My child attended Discovery Isle Oceanside for just two months, and that was two months too long. It took less than a month for me to realize I had made a huge mistake entrusting them with my son, who was only five months old at the time. When I first toured the school, the focus was entirely on how much I would be paying, what discounts I could get if I signed up immediately, and what payment method I would use. Not a single word about safety, cleanliness, curriculum, or care standards. Only money. I should have walked away then, but desperate for care, I enrolled him. I still carry guilt for that decision. The promises they make during enrollment, like daily photo updates and reports on feedings, naps, and diapers, are completely empty. Over two months, I received only seven photo updates. Daily reports were not sent during the day, only after pick-up, leaving me completely clueless about my son's well-being while he was there. The infant and toddler rooms are combined, creating a chaotic environment totally unsuitable for babies. My son routinely got only 8-12 minute naps for the entire day. When I asked for help working on his sleep, I was met with blank stares. Their nap policy is basically to wait until a baby accidentally falls asleep on the floor before moving them into a crib. Babies are often left crying on the floor or stuck between gates. I witnessed a teacher step on a baby's hand and saw firsthand how overwhelmed and exhausted the staff are. I even overheard a teacher gossiping to a new hire about how much she "hated" a child on the preschool side, setting a toxic tone for a child she had never even met. Illness spreads like wildfire in this place. Their sick policy is practically meaningless. Babies with green mucus, rashes, and other clear signs of illness are allowed to stay as long as they do not have a fever. They mishandled my son's breastmilk bottles, letting milk leak and go to waste. They regularly used the wrong size diapers, leaving him soaked and uncomfortable. Items clearly labeled with his name routinely went missing. AND THIS IS CRITICAL: at no point was I asked to provide my son's immunization records or a physician's report. In California, licensed daycare centers are legally required to verify and maintain up-to-date immunization records for every child upon enrollment. Discovery Isle Oceanside simply ignored this law. If they are failing basic legal requirements for safety, what else are they overlooking behind closed doors? When I raised concerns to the principal, I was ignored. The only time she responded was to demand 30 days' payment because I was withdrawing him. She had no interest in addressing the serious issues I raised. Only the money mattered. Maybe for older children this place barely scrapes by. But for infants, it is absolutely unsafe, unsanitary, and not worth the risk. Learn from my mistake and stay far, far away. read more

My son received a concussion in their care. He was 10 months and attended for four hours. It hurts me to write this review. He was hospitalized overnight and it is hands-down one of the worst days of my life. They offered to pay all his medical bills well I was still in the hospital with my son. We never asked them to and nor did we take the money. The State of California investigated and found no fault of the daycare. This was in part due to the fact, they did not have cameras, he did not have bruising on his brain, and a teacher did not witness him fall. They did not have proper supervision over the students. I picked him up on his first day he was crying in the corner surrounded by other babies. The only teacher in the room with all the babies alone handed him to me and I immediately saw the abrasion on his face. I asked what happened to his head and she did not know and assumed he hit his head on the windowsill. This is concerning but I know children get bumps. I brought him home and then we realized something was wrong and that night he was admitted to the hospital. They need cameras do not put your child in this situation. I'm devastated by this incident and would never want a family to deal with the same thing. read more

The school is VERY disorganized, admin was unaware of my tour, the walls were filthy, the older kids have a nice new playground and the littler toddlers have an old unsafe (not exciting) sandbox. Please, if you care about your child, don't send them to this preschool. First off, it is nearly impossible to contact the school directly by phone- the phone numbers on the website take you to a phone tree and most of the time they won't pick up when you finally reach the school directly. There's rarely anyone up front to monitor who comes in and out, and parents often tailgate- anyone could come in. Every classroom seems to be out of ratio and the children seem to be more of a burden to the teachers - I never felt like the teachers actually wanted to get to know my child and really only focused on getting through the day. I would frequently hear teachers loudly disciplining children. The teachers seem overworked and frustrated. The facilities were also dirty, with old toys and books, and we were rarely sent pictures during the day or sent home with art they made. For as much as they charge, I can't believe this place is allowed to operate this way. read more

