Granted it was 90 degrees and most people were using the splash pad. The park is not big, at only about 16 acres, but has a lot to offer. They have a more than adequate parking lot. The park features a nice restroom facility, 2 fenced in pickle-ball courts, a 9 hole disc golf course, a large patch of green space, a couple of playground areas and an awesome splash pad. The splash pad has a lot going on. There is a slide that drops off into a pad, a fixture that dumps water on you and a bunch or sprayers. There are also benches along the perimeter for littles to sit. The splash pad closes for the season on September 30th. The pickle ball courts are first come, first serve and are pretty nice. They are side by side and enclosed in a single fence. All the playground areas are pretty nice and have new/modern equipment. The playground area for smaller kids is closest to the splash pad and is on a mud free rubbery surface. The area's equipment includes: an expression swing, a wavy net climber, a nest saucer swing, a metal slide, pebble steppers, sit and spins, ropes, a bank of traditional swings, and a supernova spinner. You will find a row of benches on the outside perimeter of the area, that is shaded, and where caregivers can sit. Then there is another playground area that is tucked in the woods a bit and has a suspended pebble bridge, rock climbing hill, a net dome, and a rope ladder. It is really some exotic equipment and not a very big area. The third playground area is for bigger kids and features a huge jungle gym climbing tower with slides and bridges (it is very tall and hard to miss), a metal slide, a sit and spin, a net climber, another supernova spinner and a playground spinner and a swerving spindle playground spinner. There is a long row of benches on the area's perimeter, but they are not covered. It is you and the sun if you are sitting on these. As I have mentioned, it is all very nice equipment though and looks relatively new. As if that was not enough, the park has 2 nice sized shelters with picnic tables under them and a grill just outside of them. Just like the everything else at the park, the shelters are pretty nice too. This is definitely a destination park and has a lot to offer. I really like this park and by the number of people that were there when I was there, a lot of other people like it too. It is definitely worth a visit.

The city of Indianapolis is on a roll right now, investing…read morefunds into improving the parks around the city, and Washington Park has been one of the targets for a much-needed glow-up. As of August 2025, there is an all-new playground in the center of the park, a splash pad, new picnic shelters, a huge parking lot and a comfort station. This is in addition to the other features that currently exist on the 120 acres of the park: a family recreation center, an outdoor basketball complex, walking trails, an 18-hole disk golf course, a mountain bike course and another smaller, older playground. The new playground at Washington Park is super fun for kids of all ages. There's an area made for kids ages 5-12, with a big play structure that has multiple slides, ropes courses and lots of things to climb. There's also a play area for toddlers, with a mini slide and a pint-sized play structure. There are also musical instruments, a teeter-totter, swings (including accessible swings) and cement creatures like turtles and salamanders you can climb on top of and ride, if you want to! The splash pad at Washington Park is one of only two splash pads in the near east side of Indianapolis, so it is a much-needed feature in this part of Indy. (The only other splash pad is at Wes Montgomery Park.) It has multiple water features and a fun water slide. One of the best things about it is that there is actual shade around the splash pad! Shade is a scarce resource at playgrounds, oftentimes. I've only visited the new playground and splash pad, but I'm impressed with the updates that have been made to Washington Park! I hope to come back and explore more of the park sometime soon.

It has a baseball field that is OK and a small picnic shelter with two picnic tables under it. There are no grills though. the field is well maintained and does not have any benches or dugout. I am not sure if it is part of a full course, but I saw a disc golf hole in the outfield. The baseball field can also double as an open field where you can play catch, a soccer or football game, hold a picnic or even fly a kite. The park's play area is lined with wood chips. Some of the playground equipment includes a large jungle gym with slides, monkey bar rings, a balance beam/parallel bars, a sit n spin cup, U-shaped ladder, sliding poles, a bank of traditional swings and a bank of toddler swings. There are picnic tables and benches on the perimeter of the playground area to sit and watch the littles. The park has a moderate sized parking lot and there is also street parking available. The sheds on the park's property have cute little murals painted on them. You will also find a share a book box at the park too. It is a neat little park, but my little was not very entertained by the playground and did not play there very long. The park is well maintained for the most part, but the trash was overflowing while I was there, and some left a bunch a trash on one of the picnic tables under the shelter. I did not see any restroom facilities or porta johns, so I suggest using the bathroom before you come and to bring your own water.

For a beerfest, the space was perfect and nice for the vendors. It is not a big park, but for family picnics and events, Opti Park is perfect. The park was run down and not really kept up well from what I could see. I think I did see a playground for kids at the park which is a nice feature, but nothing else really caught my eye as to being impressive. I do not go to a lot of parks, so I really cannot compare this park to another park in Indiana, but for what it is, Opti Park is a decent size park for family gatherings or special events. I personally will not be coming back to this park unless there is a special event. If you are looking to have a family reunion or event, then I would say check out Opti Park for your needs. The children will love the playground. It is all about what your preference is for a park.

The park's crown jewel may very well be its 20,000 square foot Family Center that was built in 1928. It features an auditorium, gymnasium, and classrooms - all of which can be rented. What else can you do here? There's a disc golf course. There's one of the best sledding hills around and rolling hills throughout. There are shelters for rent, basketball courts, an outdoor pool, a winter warming center, and playgrounds that continue to be under renovation. During the summer, Brookside Park is well loved. During the winter? I'll admit it starts looking a bit rough. I was driving through it today on my way to work, and I was a little dismayed by its condition. However, it's nice to see playground enhancements in process along with improved trail work. The people I meet here are almost always friendly, though the surrounding neighborhood can be a bit hit-and-miss. The family center has a nice concrete ramp into it. There's accessible parking around the park. Overall, Brookside Park is a good but not quite great park for me. It's one of Indy's legacy parks, however, I'm hoping once its upgrades are done it'll get the love it really deserves. I drive this way a lot these days as there's far less road construction to get downtown. Between this and Spades Park just a bit further up the road, it makes for a peaceful, easygoing start to my work day.

