Went to this Dinosaur BBQ for lunch on this Memorial weekend Sunday. The place was not very busy at all. Most of the patrons there opted to do outdoor dining; inside was empty. The restaurant had a nice rustic decor as you would expect for a bbq place. My party ordered the Sweetheart Deal for 2 and the Deluxe Brisket platter. The meals was decent in size and meats were only average in taste. Smoke ring was barely noticeable as was confirmed by the lack of smoke in the flavor. Food in the NYC Dinosaur BBQ does not compare to the Dinosaur BBQ up in Syracuse; probably due to the NYC smoking restrictions in cooking food. Overall the meal was still good and filling. Delivery experience from DoorDash was great. I wish I could say the same about the food. I had a massive craving for bbq and ordered a full slab of ribs for myself. Typically, I might have a few left over after the initial assault, but I finish them before the night is through. In this case, I forced myself to eat half, and the rest went into the fridge. This is absolutely unheard of for me. The reason is threefold: 1. The skin stripped off like hard jerky. 2. Underneath, an extremely oily layer of fat. 3. No sauce. I even added extra sauce before I checked out on DoorDash. Didn't get any. I thought maybe the sides would satisfy me where the ribs could not; however, the mac 'n' cheese was lifeless, and it tasted like they accidentally put the wrong side in the cup first or maybe used the same spoon to ladle out multiple sides, because it had a weird vegetable-like undertone to it. The collard greens were more flavorful, but I wouldn't order them again. Very soupy. Cornbread had a decent texture, but the piece I got was very small. Taste-wise, meh. The brisket was ok. No big flavor. One of my friends back home at the bbq contest said it was "cut thicc like Gumby" which made me ROFL. I had been craving bbq so I stopped by before going home and grabbed some takeout here. I had been here and the Harlem location before but I hadn't had a chance to write a review. The fried green tomatoes are so delicious, and never greasy. I love the buttermilk ranch and the liberal sprinkling of pecorino Romano over the tomatoes. I also ordered a six piece wings but I had asked for them unsauced-half jerk glaze and half honey bbq. I got bbq sauce on the side but I think the wings were all jerk seasoned without jerk glaze on the side. They were still delicious but just a little tiny bit burnt. I got a small mac and cheese and potato salad as sides with it. Omg the Mac and cheese was so delicious. They sprinkled it with a bit of their rub and it made it even better. I'm from western NY (original location is in Syracuse) and have been to pretty much every Dino location across the state. They always put out a consistent product and hit my Americana BBQ craving when it hits. This is one of their larger locations with plenty of seating, though they do get busy at times. I split a variety of items on this visit, including brisket, pulled pork, Pitmaster burger, mac and cheese, baked beans, coleslaw, fries, and cornbread. Everything was delicious per usual, except for maybe the coleslaw. Even though it's obviously know for BBQ, don't sleep on the burgers. The Pitmaster is topped with burnt ends and it's just awesome. Since then I have only ever been to the Albany one as well but it seems like the experience is consistent across restaurants. Food quality is the number 1 reason I enjoy coming here. Speaking of the sausages you would be surprised at how potent the jalapeno cheddar sausages they have here are! Came here for the first time for my dad's birthday on a Sunday night. We made reservations for 5:30pm just in case it gets super crowded. When we got there, it was pretty full already. We then realized that the cornbread was missing so we waved our waitress down and asked her about it and she said the new batch was coming out. The food was really good. My favorite would be the ribs because they are so tender. My sister in law loves their brisket, but felt like they were cut a bit uneven so you get some thick and thin slices. After the dinner, we were debating about dessert and we decided to get a slice of cake for my dad. She told us they were out of everything except for the peanut butter pie. We somewhat hesitated but ordered it anyways. Our waitress was actually nice enough to find us a chocolate pie and gave that to us instead. This is the deal to get if you're coming with another person. $32 for a full rack and 4 sides. Thats a great deal if I ever saw one. Came here on a Wednesday night at around 930pm.
