Update: I received a phone call from the CEO of the company and they are looking at changing their 20% restocking fee policy to something that would be more equitable for both the customer and their business. I gave my initial rating based on my first impression that this company didn't care about their customers' experiences, but given today's conversation it's clear that impression wasn't true to how this company does business. I think it is rare that a company goes out of its way to really listen to a customer and consider a policy change based on feedback. read more

This company does not stand behind its product. We had stain that did nothing to our patio. We sent them pictures to show it did not work and when we returned the second gallon, they did not offer us another one to try. In fact, they charged a restock fee. Why would they "restock" this to sell to someone else?? It belongs in the trash. We were told we would get money back minus the restock fee but as of now we still do not have that. We have been dealing with this problem since March. I am told they would check on things but then never call back. I only talk to them if I happen to get someone to answer the phone. I was also told the owner of the company told them to charge restock fee for the defective product but find it strange that there was not any call made while my husband and son were standing there. Be careful when purchasing here if you are looking for a company that stands behind their products and provides exceptional customer service as you won't find it there. Dont waste your money or time. Bought 5 gallons at over $300 for charcoal easy tint. Which they said 4.8 would be enough for 3 coats of porous concrete. Didn't even have enough to do one full coat. Now told because I didnt use a swirling motion and thats why.... but they are having a sale and I could buy more. It would literally cost me almost 1500 do finish and have it look like actual charcoal. So now ive wasted 300 dollars and hours of my time, now I have to strip all of this crap off and resurface the concrete. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY! read more

We experience problems with the tan color we ordered being almost white in color. Direct Colors customer service told us that their policy is no replacement or refund. We used the same color 3 yrs ago and were very pleased that is why we ordered it again for a refresher. This product is not cheap so now we are stuck with a almost full gallon. Good products but unethical company. Can't trust their delivery dates either. They generated a tracking number way in advance of UPS picking the product. Charged a hefty shipping charge, which would have been zero if I had ordered thru Lowe's. Direct Colors would not tell you that even when asked. Suggested a higher priced combination of products when lower priced combination was available. Money is the only "mantra" of this company. Help yourself and go thru Lowe's, much easier to deal with and no shipping charges when receiving or returning. read more

BUYER BEWARE!!!! DO NOT SHOP HERE. Do yourself a favor and get your stain from Lowe's, Home Depot, Zoro, Concrete Network, Angi, ANYWHERE BUT THIS PLACE! My GF purchased a sample tint that was clearly either mixed improperly or defective. I listened as both the customer service agent and his manager disrespected and berated my girlfriend over a refund for $20! This company is dishonest, has horrible customer service and terrible products. After 2 coats of the "charcoal" sample, you can ever so slightly see a faint distinction behind the bottle where the stain was laid. Clearly isn't charcoal colored!!!! It's either a bad batch or bad product, either way it should've been resolved. Direct Colors would not own their mistake or back their product and make it right. Made a purchase on May 19 which was a Sunday for over $500 received an email on May 22 stating that they will have 20% off sitewide during 5/23-5/27 memorial day weekend I had not even received the merchandise yet and I contacted direct colors and try the see if I could have an adjustment for the 20% the customer service reply to my email and said that they only do adjustments within 48 hours when placing the order. Direct color is open Monday through Friday. I placed the order online on Sunday the 19th so technically the order didn't go through until the 20th. Monday We're talking about one day what type of company does business this way.The adjustment or the return policy is not on the check out order page. I will not buy anything else from them. if I had known that they were going to have 20% off during memorial day weekend, I would have waited to make my purchase. It only makes sense. read more

