our trip, Captain Troy presented us with a video and pictures from our outing. The video is amazingly clear and vivid. The photos and video are a great way to remember the highlights of our fun adventure. Distraction Charters is a class act operation and provides an exceptional family experience. It was the highlight of our family vacation. read more

First off, Captian Troy is hands down the best Captian if any deep sea fishing trip I've ever been on. Deck hand Stephen was awesome as well. I've been on many trips, but I can honestly say I haven't enjoyed one any better than I did on the Distraction. I wanted to take my Dad, my Brother and Brother -n-Law out for Father's Day and I looked through many sights. The reviews for Distraction were unbelievable. Let me tell you they are believable. Captian Troy is focused on you catching fish, but his main focus is your experience while on his boat and I'll say he does and outstanding job there. He made my Dad's day joking with him, playing around and just making everyone very comfortable. Some Captians don't want to be bothered. Not Captian Troy. He is up close and personal and goes out of his way to put you on the good fish and make your trip one to remember. Thanks Captian Troy for the best Father's Day gift I have ever give my Dad. He'll never forget fighting that 10lb plus Snapper while you were right beside him cheering him on. GREAT DAY!!!!! read more

Best fishing trip ever according to our 4 boys! We went on the 6 hour morning trip today and it was amazing! Captain Troy is a fantastic host and made us all feel so welcome. The boys took turns riding up with him and he answered countless questions. Corey was a perfect deck mate and helped us all so much. We are all novice fishermen and we had no trouble at all with the equipment or keeping our lines in the water with Corey's help. Both were so knowledgeable about where to find fish, the different species and all the questions we could come up with. This group is so family friendly and we would highly recommend this experience!!! We would love to come back and do this again! read more

What a great way to spend the day! FISHING with Capt Troy and deckhand Corey! Originally, booked the day fishing for my husband, sons and grandsons and last minute decided I would like to come along and enjoy watching the boys doing some fishing. Much to my surprise, I threw in a line as well and managed to pull out a fish. The highlight for me was the dolphins I must confess. There were a herd of 5-6 dolphins around the boat at one point. They are such amazing animals and I think they like Capt. Troy. I have nicked named Captain Troy the "Fish Whisperer" if you get the chance to charter with him you will know why that's his nickname for me. Book early! You do not want to miss the opportunity to go fishing with Capt. Troy and deckhand Corey. I must mention that although fishing is the reason we originally wanted to go on the charter. We quickly understood the marine life in the area and how passionate Capt. Troy and Corey is about preserving it for our future generations and we are very grateful for their dedication to preservation. read more

Called Capt. Troy after another Capt. canceled our booked trip due to mechanical problem with his boat. LUCKY US!!!!! Capt. Troy and first mate Corey were exceptional. We brought in white snapper, red snapper, trigger fish, ruby lips, vermillion snapper, and wait for it... a bonita, a King Mackeral, a 25 lb Amber Jack, and... an 8 ft reef shark.
