I took my daughter to Discovery Indian in Palm Harbor for her birthday dinner, and frankly, this was some of the best Indian food I have had in my life. I've eaten Indian cuisine all over the U.S. and extensively throughout Pinellas County, so I can tell when a kitchen is cutting corners. This place does not cut corners. The Food: This is Indian "soul food" at its finest. You can taste the difference between scratch-made cooking and the "sauce-in-a-jar" shortcuts many other places rely on. Aloo Tikki Chaat: If you order one thing, make it this. It was "love at first bite." The tamarind chutney was exquisitely balanced, and the mint chutney provided a cooling finish without stepping on the other flavors. The combination of sweet, cool, and savory was unlike anything I've tasted before. Entrees: We shared the Chicken Tikka Masala (excellent depth of flavor with perfect cardamom rice) and the Shrimp Biryani, which was executed with traditional techniques and total precision. Garlic Naan: You can tell immediately that this was made from scratch and cooked the right way in a tandoor. Mango Lassi: Don't skip this! It's the perfect accompaniment to the meal. The Ambiance: One of the best parts of the evening was the atmosphere. It was refreshingly QUIET. In a world where every restaurant feels the need to blast loud music or have 20 different football games playing on screens, Discovery Indian is a sanctuary. I was actually able to enjoy my meal and have a conversation with my daughter without being overstimulated. The Service: The care and love for food shown in the kitchen extends to the overall experience. It was a relaxed, attentive, and high-quality dining experience from start to finish. We love these People, they are very sweet & make excellent Indian food OuiOui. They make a very spicy "Indian Hot" lamb Bryani & Lamb saag here. In fact, they make the Hottiest one I have ever had in my life OuiOui. We have ordered it to go a few times now and still, it's the hottest ones I have ever had. It's almost too Hot for moi. You like it sweaty crying hot where you feel it into next week? Ask for it Indian hot. You're welcome OuiOui. The bad news is the dining room is horrible & needs a serious update. Sir Hubbers & I joke about the dining room... you have to get drunk to eat in the dining room. Like going to bed with a "10" and waking up with a "2" LOLOLOLOL However, they told us about their second location and it's very cute! I stopped over there the other day to pick up a to go menu. They also have a Punjabi buffet over there on Tuesdays I think she told me. Anyhoo, we will be visiting over there soon & will update that location. Typically will drive to Tampa for Indian food but was in Palm Harbor this day and wife was wanting it. I found this place on the way home. It was ok. The Tikka Chicken Masala was a little too sweet for our liking. The Samosas were good and the Palak Paneer as also good. We are about an hour away, so would go to Tampa next time. Don't let the exterior of Discovery Indian Cuisine fool you. It is sandwiched between a Shell gas station and a place under renovation, so the exterior does not wow. The inside was small with only like 4 tables ( I assume they do more take out business), but the TV playing the Bollywood dancing gave a fun pick me up. But get over yourself, and go inside anyway (I know people gonna have something to say, so I figured I would put it out there). However, the standouts are the food and service. Now we were the only ones there, but the waiter was friendly, knowledgeable of the menu, and service was quick. Food was awesome and they were even able to customize the spice level. We ordered garlic naan, roti, chicken vindaloo, chicken biryani,and chicken Tikka masala. No complaints on any except maybe not spicy enough. Oh and the mango drink is yummy and thick. The waiter was extremely friendly and seemed to be one of the owners or family as he stated they would make changes etc as we liked. He brought us a fresh bottle of water from the refrigerator no charge it was ice cold and a good start! We usually order vegetable pakora but we wanted to try something different so we ordered paneer pakora it was not something we would reorder as it was somewhat bland and not crispy like the vegetable pakora. The main entrees came pretty fast we ordered chicken tikka masala and malai kofta (vegetable dumpling) in a cashew nut cream sauce and garlic Nan. These dishes were beyond scrumptious with creamy smooth flavorful sauces and the rice was fluffy with a lovely nutty aroma. The garlic nan tasted Smokey and buttery with a nice char. This place is such a hidden gem!! We were in the area for the day and wanted a quick dinner. I came here with a group of friends, there were 6 of us, and we all loved it. I don't eat a lot of dairy, so I got some sort of vegan spinach curry with chicken and it was AMAZING. Highly, highly recommend. I also don't love a lot of spice, so I got mild and it was perfect. The food here was absolutely delicious and you get really big portions. It's part of a gas station but don't let that deter you! There's a couple of table insides so I definitely would be mindful of when you go. It's a tad small so takeout might be better. This place used to be one of my typical go-to's for Indian cuisine since my usual place was closed for the season...But lately, I gotta admit, Discovery has gone down some in quality. In my most recent order, the samosa felt kind of unprepared. Usually a samosa is supposed to be melt-in-your-mouth to some extent, but they seemed to have changed the recipe and it felt like I was chewing on unspiced pieces of rubber rather than the pasty feel I'm used to when eating a samosa. The chicken and naan was OK, though I will say that the rice was also a bit rubbery, but was edible unlike the Samosa...overall disappointed, but it was still decent. Until I read this restaurant had 50 food violations, I loved to eat there... friendly staff...( only one waitstaff)... good food and always open to adjustments in ingredients (spice, dairy)... but this amount of violations shows a total disregard for customer safety... really disgusting and sad...they seem like really hardworking people trying to make a living... but, not at the expense of the customers... yuk! read more

Go with the Saag. We were looking for a place to eat near where we were staying. We like Indian food so we thought we'd check it out. The restaurant was nearly empty and TBH it looked questionable. I'm all honesty I have never been more disappointed with the service of a restaurant in my life. We arrived and the restaurant had maybe 2 or 3 table with people other than that it wasn't busy. We still waited over 10 minute to be seated after being seated they forgot to give us menus I had to get up and get one but all that was forgivable; the real main issue here is that we ordered an appetizer that took 20 minutes to come out and waited 30 minutes for our order to be taken. After we told the waitress we were ready she told us to wait in a rude way and proceeded to flirt with the guy on the table next to us. After our order was in it took an hour for our food to arrive just for it to be tepid. The music turned off and it was closing time before we got our food and we got there an hour and a half before closing. Overall a bad experience and I won't be returning food was good tho. read more
