This is a pretty nice park. It is named after Asa Bales who along with Simon Moon and Ambrose Osborne platted the streets and founded the city of Westfield. He was a key figure in the city''s anti slavery movement, known for providing a haven for the slaves on the Underground Railroad that were heading to Canada. You will find it directly across from Westfield High School. They have an adequate private parking lot and it is deceptively huge. It just keeps going and going. The park is home to a decent skate park with rails, ramps, stairs and other skate park stuff that I have no idea what they are. But it is a very nice area and well maintained.
There is also three picnic shelters with picnic tables under them and a disc golf course. The course is nice, but part of it runs along a small creek that I can only imagine how many disc it has eaten and it is pretty spread out so requires a bit of walking.
The park features an awesome paved nature walking/jogging path. It is wide and very soothing. It takes you between residential areas and has covered bench swings (Eagle Scout Projects) that are along the path. I can not express how nice it is.
Other park amenities include a restroom facility and a playground. The playground is on mud free artificial grass and has some nice equipment that includes a standing see-saw, a bank of traditional swings, a rock climber a saucer swing and huge ninja warrior-esque jungle gym with net climber, a pebble bridge, monkey rings, hanging spinners and a bunch of other little climbing apparatus. The equipment is very modern, well maintained and colorful.
Over all the park has everything that you would want in a park and is very well maintained. It is very picturesque and has bridges that enhances it visual appeal. I enjoyed my time here and this would be hat I would call a destination park, or one that you would plan a trip around.
I learned something while at this park too. There is an historical marker detailing the Rhodes Family Incident. It was an interesting read and if you do not know about it, it is worth looking up. read more