When you drive up, first you notice a massive amount of green land with trees bordering the property. There's a 100 acres of land, so there's plenty of green space. Down the drive, there's a parking lot next to their main building. There's space for 30-40 cars, at the very least. Walking into the building, if you look to your right at sunset (when we arrived), you'll catch a brilliant sunset past the trees. It's a wonderful time to be in nature! Once you walk down the path and into the venue, allow your eyes to soak up the cozy warmth of the wooden walls, bar, and floor. This is a lovely place! Right when you walk in there is a bar to the right and then space for around 4-5 round tables and some counters/long table space for food. Keep walking and you'll have three amazing bathrooms to your left. I know, right? How strange is it to be in love with a venue's bathrooms, but you'll know when you see it. The bathroom doors are set to slide open along the wall, and are all made of re-purposed wood from a Brown County auction (thanks to one of the owners' family members explaining this to me!). The bathroom interiors are all bright colors and nothing is gender specific. Also, it's eco-friendly! The sink water fills up the toilet tanks and there are dozens of white towels & a laundry basket. There's a larger gathering place that can fit around 7-8 round tables in the next room, and past this is a door leading to the outside. They allow bonfires, woohoo! Beautiful. Also, the land is so far away from Bloomington and Indianapolis, that there's no light pollution ruining the night sky. On a clear night, there are dozens of sparkling stars. Camping may even be allowed (it was at this event) and there's plenty of space. They have space for disc golf as well. Overall, I loved the place. I hope to attend future events at this venue. This is a family-owned property and it's the perfect addition to the Nashville/southern Indiana community!

Hazel Landing Park was reopened on October 20, 2025 with the debut of the new, and quite wonderful, Bur Oak Bridge. The bridge connects directly from the park, though if you're parking on the paved area you'll have a little bit of a walk and a gravel path you'll have to use to access the bridge. The bridge, easily my favorite thing about this park, spans 500 feet across the White River. It's 14-feet wide and is great for pedestrians, bikers, or wheelers like me. It connects Hazel Landing Park to Heritage Park in Fishers. Heritage Park is definitely a more traditional park with a quality restroom and more traditional amenities. Hazel Landing Park was originally developed in 2003. It's a 41-acre park with its only other main feature being an 18-hole disc golf course. It's set against the river - kind of cool. There's also a canoe and kayak launch, picnic tables, a grill, and lots of green space. That said, it also has a bit of an industrial feeling as it's backed by parts of Carmel's utilities and the concrete companies and a gravel pit. If you know Hazel Dell Parkway, you will know what I'm talking about. The other major negative is that the driving path is significantly rough with major potholes. It's definitely not a park you want to pull into quickly. This isn't a bad park by any means. The Bur Oak Bridge is exceptional. While there's an incline to get on the bridge, it's a gradual incline and I had no issues handling it in my wheelchair. I do know this is a park that tends to flood in poor weather (it is next to White River), though it wasn't particularly bad today. I wouldn't recommend this park for wheelchair users, though someone with assistance or someone particularly able to handle gravel could at least enjoy the bridge. With so many other park options in Carmel, this would probably be one I'd mostly pass on other than those days when I want to take in the beautiful White River.

BUT, 1) In a couple months a pedestrian bridge will connect it to Heritage Park in Fishers, which has really nice paved woodsy walking trails; & 2) If you bring a lawn chair & sit on the landing in the shade a few feet from the White River, you will (hopefully) feel perfect peace.

The park has a golf course across the street but I did not go visit over there. It does look like a nice course and the have a driving range and a small club house there. The park has a decent amount of parking available. I would caution you though, when walking on the green space, be carful. The grounds gets very soggy after some precipitation. I almost lost my shoe in the mud a couple of times. The park itself has a vast amount of green space that could be used for activities such as soccer, football, a picnic, flying a kite, or playing catch. You will find a 18 hole disc golf course near the front of the park. it appeared to be a good course. There were a ton of people playing on it while I was there. In the vicinity of the disc golf course, next to a pavilion is a horse shoe pit. The pit has seen better days, but will do to satisfy your horse shoe itch. The park also has three shelters and a large pavilion available to rent. They all have picnic tables under them and grills just outside of them. The shelters are in mediocre shape and could use some renovating. The pavilion is near the tennis and volleyball courts and is decent. The park's full basketball court was nice though. It almost had me lace up and make it rain. Next to the basketball court is two nice sand volleyball courts that are fenced in and 2 sets of 2 tennis courts, for a total of 4.The tennis courts are in pretty good shape and are both fenced in too, with a low fence being in the center. The park has a playground, but it has old and limited equipment. It is on a bed of wood chips and its equipment consists of a large ADA accessible jungle gym with monkey rings, slides, and a bridge, a bank of toddler swings, a bank of traditional swings, and a ADA swing. My little guy was not feeling it. The park has a nice looking water park attached to it. There is a lot to do in the park from what I see. However, it was closed for the season during my visit so I could only view the empty pools from a far. This park has a lot of potential, but the amenities need to be updated and the grounds need to be a bit better maintained. There was trash all over the place at shelter #3 near the back of the park.
