This is an update to my 5 Star review from last year. My mechanic had a problem getting one of the lug bolts off of my car. In his efforts to remove the lug bolt, the nut was damaged to the point that it could not be removed. I took the car to Discount Tire for help. Kevin, Mark, and Joseph were great. They worked my car in right away and used their experience and some creative thinking to remove the damaged lug bolt and replaced it with a new one. My tire had a slow leak, so I called around to get some pricing for a patch. I was very shocked that the first two places I called were going to charge $25, when I've only had experiences in other similar towns paying $10 to $15. I was happy to hear that Discount Tire will do them for free (as long as it's safe to do so)! I left to get there immediately. David was the rep who worked with me, and he was great. Of course at the end of the day, this is a business, and he is a salesman, so he went ahead and took a look at the condition of all of my tires, and explained to me that three of them were in need of replacement soon. I explained that I wasn't planning on spending that much during the day's visit, but he gave me some quotes and pricing for later on and was not pushy with making that sale at all. After they checked out my leaky tire, David explained that it was an issue with a prior repair, so they could not rerepair it. He gave me the option of buying a new one or having them put it back on for me to be on my way. Again, I appreciated that he was not pushy in making a sale. After some discussion, and answering all of my questions, and showing me some prices, David made some recommendations but ultimately left the choice up to me. I made a phone call to get a second opinion from someone who is more car savvy and validated everything that David was recommending, so I felt like I could trust him and he had my best interests in mind. I was appreciative that he explained everything on the itemized receipt which included the additional fees on top of the base tire costs. I was also happy to hear that the company offers free tire rotation and balances as well as a seemingly good warranty policy. I was also unaware that there were so many locations around the nation, which gave me peace of mind in being able to actually use the benefits. However, there was another customer who came in who was extremely frustrated because the company would not honor replacement of his tires after telling him that if anything went wrong, they would take care of it. I was worried about being in a similar situation in the future, so I asked the manager and David why that customer was facing that situation of not being able to get replaced tires. They explained to me that it's because he never took the recommendations to care for his tires such as getting the rotations, balance checks, inspections, etc. It makes perfect sense, and is no different than insurance on many other things such as engagement rings. You have to follow the recommended care procedure to take advantage of the warranties. I would recommend however that this is clearly expressed to each customer. I can imagine being just as irate as this customer if this was not clearly noted to me. Not only that these care procedures are recommended, but that your warranty will be voided if you do not comply with them, because Discount Tire keeps track of your visits to come get rotations and balance checks. Overall, I would definitely recommend this location specifically. Everyone that I spoke to was very professional and helpful, and the prices were also far better than I was expecting, which was the best part. As a walk-in customer, I was in and out within the hour and felt that I left with a great value and safe tires before going out of town the next day. read more

This place was truly amazing and a life saver. I rented a vehicle from Avis at the Raleigh/Durham airport the day before and drove it to Greensboro to see my father. I turned the car on today while staying at my dads place and it had a low tire pressure. I went to look and there was a nail in the tire. Sadly I did not get the insurance but drove to Avis to see what I could do and they told me to come to this place which was right next store. They saw me within a minute of walking in. Really great company. Came here to have all four tires replaced since my tires were severely bald. The dusting of snow we had earlier in the week along with almost being late for work because I couldn't get my car off the slightly slick grass (it was frustrating).. were all indications that it was definitely time to change out those tires. I researched tire companies in the area and Discount Tire had the best prices around. Their website allows you to compare and select the tires you want as well as set up an appointment online. Very convenient. When I arrived for my appointment, I was informed that the inventory on their website was incorrect and that the tires I had picked out were in fact not in stock. However, they would offer me a more expensive set of tires for the same quote I received online for the inconvenience. Ummm... of course I accepted! Come to discount tire pretty often since moving go the area. This will be my third time this year, first was to fix a flat, second was to get two near tires & today was to get one more tire. Usually they call once you love your order online to let you know they received and estimated time it would be here. 2 days pass and I didn't hear anything so I called spoke with Alex! Alex done his part by trying to track my tire, called the supplier and it could not be found. So he took his time to find one for me so I could get on the road. Told him I was getting off work at 2:30, and would be there within the hour, he said it would take 45 minute to get there and then one I arrive it would take about 10 minutes to get it done. So get there at 3:30, get checked in and can't remember the guys name Matt or Mike was like it will be an hour to an hour and a half before we can get you back. I said that is not what I was told! Mind you there is only 3 people in the lobby so they weren't extremely busy. I told him I need to be on the road by 4:15 as I need to be somewhere by 7:00, and I understand it's not my fault or their fault that my tire was lost and not here on time but I was told it would take 10 minutes for 1 tire! So he got an attitude told me he could get it when he could & then went to Alex and asked Alex about it and he was like nah nah I didn't say that. So then I could hear the conversation! One I don't lie, two I own a business and three again it's not what I was told. So needless to say, I waited almost an hour because I needed the tire before traveling about 4 hours! Every high-end hotel/resort operation should visit this discount tire store to better understand how to serve people. They are genuine. I came to understand why when while waiting on my car to finish up, I heard the manager Lamar (manager of the store) tell a customer about the bad condition and the safety situation her tires would cause if she were to drive on them. She only had enough cash with her to buy one tire. Then I heard Lamar say something I've never heard before.... 'Maam, I can't let you drive that car without putting both of those tires on the back for safety, would you let me put the second one on and just promise me to come back and pay for it when you can'.... Fantastic service, friendly staff, good price. I'm gonna be honest, I know nothing about tires and I got a flat with the cold weather coming through. The person who helped me checked out all my tires, told me about the different options without pressuring me to buy better or more than I needed. Nope no sale here. Called to order tires and when they called to let me know they were here I asked do I need to make an appointment in fact twice and was told no come on in. I live no more than 10 min away. When I got there the parking lot was slammed and cars were almost parked out on Gate City Blvd. I was politely greeted by an employee and she told me it happens. In a space of ten minutes I am to understand by her that the parking lot was virtually empty when I got there I found it overflowing. I really don't think an appointment would have made a difference. Either their version of "virtually empty" when they look and mine are very different. I understand they do good business but I just wasted my time. They shouldn't "pile on" customers just to get business cause in this case it's a big turn off and a no sale. Won't go back. read more

I showed up 10 minutes after they closed on a Saturday with a hole in my tire. The wheels had a lock on them and I didn't have a key. Roadside assistance could not help me.
