One of our flights...

We had thought we were savvy. We had thought other whiskey tours would be enough to teach us what we wanted to know. We had been so, so wrong. This whiskey bar had it all-- thoughtful flights, anything from deeply traditional to wildly experimental whiskeys and from Irish to Japanese whiskeys and everything between. The best part by far was our deeply knowledgeable server who helped us sort out what to try next and where to buy bottles of the whiskeys we liked best. This is one of my five stars that makes me wish I gave five stars less often... Because this place deserves it more than most.

I came across this place after leaving The Porterhouse pub yesterday. My husband and I are both quite into whiskey, so we thought we would pop our heads in and take a gander. Well, our gander turned into two glasses of whiskey, ha ha. The inside of the pub is quite narrow, so I'd say the more popular this place gets, it'll be pretty packed on Friday and Saturday evenings. The side wall is made out of the wood from old whikey barrels, with "founding fathers" of Dingle Whiskey printed onto the side of them. The barstools are also made out of parts of old whiskey barrels as well. They have a pretty good selection of whiskeys. The whiskey menu alone was about 4 pages although the text was small as you can see in the photos. They offered a few craft beers on their menu, and although it wasn't listed on the menu, they seemed to be making cocktails the night we were there. They do serve their own Whiskey - Dingle Whiskey - there for 4.90 euros a glass. It was pretty nice and smooth like most Irish whiskeys. All in all a nice pub if you really like your whiskey. We realised afterwards that it is actually connected to one side of the porterhouse. So you can actually go back and forth between the two. Although, I'm pretty sure for the food you have to stay on the porterhouse side.

Well this looks rather inviting

Really nice cosy little bar, attached onto the larger Porterhouse bar. This isn't evident from the outside and I guess is a little bit of a shame when you get in, as initially it looks like an independent little cave-like pub that could have been there for years without us noticing. However, for some this mightn't be a bad thing - for those who aren't into spirits (they serve some other spirits like Dingle gin as well), as you can go into the Porterhouse and get a beer and bring it back in if they need. It was really busy when I was in there - a couple of days before Christmas - so it was hard to judge the staff, though if I WAS going to, I would say that they were pretty brisk and not super friendly. BUT it was crazy in there, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt! One other thing that might be cool would be if they made whiskey cocktails which they don't do at the moment. All in all though, really nice vibe - lovely dim lighting and they've done a great job with making an unusual space into a really nice place to while away a few hours on a really good selection of whiskeys.

A G&T in the Dingle Whiskey Bar

A fairly new addition to Nassau street, The Dingle Whiskey Bar is a chilled out oasis beside the Porterhouse. I say hall, because the bar is quite literally a narrow hallway with a bar on one side and some snugs at the back. Not necessarily a bad thing though as it's cosy, intimate and allows you take in the surroundings with ease. The noise from the porterhouse spills into the bar, creating some much needed atmosphere without being intrusive and the bar staff are super friendly. It's pricey enough but the selection of whiskeys is great, a decent stock of gin (with epic presentation!) and they throw in a few wine and cider options for those with a weaker stomach! There's a bit of a weird seating layout but otherwise the place is faultless for a chilled out catch up or post-eats whiskey. Definitely a place to warm up on a cold winter evening!

Redbreast 12 :)

Excellent choice of whiskeys and bourbons, relaxed atmosphere, low lighting, perfect location, nice crowd, friendly and informative barman...what more can one say. This whiskey bar is quite a new establishment and is connected to the Porterhouse Bar, next door. The other half and I came by it by chance one evening after a busy day in town and, my my, it was the perfect choice. It's fusion of past-meets-contemporary, its alluring window display, lounge music and the fact that we were literally entering a whiskey barrel, sold it to us. In all honesty I'm not a whiskey drinker, my knowledge of whiskey is limited and having seen the drinks menu I was a little lost for choice. Although, the barman was very friendly and took a minute to provide a little history lesson on whiskeys and filled us in on the flavours. We ended up sipping on a Redbreast 12, which is a delicious Irish whiskey packed full of flavour. Think the barman said the rye gives that its kick. Next came a Scotch and then a bourbon. Eventually we decided to try a Rochefort 10 barley wine (bought next door) which was a very strong beer (11.3%) made in Belgium by the Trappist Monks. Although this is a whiskey bar, you also have available an exceptional choice of worldwide commercial and craft beers beers which can be brought in from the Porterhouse Bar next door. Overall it was a taste experience!

