In short, this man took my $2000 deposit, and over nearly two years (pre-COVID), failed to complete a single task in the contract. I asked for my money back and sent a demand letter. Dave gave excuses such as other jobs running over, personal injuries/limitations, family health issues, etc. He complained about how many times he had to come to my house to talk about the plans. While I admit that I did have an evolving vision that sometimes needed a face to face discussion, most of his trips were for his benefit, not mine (e.g., had to re-measure several times and even asked me to take measures to send). He stated that his right to keep the deposit was based on work already done. I never saw anything done. He also tried to withhold some of my items as "collateral" and in legal terms, that's called theft. I eventually had to make a trip to his workshop to pick up my property. I cannot speak to the quality of Dave's work, but I can share with you that he took advantage of someone in a state of grieving. I felt bad for each of his reasons as to why he couldn't finish the project because I was in a fragile state. In hindsight, I was manipulated. Dave may respond to this with unsubstantiated excuses. Near the end of my correspondence wit Dave, he sent me a final invoice that was $4000 over my quoted price stating that the job had caused him extra work and travel that was not anticipate. Again, I share with you that he NEVER DID ANYTHING in my house. Please choose a different carpenter to save yourself some time and money, and some very likely heartache.

Really ?? did ya think I was Tony Montana ??? cocaine stashed in the furniture ? ...anyway...called several restoration company's....who..apparently are all millionaires, lottery winners....or likely both....since no one bothered to call me back...even with several messages...helloooo ? Morons ? thousands to make !! ....except for Dave with FINIsmith... Dave came over the next day...looked at everything...made appropriate cooing noises....and said "yup...there is an app for that !" ....shocker of all shockers....he actually shot me an estimate later that day...in other words he exceeded what he said he would do...must be something wrong with him ?? The estimate was less than I expected...and..he showed up the next day to pick up the items....and....get this....ON TIME ! definitely something wrong with him....really....what contractor shows up on time ?? most have graduated summa cum laude from the Comcast school of rank non-professionalism. He is also going to build some custom cabinets to show off my beer coaster and matchbook collection. If ya need any restoration...refinishing...custom cabinets...give ol' Dave a shot at earning your business ! ....and...ladies...he is single...and a spittin' image of Ernest Borgnine !

The same installer sprayed some water with my garden hose but the mess remained. I ended up cleaning it off. Poor craftsmanship and no pride in their work whatsoever. I gave Performance Stoneworks all summer to fix the scratches. No repairs made, only threats of legal action if the balance wasn't paid. The balance has been paid but I cannot give this company my business in the future. Very disappointing. Jeff, who came out to do the template, refused to take any responsibility or even offer an apology for the inferior performance of the team. A sign of the times with this company. Better companies out there. FYI, 19 of the 22 reviews on Facebook are over 6 years old, sadly they are no longer the same company.

He also explained why you'd install a shut off valve in front of the pressure tank (troubleshooting pressure). In any event, I'm changing my 2 star to a 5 based on that conversation. It was a good install, just overpriced, which we can work out later for a repipe project I need done. Thanks Joshua. The definition of greedy service folks taking advantage of a situation. I was losing pressure in the house and I'm on a well. The technician replaced the pressure pump (which needed to be replaced) and added a whole house filter at my request. The job went decent and the technician did a pretty good job on the installation. However, the price I paid for the equipment installation was extremely overpriced before I realized. Also, the problem with the pressure wasn't resolved. After the technician came back the next day to troubleshoot, he believed there was a leak somewhere losing pressure, which was a reasonable assumption given the symptoms (and I had another plumber come out and verify, but he actually found the real issue). The technician checked everywhere and couldn't find a leak and tried to schedule a sonar person to locate it. This didn't sit well with me so I called a well expert (Dutton should quit advertising well service). The other plumber that came out instantly noticed 2 things wrong with the pressure tank installation, the tank was over charged with pressure at 50 psi and needed to be set to 38 psi to work correctly (this exaggerated my problem) and he installed a shut off valve on the incoming water line from the well to the pressure tank, and if someone were to ever use it, the would blow up the well pump. The real problem is that the well pump is dying and while it has some pressure, it's not enough to fill the pressure tank fast enough to maintain running water at a faucet. This guy told me what the problem was FOR FREE. Dutton came back out to troubleshoot their work and tried to charge me another 400 (which they will never get from me) and they were going to charge me more to fix the non existent leak AFTER I paid the sonar people another 400. So, I now have someone coming out to replace the well pump. The guy that came out and told me the issue for free, is going to get 3000 to replace the iron filter and water softener after they are done. Dutton quoted me FOUR THOUSAND DOLLARS to replace just the iron filter. There are other companies who aren't just in it for the money. Call them.

We're so grateful we found Reid's Home Repair for our big basement refinish project - great work…read moreand great humans! Our home was built in 1913 and gut rehabbed in 2024. However, the basement was not finished, but had rough-in plumbing installed. We were looking for someone to finish the basement (4 rooms total), including adding an additional bedroom with closet and full bathroom. This included all electrical, plumbing, framing, drywall, door installation, flooring, trim, and painting. Mike was quick to respond to my original inquiry, come check out the space, and provide a quote. He was timely, friendly, and easy to collaborate with. We changed our mind a few times on final design - we appreciate how patient he was with us while we narrowed in on the final plan. The final quote was very detailed and he provided helpful information on the areas for potential cost increase (given that the home is old and there could have been unexpected things identified after work begun). This helped us set our expectations for the project. During the project, he kept us up to date on progress or concerns and kept the area very clean (ensuring very little debris made its way outside the basement into our home). He managed all of the subcontractors (electric, plumbing, carpet, etc) so we didn't need to worry about a thing. Made it super easy by having one point of contact! His work speaks for itself. There were a lot of difficult aspects of the basement to figure out (i.e. uneven walls and ceilings, tricky vents or pipes along the ceiling, water/electrical shutoffs needing to be accessible, etc), but he managed to turn the space into exactly what we were looking for. The attention to detail makes all the difference! In the end, the project took about two months (including carpet installation) and final cost was in line with the estimate. I'd recommend Reid's Home Repair to anyone!
