I bought a small charge controller. It smoked. Took it back and was replaced with no trouble.

We had troubleshooted and identified the problem. I needed all 4 connectors on the solar panels removed and new ones added. It was done incorrectly and didn't work. I had to take my van to another shop ti get the problem corrected! Very disappointed. read more

I'm a DIY'er. I had a 300w ground deployed solar system that I wanted to upgrade. I had a good but imperfect understanding of what I needed exactly to upgrade the solar on my camper. They answered a few of my questions, gave me a couple tips. Then made the sale of an additional 600w of panels, a Victron 150/70 charge controller, and some wiring. The system works great. Thank you Discount Solar for the great solar installation! System is working great. I spent 3 months talking with Rick and Craig about the design. Richard, did the inside design and mounting, is as meticulous as I am, and everyone knows my OCD. We have 4-170 watt panels mounted on ®SolaRVector electric tilt modules which are remote controlled. The panels feed a Magnum PT-100 MPPT Charge Controller, the controller leaves room for future panel expansion. The charge controller feeds solar power to 3-150ah LiFeBlue Lithium batteries which in turn feeds a Magnum MSH 3012 hybrid inverter. I chose the hybrid to supplement 15watt shore power when parked in friends driveways. We monitor and control the system with the Magnum ME-ARC remote control and ME-BMK-NS battery monitoring kit. The final touch is a automatic generator start control. The Magnum ME-AGS-N will start the generator when the battery state of charge drops below 20% charge, and when the temperature inside the RV raises above 90 degrees. We have operated the system five weeks since installation. The system has been flawless. read more

Our experience with Discount Solar was less than stellar, way less... We were looking to add to our solar panels on our RV (we had 2 - 100 watt panels, wanted to add a 3rd one). We decided to make the long drive to Quartzsite due to the reviews and quote we received over the phone for a 190 watt panel installed for $435 from Discount Solar. We made an appointment, arrived a bit early and waited until our appointment time. The panel was installed and the bill went from $435 to $590. My wife paid the bill, not knowing what the original quote was. I called to discuss with the owner and after more than a week playing phone tag he told me that the quote was for the panel only, but I had verified that INSTALLATION was included with the salesman before we made the appointment and that played a major factor in our decision to use them. After giving us a hard time and telling us we were asking for way too much regarding the quoted price, we were finally refunded the additional charges. He did at least honor the quoted price. After install, my wife asked how we could tell that the panel was working. She was told that we would notice a difference on a sunny day (it was very overcast the day of install). Come to find out, they didn't even bother to test their work. After blowing multiple fuses on our solar system and not being able to use the new panel during a month long trip, we had a mobile repairman come and take a look. The reason for the blown fuses was that the panel had been wired backwards!! It would have never worked and continually blown fuses without being repaired. We had to remove the panel and have it wired correctly. We ended up spending $170 to fix their work that could have been avoided if they had only tested it! It was as easy as unplugging the other panels. The controller told us the panel was wired backwards! MAKE SURE THEY DEMONSTRATE THAT THE SYSTEM WORKS BEFORE YOU PAY THEM ANY MONEY! read more

Met with rude employees and poor attitudes starting with salesman, Stew and continuing along this week. Merry Christmas to me! I bought a brand new Thor Chateau 22E Class C but it only came "wired for solar". Since I planned to "boondock" in the Quartzsite, AZ desert for the winter, I asked my "experts" and Discount Solar was highly recommended. I received a same day estimate quote for three panels and two lithium batteries. Their scheduler Matt had me on the books and even called the day before to confirm my appointment. The crew of Charlie, Dan and Jesse were on the spot to park me and to start the installation of the panels, batteries, and even found creative out-of-sight spaces for my new inverter and charge controller. Let me start my review with a little bit of background... I recently went from a travel trailer and bought a 2019 Cougar 5th wheel, and I've decided I want all of the bells and whistles in this new rig, including solar and lithium batteries. Oh, and I know nothing about installing solar beyond what I've seen on YouTube. Now I live in Los Angeles county. You would think that there would be plenty of solar places in "green" LA county--well, there aren't many places at all. And the places that I could find seem to dabble in rv solar installs more as a hobby or side business than an actual business. I didn't want to be someone's experiment. My research led me to Discount Solar. Excellent reviews on Yelp including some mentions that they don't try the upsell. Remember, I know nothing about installing solar beyond what I've read on YouTube. I called and talked to a couple of people, including Stan. Everybody was extremely helpful, and were very patient with my questions and general lack of knowledge in this field. They told me what they recommended--i asked them about some additional things, but they simply told me they were unnecessary but they would sell it to me if I really wanted it. They didn't push anything on me that they felt was not needed, and they gave me some choices if I wanted to go with equipment that will do the minimums or if I wanted to go with a more premium setup. Here's the one negative--they are not open on Saturday or Sunday. I guess I can't blame them, I don't want to work weekends either. This place has done work for me 3 times. They installed my first system on my 28ft trailer. When the inverter failed about a year later they covered the replacement. I had them move the system to the next trailer I bought and it works great, I can run my coffee pot, toaster or microwave. Great when boondocking or even if I stop at a rest area for a night when traveling. I have just had them add a system to a third trailer and so far it's great. I was shopping prices for lithium batteries for my 2019 Leisure Travel Van to replace my Lead acids. Battleborn quoted me $2k for 200ah + battery monitor and isolated charger. I walked in and explained my sitch to Matt and he said all I needed was the batteries and my system would work fine until I decided to upgrade the other components, if desired. They managed to fit me in same day, and I paid a little under $500 less and have been happy ever since. No more waking up to critical low levels on my power bank. And I can enjoy running my kitchen appliances or electronic devices without worrying I won't be able to replenish the used power. Their LiFeBlue LifePO4 batts have a built in BT monitor I call up on my phone to see where my levels are. I almost fell victim to the popular brand hype. Nothing against Battleborn, but I think if you want a product that will provide a solution, and an installer that will give it to you straight without upselling or salesy BS, you're going to love Discount Solar. My only qualm, if it qualifies is that they had to modify the bay to fit the batteries because the LiFeBlue product was slightly taller than the lead acids that were in the space under my step. That being said, the quote was itemized and in writing, they fit me in during a very busy season, and it was a clean install at a great price. read more