We have been coming here since 2022 and started when my son was 3 years old, and now he has graduated from his pre-k class and he just finished the kindergarten enrichment camp. My daughter started when she was 2 and has been in the beginners and intermediate classrooms. I have nothing but positive things to say about this school, the teachers, and admin staff. I always felt informed and got to read what the kids did in class every day, with great communication through the app if needed. Both my kids felt so loved and cared for there, and we cried a lot of tears saying goodbye to everyone since both kids are starting at a new school. Our family absolutely LOVES this school. Our little one has been going to this school from infancy to preschool and this staff has our complete trust, love and respect. Discovery Isles has been great for our daughter. The school keeps you informed as to what your child is learning at all times. Throughout the day you will get pictures and updates as to what your child is doing. COVID-19 has obviously been a challenge for all but they have risen to the challenge and have been open for a few months now. Even with one scare they closed down our child's class for two weeks and we had two zoom calls daily for our child to continue learning and interacting with her teachers and fellow classmates. Both of my kids started at Discovery Isle Oceanside as infants and now my oldest is headed to Kindergarten, so our family obviously thinks highly of this school. The principal made us feel like family from the start, and that's why we chose Discovery Isle over other daycare/preschools. The teachers are very caring and truly love the kids. While at work, I know my kids are safe and getting the education and fun they need to thrive. Oftentimes I am shocked by what my kids have learned at such a young age. The principal and assistant principal are great communicators, and the teachers are always willing to provide feedback or talk about your kids' progress during drop-off or pick-up. This place has been amazing for our family. For so many reasons other than just school. Putting your child anywhere is hard, putting your child anywhere during a pandemic? Harder. The woman who work here have become extended members of my child's family, and therefore mine. Whether they like it or not. I remember when I first went to tour the school I was so scared, I watched the kids come out of the school and was watching to see if they seemed happy. One mom was actually so sweet she stopped and said "Are you touring?" I said "yes"... then she called her kid back "hey buddy, do you like coming here?" And the kid went on and on about all the things he liked. There's reasons a parent would do this (take the time to write a review) and it's because they are doing an amazing job. Even when this school was carrying the major stress of all the things happening during the pandemic, they were amazing. They have their own children, their own concerns, their own lives, and they were there... for us... every single day... and I NEEDED them. We cannot praised Discovery Isle enough. When my work decided last minute to change my scheduling, it included the plan that I needed to find a daycare for my little. And that is not an easy decision to make at a drop of a hat. After doing a little online research, we found Ashley and Amy at Discovery Isle, who not only went above and beyond to do anything in their power to make me feel safe and secure about taking my child to daycare, they thoroughly walked me through the process, and still to this day, make sure my babe always feels happy and welcome. Our son is enrolled in the infant daycare program. We cannot speak highly enough about this facility and all the people who work there! They are professional, kind, and friendly to all the parents and children. My child has excelled in many area since starting full time. Communication with the staff is excellent and I never worry for my son during the days he is there. He is at the point where he gets excited pulling into the parking lot and wants out of his carseat immediately so he can run in. Not even a backwards glance as he runs into his classroom with a gigantic smile! I highly recommend DI Oceanside! After maternity leave I had reservations about leaving my sweet little angel at daycare until I met the teachers at Discovery Isle Oceanside. The Principal and Mrs Amy were so kind and showed me around and let me sit in the classroom with my daughter (pre-covid). They were able to convince a neurotic new mom she would be in great hands. My daughter has now been going there for a year and a half and she loves it. She can be antisocial around kids at the park, but she is always talking about her friends at daycare and sharing what she got to do in class that day. Best decision I've made. read more

After a horrific experience at a different preschool, I decided to spend a little extra money on a better education and environment and I am so GLAD I did. I couldn't have chosen a better preschool for my daughter. They have an amazing education system, amazing teachers, and an amazing school overall. My daughter was so happy there, that she wouldn't say goodbye and would cry when I went to pick her up. She learned so much while she was there in the 4 months that she was in school; she learned spanish, how to count and identify numbers up to 30, science, her alphabet, and started writting her name properly. My daughter loved her teacher Ms. Jennifer, and her friends as well, I was informed everyday of what she did, and how her behavior was. I loved the daily reports that were sent home, and the packets at the end of the month that showed me everything my daughter did inbetween! The school treated my daughter and I so well and I am so thankful to them for all the love, kindness, and support they showed us. I doubt any other preschool would have ever put in half the effort they did to see my daughter happy and succeed! It broke my heart when we moved to the East coast to take my daughter out of their program, but I am so thankful for the 4 months she got to spend there! This school is great! I have had my kids in since they were about 8 months of age and now my oldest is 3.5 years, They love it! There is a lot of variety to keep them engaged and challenged. They start them young with baby sign language which is very helpful at home! They also have supplemental classes within that you can pay extra for, like music class(which is fantastic! and very reasonable) and athletic classes. When its hot, there is splash day and there is a lot of designated outdoor time that includes bikes, a sand box, and a big play ground. They have a definite curriculum and my son comes home every day with a new song he knows, or a story he loves or telling me what kinds of creatures live in the ocean, for example. The class sizes are small which is great as well. I feel great knowing my kiddos are being watched and taught by the teachers of Discovery Isle. read more

