Great 9 hole course. One of the better courses in the city in my opinion. Course is VERY well kept.

This is a review for the membership and lessons at Five Iron. Warning, kinda long!…read more I hesitate to complete a review too early on, as one tends to be in the honeymoon phase, but almost three months in, I believe I've gotten a good representation. I had just finished a 5-week clinic that peaked my interest in picking up golf, but with fall around the corner, I needed a facility where I could start practicing and one that had early hours and Five Iron was one of the places suggested to me. I was able to set up a 1 week trail with Ian, and I was easily booked in their system to come try out their facilities. It is an incredibly nice touch that the staff greets you by name, and during my first visit, I was walked through the tech and made known to alert the staff if there were any issues. There are two different sets of clubs that are available to use if you don't own your own set. I definitely took advantage of this until I purchased my own set. Water is always made available at the bays, and if one so chooses, there are drink and food options to order as well. Ian followed up on my trial after the end of the week and I made the commitment to a membership due to the comfortable atmosphere provided. As a female, I was concerned about getting a "boys club" kind of vibe, but environment is extremely welcoming. Since I live so close by, the membership has been great. I've been able to set up a routine for practice and have never had any issues getting an hour - 1.5hr in during member times, but I also think it helps when I am going in first thing in the morning before work. Other perks include showers, club storage, light breakfast options, and 20% discount on classes, etc. With the membership, one of the perks is one swing evaluation. However, as a complete beginner whose only skill was making ball contact, James Tobia, who is the senior golf instructor, was kind enough to tailor it to more of a fundamentals so I was walking away knowing more than I started. At the end of it, he gave a great breakdown plus how future lessons would look like if I wanted to continue down that path. There was no up-selling or pressure and I was responding well to his teaching techniques, so I decided to book a few lessons. From my limited knowledge, I believe I have improved drastically since my first time holding a club. James is very focused on the foundations, and is very technical, but he is able to break it down in a way that is understandable. My form is already better and I am developing a decent backswing and working on my downswing and follow-through. Highly enjoy learning from James - he is extremely professional but approachable as well. I also want to add that I interact with Steven and Stephen the most out of all the staff at Five Iron. Both have been extremely helpful anytime I needed help and easy to work with. It's a great spot in downtown Indy and worth checking out!

It was a very open space with very prompt and kind staff. The food was delicious with the appetizer bar being the biggest hit. The veggies were incredibly fresh and you could taste every ingredient. The hot honey whipped ricotta was by far the best. Many people were playing the golf simulation but there was one area where you could select over a handful of games besides gold. The sensor seemed to be greatly off and made all games feel incredibly random. Overall it was a fun experience with a lot of seating for guests to enjoy

Okay- I am a new golfer, so this review is based on that information…read more Watch out for the driving range balls coming over on the first two tees, and then when getting to the third tee, you must go through a lot of broken concrete, so beware. This was the first full hole of golf I had ever played, so Saddlebrook will be a great memory in my heart. I have played many times since and still will come back here. This course is maintained; I would not say it is the best course I have ever played and that they keep it immaculate, but it is a great course to get in and out of. That being said, we have been slowed so many times here. I understand that it is a public type course, but there have been times when no carts are available for your tee time, and that should never happen. The play can be slow and I have not seen anyone doing anything to move it along. We are not all great golfers (well, some are), but we know how to play fast. I learned that at Saddlebrook, I also wish everyone else would play in that manner. Bathrooms are decent, drinks are available, and the carts are good. Port-a-potty was available in the back 9.

I tried to take my husband here for his once a year golf outing for Father's day, and to teach our son how to play, and were told to come back when we had more practice, and could play faster. The tee times were 10 minutes apart, there was not even an opportunity to half finish the first hole before there were people waiting to T off. I highly recommend going any place else in the world to play golf. The 15 year old kid that was the "ranger" suggested we go play on a virtual course and get better before coming back. Thank you Saddlebrook for treating us so poorly on the first father's day outing we had since both out fathers passed. May your greens be filled with thistles and your sprinkler system fail.

Too bad it's private and thus only open to members. It's a Pete Dye course, so from a player/spectator perspective, it's a golfer's paradise. I was astounded by the size of the course and beauty of it - hole #18 is quite a looker, as is the recognizable #6 with the red covered bridge. The BMW Championship was well executed despite the wacky weather that week. I was able to park in a field a few miles away and ride a shuttle to the course and quickly caught one back when I was ready to leave. The course was breathtaking in the crisp white and black BMW colors, but what else do you expect when BMW is the title sponsor? Crossing my fingers the tournament returns in 2020 so we can experience it again.

The course was always in great shape - bunkers raked, greens cut evenly, divots filled, etc. This is a very private course, and you need to be with a member to play. Fortunately, they have a prestigious caddie program that offers members a chance to play quickly, and vast community involvement for kids to learn lifelong skills. The members are overall very inviting, and the staff is very helpful - not only in the pro shop, but in the whole (beautiful) clubhouse itself. If you have any chance to play, I highly recommend!