Our first concern was the color, we contacted Direct Colors with the color concern, we thought maybe it was mixed up incorrectly since we were going for a black/greyish finish, and instead we got a BLUE finish. I do agree with you with the "waves of the finish" was impressive, however they were not black/white, we sent over photos, and we had a conversation with your staff and was told "sometimes the mixing of the colors doesn't always turn out to the exact finish/coloring you are expecting." The problem we had with this was the fact is you have a demo on your website listing out the details to get this particular finish and when we ordered we were told NOT to get the acid stain which is what we were originally ordering and was told to get the ColorWave which is nothing more than a paint to concrete. We have done concrete staining for over 20 years! After walking on the newly stained floors (After 3 DAYS) that were PROPERLY prepped (again by professionals) the "paint was coming off" flaking just by walking on the floor with bare feet. You can see if you look at other reviews with photos that is a COMMON problem with your product. You guys are quick to say "proper prep wasn't done" instead of rectifying the problem. Also, Direct Colors Facebook feedback to my review "kept harping" on this TAPE issue, which never happened. THEN I was BLOCKED from your FACEBOOK page. As a business owner myself, I cannot believe the dishonestly in this response to my BBB review, let me explain: your company's solution was "sorry sometimes the colors don't mix well" then OFFERED to sell us a different product and US pay for it. On a 2 month old concrete patio we used the Direct Colors antiquing stain in 3 different colors and after spraying it down we could barely tell there was any color change. Luckily we decided to go to a local store and get a competitors concrete stain before we used the Direct colors acrylic sealer. Don't Bother with with Direct colors. Do your research and get somthing better. read more

Bought 5 gallons each of antiquing stain and their sealer. It took double the amount of stain calculated to get some color on my landscape curbing. I put the sealer on my stamped patio as instructed with a deck sprayer in thin coats. My stamped patio now has 100s of bubbles! I've left 4 messages and sent an email, no response! I guess they don't back their own products and I know they don't return their customers calls. read more

I love love these products. Staining pigments and antiquing that is naturally pooling and super absorbent - great if you have textured concrete and beautiful on smooth. Cafe Royal is like suede! This product is perfect for any surface and I have used them many times. read more

Don't use this company. I used their products to stain concrete and then sealed. I used sherwin Williams sealer which I used once a year for last 5 years. Never a problem with stain peeling. When contact to ask what do I do now. Was told it was the dealer that failed. I believe the stain didn't Adhere to the concrete causing failure. Terrible company and the product was not what I ordered. I ordered 5 gallons of their "Black" acid stain to find out it was dark brown, which was not disclosed. I purchased black because that was the color I wanted, black. I pre ordered this product to do a large job in my home and it sat for about a month before I finished prepping the floors in my bedroom and bathroom. The product went on brown, no way around it, and when I contacted them they told me that I would have to pay the 150$ shipping to send it back, and they would not take the quarter used quart bottle that I used before realizing their mistake. The first person on the phone told me to apply it and seal it, afterward the product would turn black.....ridiculous. The second person argued with me that my monitor showed the color was wrong on their site.....the bottle says black.....the site says black... I don't care what the monitor does. Later they sent me to the manager who emailed me telling me that the product goes on in various "hues", being that I study art and color, this was a mistake to tell me to over saturate the product until it looked almost black. Long story short, I have 5 gallons of this EXPENSIVE acid and 5 gallons of sealer that I can't send back to them....crooks stay away. read more

Unfort. I will not be mean as I cannot determine if product was bad or human error in application on our part. All I can do is give my experience with thier Concrete stain. Purchased Mayan Buff and Coffee Brown stain to complete a countertop project. Did months of reading re-searched prior to application and felt we followed all manufacturer protocals. Last peice of our complete kitchen renovation "staining" the newly poured countertops after appropriate cure time took place. Outcome was a awfull RUSTY ORANGE, first thought that maybe the hard trowel finish caused the stain not to penetrate...but noticed that even the over-spray spills on the not yet tiled "older" concrete floor also turned completely rusty orange and also sanded completely off with ease and wiped away even after full curing time indicated for product and neutralized. Luckily we were able to salvage our work after being devastated and set back from what was suppose to be the end of a long project by sanding all the awfull orange off, cleaning...and purchased another product from different company and it worked perfectly as stated and is beautiful and my tears of disappointment are gone. There are extreme cautions on this product and as careful as was somehow some of the stain got over the lip of the gloves i was utilizing, it was not burning but thier website states that skin absorbtion can be fatal. As you can imagine i was concerned washed thoroughly and called the number on thier help site to see if i should be concerned. The women who answered the phone acted like she did not know a whole lot and put me on hold, when came back she chuckled and said, "you should be fine, I just wouldn't suggest ingesting it" and advised to wash with some baking soda. I did as directed and washed with baking soda and it wasn't till then it began to burn...so called poison control number...of whom also stated that i should just keep eye on it since it was mild discomfort and that the baking soda is probably what caused burn reaction when there wasn't one before and that baking soda is the worse thing to put on that kinda of chemical contact. read more