We have been a long time DI Oceanside family since my daughter was 4.5 months old and the school was very new. Now I have a 4.5 year old Pre-K and a toddler in the 2yr old room. I cannot say enough good things about the leadership that Melinda brings to the school. I personally know if I need anything I can go to her or any of the teachers. Melinda hires TOP quality people to care for the kids and matches the perfect people with each age group of kids. Melinda encourages parent participation in all things, open/honest feed back and always has time for everyone. I see her working long hours to make sure her school is the best and it shows. Each class has taught my children so much. They learn everything from social and emotional teachings to art, math, science, language, etc. We have also participated in Amazing Athletes and Music which are also great programs with awesome people. I know Melinda hand picks the programs she wants at the school. I feel it is truly a well rounded environment for them and they have benefited from attending school there. Additionally, my children have some special care needs including Asthma treatments and they are happy to help. All of the teachers are warm and happy to receive the children at drop off and make them feel comfortable. I feel so happy that my kids enjoying going to school and have made friends and bonds with their teachers. We have had the following teachers Irma, Petra (amazing with my son who adored her), both Annas and Rhiannon, Kristine (so wonderful with my girl - she is my daughters idol) Tanya and they are all very special, amazing, wonderful teachers and we are so grateful! While the entire school is wonderful I want to call out a special teacher, Ms. Tanya in this review because she such a wonderful asset to the school. She has been a constant the entire time we have been going. She is truly spectacular and someone who goes above and beyond her role as a care giver. Ms. Tanya will ALWAYS every single day greet the kids with a warm smile, hug (they have to hug her) and tell them "I am so happy you are here today and I love you." I honestly could tear up thinking about the special bond both my children have with her. As a mom leaving your kids is always hard but when you know there is someone who you trust could fill in for you if needed that goes so far. In 4 years, Ms. Tanya is not sick, tired, grumpy, short, sad.....or you would never know it if she was because she makes parents and kids so comfortable and I can only assume her coworkers. She gives 250% of herself to all the kids at DI and they are so lucky to have her! My son recently transitioned to a new class room and during his adjustment, Melinda and Tanya were there to ensure it was smooth. Tanya stayed with him until he was comfortable to be dropped off at the new classroom. She will also help my daughter adjust back to class (when she has a case of the Mondays). She can be seen daily running around to each classroom spreading love, cheer to the kids and the other teachers with breaks, helping them with meals, snacks, breaks - all with a wonderful, positive attitude - I really do not know how she doees it all! Simply awesome. I trusted my two school age children's care to this center and they returned the favor with healthy, happy, and excited tots everyday going in and coming out of the center. The teachers are great and attentive. The kids that were also in the class were pleasant and well mannered. I was impressed with the activities they arranged for the kids whether it be scientific in nature or imaginary play. I recommend this establishment in a heartbeat. Got kids and a job? I am overdue in writing this review but, really wanted to express my appreciation for this wonderful center! I started my son here when he was almost two and now that he is almost three, I can't imagine taking him anywhere else. When we started, my son was speech delayed and a little behind in some other areas. Thanks in part to DI's strong leadership, enriching curriculum, and their dedicated and attentive teachers my son is absolutely thriving!! Every day he comes home with a new skill. The other day he identified an octagon. I didn't teach him that one! I find myself in awe of how far he has come in just under a year. He will pay attention for long stretches of time, he uses his listening ears and follows rules!! There is no better feeling in the world than seeing your child thrive under the loving care of professionals. I thought about singling out the teachers that have really impacted my child's growth but, I quickly realized, it's all of them. From the Director, Melinda, (who amazingly knows every detail about every child there!) to every teacher at the center, each has helped him become the best version of himself. I have no idea , why this center is getting 5 star rating. My experience was worst for our 9 month old daughter. In 3 days, I decided to pull my child out. Every day , my daughter would be handed over to us with a dirty face. They would not even clean her face after feeding. My baby's clothe cuffs were dirty like grease every day cos of leftover food. We gave bibs and they did not even use it. When my wife asked them - answer was - You know there is a lot going on here. Really ?? Is that why you guys charge so much. Finally on third day my daughter came home sick. When my wife went to pick her up , her nose was running and no one even bothered to wipe her face and she was sitting alone. My wife then cleaned her nose with warm water in front of the care givers. They should be ashamed of keeping babies like this. Pathetic center. Would never ever return here. read more

