The mushrooms were fresh and the meat options were also good. The relish board also came with fry bread and 2 dips which really stole the show! The fry bread and dips were incredible! I ordered the coffee crusted bison that was cooked perfectly and very tender. The white bean puree tasted just like mashed potatoes but with so much more flavor. Everything was seasoned perfectly but i felt the squash could have been cooked a little bit longer as they were a bit tough. The filet we ordered medium well came out medium rare but tasted good. Overall, our waitress Dakota was very accommodating, answered all of our questions and made sure we had everything we needed. The counter is so close to the entry door that only a few people can stand in the "lobby" before everyone gets pushed outside. You may be wondering why people were standing in line to pay & other people standing in the same line to order? It's because they leave your bill "open" like at a bar, just in case you want to purchase something else. When it was my turn to order and the young lady said they were keeping my card open, I told her to close it. A few reasons: 1) I don't trust people with my personal information unless I know you, 2) I was there to eat and leave, not shop around, and 3) with only one cash register, if this place got busy I'd have to wait in line *again* behind people coming in and people leaving just to close out my tab. Too much work -- just close my tab now. I ordered the burger. Kept it simple. Then walked to my table with my friend. She and I both noticed how hot it was in the dining room. Now mind you, there are wood tables and doors inside this woodfire restaurant. Some people sat outside, which is a nice option. I noticed the food people had ordered and what was actually eaten. I do this at every restaurant I visit. Many people ordered the flatbread pizza, but many of them had it boxed. While one lady was putting hers in a box, I saw how burnt the bottom of her pizza was. Now the food arrives. Her Nashville hot chicken had a chicken breast the size of a weightlifter's pec. The oil used to fry the chicken tasted old -- and yes, I know they just opened, but it's clear they haven't changed the oil since. You can tell when restaurant oil is old because it tastes burnt. Because some of the batter falls off the chicken and gets into the oil and continues to cook. Those bits and pieces of batter, and sometimes chicken, continue to cook. The flavor changes and the oil gets dirty in appearance, shifting both its color and its taste to bitter and burnt -- which is how the chicken tasted. I ordered a medium-well hamburger. It came out raw. At that point I realized whoever was cooking is not a chef but an employee told to cook. But what I didn't know was about to happen -- and that's what prompted this review. I kindly told the server my burger was raw, not medium-well. She apologized and said it would get corrected. Well, their way of correcting it was to slice the burger in half and grill it. How did I know it was sliced in half? By the way it looked when it came back. I noticed the burger wasn't as thick as when I first ordered it. Despite this, I took a bite. Then I realized I was right. I opened the sandwich, flipped the patty over, and there it was -- evidence of a half burger, sliced. The bottom side wasn't grilled. If you've ever cooked a burger and cut it in half longways, you know the cut portion isn't cooked directly. The result is that the top has that grilled look while the inner part looks more steamed. That's exactly how it looked. My friend said I should've taken a picture before giving it back, but I wasn't planning to write a review -- until the manager lied to me. After the burger went back to the kitchen a second time, I was ready to leave. My friend left the remainder of her Dino bird, and we walked to the cashier for a refund. A lady walked over, presumably a manager, and asked what the issue was. I politely shared my findings. She sweetly said, "Maybe it was smashed." I said that doesn't make sense -- the burger is already cooked, and smashing it wouldn't make one side look grilled and the other baked. She said, "We used a woodfire oven, so that's why it looked like that." I said my first burger was grilled on both sides. At this point I was done. She said, again in that nice voice, "Well, I hope you come back and try the pizza. It's really good." In my mind, all I could think about was that burnt bottom, the horrible burger, and the breast of a pterosaur. I told her kindly, "We won't be back." I requested a refund for the burger. We were refunded. And then we left.