Great selection

It might be a 5 but I am not sure about the storage of said single malts. Oxidisation and light is not a friend and this is not my opinion but fact. The selection here is certainly the best in Dublin and probably the best mix of Irish and Scottish I have come across. Now I ordered I nice single malt and am asked if I want Ice? No I do not want ice and may I dwell in a desert henceforth. Take your ice and send to those poor penguin's.

Very cute small little whiskey bar attached to The Porterhouse. They have a huge selection of whiskeys from 5€ up to over 100€ per order. Most are reasonably priced. They also offer several flight tastings. The place is small so fills up early, you can always get your drink & wander into the Porterhouse for a seat.

Decor! Nice Task Feeling

Half star - where are you when I need it!!! Ha ha... Recently visited for the first time and from the outside I was super impressed and initially on entering it was as snug and rustic as I'd expected but for me, slightly disappointed to see if opened at the back to actually form part of the PorterHouse. Got to applaud them on their range of whiskey, the menus were endless... As a group of 4, 2 of us not so keen on neat whiskey, asked if any whiskey based cocktails could be whipped up... Super friendly barman was like, we don't do cocktails but I can make ye something I know, so he rambled off a few and on we went, boys enjoyed a neat whiskey and the ladies, well we had the yummiest concoction! This barman was super nice and boy god, he knew his whiskey but wasn't intimating about it! For our next round, dam! New barman... Other guy was finished his shift and the dude replacing him was a doosch! We tried to order the same and he was having none of it, on edge my friend said ok we'll go back to the 'drawing table' and he was corrected in the most condescending way that it was 'drawing BOARD' so condescending he needed to say it twice! In sync all 4 of us was like, eh, let's get outta here which we did and hit another bar to finish our evening off Shame!

Small cosy bar that's part of Porterhouse Central / Lillie's Bordello. Immense selection of whiskey (obv!) and they recently won Irish Whiskey Bar of the year for 2015 )Leinster. Barman was relatively pleasant. I ordered a fish bowl gin cocktail (Bowler Hat) as it was only the start of the evening and I didn't want to start with neat whiskey.. He told me that the gin was out of stock but rather than offer to substitute it I had to ask if that could be done. The cocktail was decent but the raspberries kept breaking up and clogging up my straw. It's not like he was under pressure to serve other customers - we were there fairly early on a Saturday evening. I would say the service is on par with Porterhouse Central. Just OK.

Finish to a night of design and cocktails

I'm a bit torn between three and four stars but for now I settled for just three but am open to correction up at a later point. Yesterday was the second time I was in there. The first time was rather to have some space to sit as the Porterhouse was so crowded and we were a group of five. So we got our drinks in the Porterhouse. This time I decided to have a look at their whiskey list. I'm not overly knowledgeable about whiskey (I tasted a couple but wouldn't really be able to tell which style or distillery I'd prefer) so i just went for one that sounded nice ;-) And it was! The list of whiskeys is surely impressive and a good way to get to know whiskey. They've tastings on Tuesday evenings and if I happen to be around town then I am very inclient to go there and learn more. And I like the interior design a lot there. The explanation for the three stars: I did notice the music already the first time I was there but can't say if was in your face. This time though it was very loud and jazz - so not neccessarily easy to listen too and to me rather disturbing.

I really like this place. I've been here a couple of times now and I always sit by the window with all the bottles of whiskey on the other side - and dream. Seriously, the selection is great and it's all adequately priced. You can also have a quick word with the person behind the counter and they'll be happy to help you find exactly what you feel like. There's a noisier bar on the other side of this, but it doesn't really spill over. So if you want to grab a quiet drink, or if you want to make a triple tasting of similarly priced Whiskey, Scotch and Bourbon, or just hang out with a small group of friends, this place is great.

Bri C.

Amazing!! Tourist here and the service was so great. I had the Roses are Red (a gin cocktail) and my friend did one of the many whiskey flights. They were both delicious and the selection is great. We also got some good tips on what to do/see while in Ireland.

