So that you understand where I'm coming from- I have a masters in Early Childhood Development, I've been teaching for 10 years, and I recently toured 6 Montessori schools in the area looking for the right preschool for my daughter in the Fall. We chose Montessori at Emory because of the beautiful, spacious and new facility and the loving, educated AMI certified teachers. Now- my tour of Scott Blvd Montessori was a different story. While we waited for someone to let us in the front door EVEN THOUGH I had an appointment (which they never did because no one was overseeing the front desk from 3:15-3:40, a parent coming to pick her child up finally let us follow her in- completely dangerous btw), I witnessed something on the playground that made my decision not to send my daughter to Scott Blvd M immediate and definite. I watched a toddler teacher who I can only describe as uneducated and dare I say, ghetto, scream at this kid, forcing her to sit facing the fence, yelling unintelligibly repeatedly . It was unprofessional and unnecessary. I couldn't believe staff is allowed to talk or discipline children that way, and certainly couldn't believe this was occurring outside for anyone who walks up the front door to hear. So sad- I hope that kid's parents wise up soon. I took the tour that followed to be polite. The teacher was nice, the classrooms were NOT! These were the worse montessori classrooms I saw on all of my tours. Only a few activities that are unique to montessori schools allowed to identify the classroom as such- otherwise, it seemed bare and unwelcoming. The children there were sitting in a circle doing NOTHING at 3:45, and furthermore, Scott Montessori is not AMI certified yet. In effect, this place came off as a public aid daycare- not a private Montessori school. 1 star for Scott Blvd Montessori.

It seems there are lots of staff who have been there for a long time. I really appreciate the caring culture of the preschool. The daycare is clean, organized, fun, and feels intimate (even though they have a lot of kids). My son has been in the infant classroom for 8 months. He started when he was 2 months old, and after meeting his teachers, Miss Jamie and Miss Hamida (who has also worked at Today's Kids for 18 years!), I was not nervous at all. The classroom is bright, spacious, safe, and homey. My baby has fun and his teachers are so loving. They have always been supportive of any specific feeding/sleeping/tummy-time schedule. The infant classroom has a maximum of 6 babies at any one time, so I found it to be a lot calmer than other daycare centers where the classroom had a maximum of 12-16 (albeit with more teachers). Drop-offs and Pick-ups are smooth and efficient. The entrance requires a key code to unlock the door, and a password-protected computer application is used to check in/out the child, and it is so easy. It takes about 10 seconds or less. The driveway has a loading zone, which is also super convenient. The front desk is always attended, and the people sitting at the desk know every family, so they call over to each classroom to request the teachers to start getting each child ready to go. For my baby, this usually means Miss Jamie will pack his bag with his bottles and his daily chart and give him one last diaper change.

I have had a surprise party for my son, and they are VERY attentive to letting me know what it is going on with my children at all times. I wanted to particularly commend Ms. Tiffany, the Director for all her hard work and dedication. She ensures my Elementary Students and Infant are well taken care of. As for my infant, she is SPOILED by Ms. Tiffany and her Staff; my child gives me the '' I don't want to go home'' look every time at pick up. Whenever I receive pictures, she is either in a teacher's arm, hanging with Ms. Tiffany, or sleeping RIGHT next to the teacher. What is a crib to my child? Lol. Her smile lightens up the moment she sees her teachers every morning. From the beginning they have answered all my questions, and helped vanish my anxiety. When my child first attended I was excited as they received homework and teachers seemed interested in "loving our babies". Needless to say, everything dissipated. Teachers getting fired left and right. Every 3mths there is a new teacher. No one is ever at the front to open the door or when it's time to pick up the little ones. Kids continuing to get sick. Teachers don't wear shoes nor do they have any clue as to what is going on. Teachers have stated the owner Mrs. Ham does not respect them, tells them to shut up but due to the pay in the area, they quit and come back or stay because they need a job. When brought to the owner's attention about my child's scratches on their face or my concerns about the teacher not resolving conflict, her response "what is it you want me to do about it" YOUR JOB MAAM!!! Depending on a teacher your child has, your child is more than likely to not have their diaper, pull up, or underwear to change if it has been soiled until the end of day. There have been other parents concerned about why their child has had rashes and has broken out on their bottom, because the lack and or negligence of monitoring the children going to the bathroom. let's not mention, they have cameras, however, none of the cameras work in the classroom. So if you have a concern about your child, the answer is always "oh... I don't know, you have to ask Mrs. Ham" or "I dont know." Also, please be aware the clothes you send with your children are more than likely to end up on another child's body and you would never see the clothes you sent with them. When it comes to the "learning Academy" your child would not learn anything. Once again, it really depends upon the teacher that is assigned to your child if they stay and or last more than three months. Other than that, you are better off, teaching your child at home. Don't believe me, ask some of the moms, and or dads that come out every single morning or every single evening. Enroll your child at your own risk. So much potential but very lackluster.

I couldn't not write a review. Food allergy issues: They are extremely particular about what they allow you to pack your kid for lunch. My son is allergic to dairy. The school is VERY conscious of nut allergies but did not give two craps about his dairy allergy. I could not pack him virtually any basic snacks like organic vegan "cheezits", organic veggie straws, ketchup packets, etc.. They nitpicked something in his lunchbox on a weekly basis. As if having a preschooler with a food allergy isn't hard enough!! They said it was because they didn't allow foods that were processed in the same facility as nuts but 1- I sent them labels for the foods that show where it says "nut free facility" and 2- if they care so much about being nut free, why didn't they care about my sons allergy?!? Then there were the parties. At Christmas, the ONLY food my child could eat was the snack I signed up to bring. Many of the foods could have easily been made a dairy-free option. Like instead of Doritos, having regular or BBQ lays chips. But the teachers didn't care enough to put in the effort to make the Christmas party inclusive. My son attended private 3yo pre-k at a church and is now in 1st grade. Our experience in pre-k at New Odyssey was by far the worst as far as dealing with his allergies in school goes. His other teachers have been incredible. This place acted inconvenienced and I often felt singled out. Only reason I didn't leave was because nowhere else had a pre-k opening. They allow high schoolers to park in their parking lot. One of them backed into my nanny while she was waiting in the carpool line. Thankfully no kids were in the back seat!! Do you think they banned the teen from parking there?? Nope. The daycare owner didn't even seem to see what the big deal was or understand why I was so upset. She didn't even call me. It took her 2 days to call me back after I called her. It is careless and irresponsible. The other reviewer is right. Jennifer at the front desk has a bad attitude. That seems to be pretty standard among daycare front desk staff though. So, if your child has food allergies or other special needs, I strongly encourage you to look elsewhere. These people don't go the extra mile.
