A resident overheard my conversation and asked me if I had a realtor. I told her I didn't. She said she didn't want to impose but knows a realtor who both sold her a condo and helped her purchase another one. She gave me the name Drew Plaisted. She said he specializes in the Rossmoor community. I generally don't take a strangers suggestion without doing some research first. All my research led me to realize that he was certainly worthy of me meeting with him. My wife and I met with him at my Mothers condo. It was readily apparent that he was knowledgeable about the market, the Rossmoor community and my mother's specific floor plan. More than just the business end of our meeting we saw that he was genuine, personable and deeply committed to helping us when we really needed someone. I was looking in 2018 when the market was very hot. I was desperate to get a place and both brokers, from Rossmoor realty, knew I was. I was uncomfortable w/both brokers being from Rossmoor Realty because my gut was never to trust them. So I identified an available unit listed for $310k. By the afternoon of the next day, I had signed the contract and had the required funds wired agreeing to $331k. The very next early morning I received a call from my RR broker that I had to bump to $351k if I wanted the unit. I was told that I had to redo all of the paperwork in 2HOURS! I panicked and accepted the higher price. It was a time when places were selling in 24 hrs of listing. Mine popped up at 10 pm the night before I bought it. I have to admit I hadn't had much experience in real estate and I was totally confused, but I only had 2 hours to try to understand why this happened. They said someone else had come along! I had already signed the papers and wired the money! Does that not constitute a sale? I later tried to consult with some other realtors here in Rossmoor and they kind of said kind of sort that it was weird. Of course they are not going to diss colleagues even though different agencies. I have stewed on this now for 7 years as I did not have the funds to take them to court. To this day I feel as though I overpaid by $20k. My feeling is that they did it because they could and it worked out well since they are both w/RR. My only recourse is to let anyone I know who is looking to try to avoid RR, both seller and buyer agents. They have held way too much power here in Rossmoor. I am very happy to see that sellers these days are using other agencies. My advice - stay as far away from Rossmoor Realty as possible.

After two failed attempts, my agent mentioned a "special deal" in which a dilapidated unit sale was being handled by another agent at the same agency (also Rossmoor Realty). As it turned out, negotiating with two agents from the same agency was a horrific mistake. I did get the unit, but it was in disastrous shape and in my opinion, I paid a premium price (way over market) for the unit. In my opinion, I got taken to the cleaners. I CANNOT recommend this agency as a result. I wish I had never approached Rossmoor Realty and will never again use them. I recommend you don't either.
