Being the first of this event to happen in Adelaide, there was a LOT of hype surrounding le Diner en Blanc - Adelaide 2013. There were a lot of people (me included), who had never heard of this event prior to its announcement for Adelaide. But it soon created a LOT of hype :)
People were buying up/hiring all of the white clothing, shoes, hats, table cloths, chairs, napkins and table center decorations that there were to be had in Adelaide.
My guest and I, put weeks of planning into this event. We planned out the menu, the table decorations, what we were going to wear :) a lot of the fun in this event for us was in the planning :)
The idea of the event is that it is an elegant picnic in white, in a secret, public location. You meet at a particular spot around the city, register with your table leader, get on a bus, and then are driven to the secret location. It is only after you get on the bus, that you are told where the location is.
It is a requirement that you dress in elegant white :) All white, clothes, shoes, hats, everything white :) It is also a requirement that you take with you a card table (or table of similar size), with white table cloth and napkins (linen) and two white chairs (or chairs with white chair covers) and an elegant picnic dinner :)
When we purchased our tickets, we selected the Adelaide city location - as we had discovered the event through Yelp! :) However, two days before we got an email to say our pick up location had moved, to the corner of Frome Rd and Victoria Drive. Now, we had been talking about possible locations for this event to be held in Adelaide, and this change in location confirmed my suspicions about the secret location, and as it turns out, I was right :) it was the Zoo!! :)
The only thing that I think could have been organised a little better was the actual arrival of people into the event. Things got a little confused with who was going where - and there was a bit of a bottle neck with people setting up. But this really was a minimal issue, and I am sure it will be ironed out if the event is to return :)
The band, who were the entertainment for the evening were FANTASTIC!! And the FunSnapMe team who were present, printing peoples instagram photos tagged with #debadl was brilliant :)
All in all I think the evening was a great success :) and I REALLY hope that the event will be back next year :)
From my experience with various events in Adelaide, I know how much work must have gone into the event. As a result I wish to say a HUGE congratulations to all those involved in organising this event :) It was wonderful :) read more