I bought a new Lance Travel Trailer in November and got to Quartzite in mid February of this year. Despite having a generator that I used sometimes and a 100 watt portable solar panel, I had killed my two Interstate batteries shortly after I got to Quartzite. So I checked Yelp and saw that Discount Solar had good reviews. Now I know why. At first I was thinking about getting a few solar panels and a couple batteries and a good controller, and that's all they sold me. There was like zero upset at this place. After they started installing my equipment I told them I was interested in an inverter but they said they didn't have time that day. No attempt to get me to reschedule or buy anything else. So I went back to my BLM campsite for a week to try out my new solar system and decided I wanted to upgrade. So I returned and this time got the inverter, two more batteries and replaced my charger. At times they had three installers working on my unit. And as before, zero pressure to upsell. They are highly professional an very knowledgable about their products. I watched them do a lot of the installing and was glad I decided to pay professionals to do it. I am very happy with the quality of the products I bought and their installation and highly recommend them to anybody who needs a solar system who is down in the area. Because they don't pressure people to buy anything, I especially recommend you do your homework first and know what components you want and roughly what your solar requirements will be. These guys know their stuff, they are unhurried and calm, they answer questions completely, they are well staffed and they're honest about how long it will take and how much. Mike, Clay & Craig were awesome! Clay diagnosed and fixed my Heart Interface inverter/charger quickly. Clay showed me what was wrong and put in a new relay and wiring to replace the burnt up stuff. He also took the time to tell me what might have caused it and how to avoid doing it again. Also spent the time to explain inverting vs generator so I could understand it. Great, open shop, tech's appreciate questions and take their time to answer well. The signs in their shop will keep you smiling! My favorite: Buy the one you want! It only hurts once! This establishment was highly recommended by other RV campers around the area; we then Yelped them and decided to try them out. So glad we did! they patiently listened to our concerns (our battery bank was not charging as it should) they scheduled us for the following day and then started tracking the possible issues. They identified and corrected the solenoid issue! They also took the time to best guide us through the process of selecting a portable Solar Panel for us to use in conjunction with our current battery bank, adding and placing an easy to use plug, plus giving us the flexibility of movement in the panels. They have such a great customer service that at the end of the working day, they gave us a pointer of where to camp that night, plus take advantage of access to dumping our tanks and getting potable water. We visited the Discount Solar store, looking for recommendations on how to increase our boondocking stays in our 2019 LTV Unity. When talking to the salesman Stew, we thought we needed a new inverter and solar controller, as well as batteries. Clay came out to evaluate what we had and said our 1000 Watt inverter and controller would work fine with new Lithium batteries, so we moved forward with the purchase of two 100Ah LifeBlue batteries. Matt told us that the next available window for installation was the following day. We got there about half hour early and Matt said they were running a little behind. Dan and Clay both worked on the installation, which required some custom work and finessing. They went as far as to paint the plywood insert required to clear existing bolts... it all looks great. As it turns out the delay Matt mentioned was for the custom installation for a RV just like ours... so what they learned on that RV they applied to ours and both jobs turned out wonderful. read more

If I could , I would give Craig and the crew 6 stars ! Some good friends of ours recommended these guys and were they ever right. Everything we wanted was done in a timely and efficient manner. We were told to come in one day , and the install would happen the next day. I asked them how they could promise that it could be done in a day ( we had 8 panels , replaced the existing batteries , new control panel and 2 charge controllers) We were told that they would just keep throwing people at the job to get it done , and they did just that , and we were out late that afternoon. They have a comfortable customer lounge. It was cold that day and Craig made sure there was a heater in there to keep my wife warm. Kendall did a bang up job on the wiring , Clayton was meticulous in the interior wiring , Mike had the scheduling down to a science , and we wanted all LED's in the coach and Stan knew just what would work perfectly for us.
