Dippy the Dinosaur is a large sculpture of a Diplodocus dinosaur. The sculpture is located in front of the Carnegie Museum of Natural History.
I decided to create a separate Yelp page for Dippy because Yelp allows pages for public art, and because unlike the museum that requires an entry fee, Dippy is free for everybody to see.
In 1999, Dippy was constructed from fiberglass. He was built as a tribute to the 100th anniversary of the discovery of Diplodocus fossils in Wyoming. The original fossil is on display inside the museum. Dippy is life-sized at 22 feet tall, 84 feet long, and 3,000 pounds in weight.
When I walk or drive past the museum, I enjoy seeing how the employees decorated Dippy. Most recently, he was wearing a scarf for the cold weather. read more