I am a busy working mom, my husband travels for work nearly every weekday, and I have no local family members to watch my daughter while I work late, and Discovery Isle has truly been a total lifesaver. The staff at Discovery Isle is a big part of the 'village' that is helping me to raise my daughter to be a well adjusted and well behaved kid. My daughter has been going to Discovery Isle since she was 4 years old. We went to the San Marcos location for about a year, then moved to Oceanside. While the San Marcos location was great, the Oceanside location is really just WONDERFUL. I can't say enough about the staff, they are so sweet and caring. My daughter is sensitive at times and they do a wonderful job of making her comfortable when something new is happening that throws her off a little. It is apparent that Ms. Melinda cares so much about the school and each child, she works so hard to make sure everyone is happy and feeling loved. Ms. Tanya is a shining star, she greets each child and parent every morning with a big smile and a 'Hello beautiful!' or 'Good morning gorgeous!' or some other pleasant positive greeting that just puts you in a great mood for the rest of the day. She is never stressed or overwhelmed, and has firm handle on the kids behavior. Ms. Stacy is truly a GEM, she is so sweet and lovely to my daughter. She seems to have endless patience when working with the children, and has a knack for bringing out the best in each kid. She is really the reason we continue to go to Discovery Isle. The tuition is worth it to have such high quality staff members caring for and teaching your child. Recently, I picked my daughter up early to go to an appointment and when we were done she begged me to take her back to Discovery Isle (even though they were only open for another 45 minutes) because she loves her friends and teachers so much. My daughter has made lasting friendships with the other children in her age group, and I plan on keeping her in after school care and summer/winter/spring break camps at Discovery Isle until they kick us out because she's too old!! :) read more

I love this school. I have two children who have been attending this school for over a year now and they love going to school every day. Why? Because the programs and teachers here are amazing. In kindergarten, my 5 year old is learning addition, subtraction, multiplication, penmanship, reading, art, geography and many other skills. Almost every day our son is sharing with us some new bit of information that he learned or showing off some skill that he's been practicing. He brings home his love of learning and even teaches his younger brother how to write letters or do some really simple math. In addition, the kindergartners get to participate in music classes and karate as part of the school curriculum every week. I love hearing my son come home singing keys and trying to teach me about music. In karate, they are taught discipline and respect and are expected to take those principles back to school and home. I love that my son comes home and wants to show us his karate stances and exercises. Additionally, the kindergartners get to go on occasional field trips. This past year they've been to the safari zoo, botanical gardens and the flower fields in Carlsbad. The great thing is, they aren't just dragged through the park expected to listen to stay in line and listen to some droll tour guide. The children are given booklets to draw pictures of the things they see, take notes, share observations and actively participate. It is so much fun for me and my wife to listen to our 5 year old come home, super excited, and share his experiences with us. We have another child in the 2-3 year old room. He is learning Spanish (he currently counts to ten in Spanish), numbers, colors, shapes and social skills. Every day they have regularly scheduled outdoor time where the kids get to ride bikes, play in a sand pit and climb on the playground. During the summer, on hot days, the school will have the children arrive in swimming clothes for splash days where the kids get to go outside and run through the sprinklers. They listen to stories, learn songs (which my son loves to sing and teach us) and do art projects (they are REALLY creative with the art projects). The teachers here are more than just teachers. They love to teach and they teach the children to love learning. They really show their love for the children in their care and actively participate with the parents about your child's needs. My wife and I couldn't be happier with the teachers employed here. They go above and beyond and I can't imagine my children going anywhere else. I have two kiddos. I am also a full time student with a very random schedule, as well as an irregular paycheck. Not only does this school provide an excellent pre-kindergarten education to my oldest, but they are also very open and honest when it comes to needing to change things last minute. I have been bringing my kids here for two years now. I love the school. Melinda and Ashley are great up front, and I can't say enough about all of the teachers that work there. First of all, it is a feat in itself to even be crazy enough to work in child care (insert sarcasm here :) ) but all of the teachers there do it with such care, grace, and dignity. My kids get so excited to go to school, and they are always eager to give big hugs to the teachers no matter the classroom they are in. It is a comforting feeling knowing that my kids are taken care of, being educated, and also being LOVED by those who are overseeing them for the day. I highly recommend Discovery Isle.