It feels a bit weird writing a public review of a secret spot...but I can't gatekeep this spot!…read more The Blind Pig Speakeasy was one of our favorite spots while in Ireland, and it ranks high on our list for several reasons! They are situated in the base of a sister restaurant, so from the main entrance the only give away is the neon "shhh" sign that sits over the stairway. Once at the base of the stairs an unassuming bookcase/shelf appears. This honestly got us, as we had no clue this was the entrance at first. We wandered around and into the bathrooms expecting some cool bathroom stall entrance. It wasn't until someone came out from behind the bookcase that we figured it out! We did let the "door" close and played with the art on the wall, including the bronze pig head, which turned out to be the hidden lever! Legit already wowed before entering! Upon entry, you are legit transported into a small speakeasy with a few high tops, a cozy bar and a small dining room beyond the second archway. The walls are stone, the lighting is dim and moody, the woods are heavy, and the vibes are immaculate! We sampled a few house-made cocktails, got an appetizer and a few main dishes. Spent a total of close to 2 hours, which is standard and actually timed. Which makes sense and I like, it keeps things moving, on time and allows plenty of time to soak it all in! The Jolly Roger and Espresso Martini were my cocktails for the night. There was a clear theme with both, as stout and espresso were highlights in both. For the app, we went with the fritto misto, which is a combination of fried cheese and veggies. Our mains were both pasta dishes. They were light and simple, yet complex and robust. They were tasty and impressive! Service was stellar from entry to exit. The host's, bartenders and our server were all top notch, friendly, helpful and a joy to interact with! Oh, I do highly recommend reservations! They are a small and very in demand spot, so trying to walk-in is a bit risky. Overall, we absolutely loved our evening at The Blind Pig! It was one of our best times and meals on our trip around Ireland...memorable for all the right reasons!

Tucked down Dame Court just off Dame Street, The Stag's Head is one of those rare pubs that feels genuinely historic rather than designed to look old. The building dates to the late 1800s, and the interior retains the ornate features of a classic Victorian "gin palace"--rich carved wood, stained glass, brass rails, and a warm, glowing bar that feels wonderfully preserved. We stopped in around 4:30 pm, which turned out to be a perfect time to visit. There were other patrons enjoying drinks and food, but the atmosphere was calm and relaxed rather than loud or rowdy. It felt like the kind of place where locals drop in for a quiet pint on their way home from work before the evening crowd arrives. The staff were excellent--friendly, welcoming, and attentive without being intrusive. The food was very good (we failed to take photos because we were too busy enjoying it). As a vegetarian, I was thrilled to see the Impossible burger front and center on their menu; it was deliciously prepared with guacamole on a brioche bun, and not an afterthought on the menu. My companions both chose the Irish Beef Burger, and said it was excellent. One thing to know: this is a traditional Victorian pub, so cocktails aren't really part of the program. Expect beer, wine, or spirits rather than mixed drinks. In a place like this, that actually feels exactly right. Other pubs do serve mixed drinks. Between the history, the ambience, the quality of the food, and the wonderful staff, The Stag's Head is the kind of place that makes you feel like you've experienced a real piece of Dublin.

Well, we never made it. On our way, we saw a small sign that said, "Whiskey room", and we both were pulled by magnetic forces into the small room. When I tell you that the 2ish hours we spent here were some of the best memories of our trip, I am not exaggerating. The bartender Dillon (Dylan?) was amazing. He knew his stuff and recommended some wonderful whiskeys that we had never tried before. Our favorite was Dunville's. (Thanks a lot, Dillon/Dylan, we can't find it in the states!!!! lol) Also, he poured the first Guinness of our trip, and it was 10/10 the best Guinness I've ever had in my life. (After drinking LOTS of them over the month we spent in Ireland, it's still the best pint I had.) The bar/room is very small, and there were only 5 or 6 seats around the bar. It was cozy, quiet (until the small group that had assembled there bust out into a rendition of "Tom's Diner"), and exactly what we were looking for. My recommendation is to skip Temple Bar, and make your way into this gem. It was absolutely amazing.
