Several decades ago I went to elementary school around the corner from Dimitri's (RIP St. Mel's) and have many fond memories of riding my bike or roller blading over to Dimitri's with my friends to grab a Crystal Pepsi, WarHeads and Tearjerkers candy (to see who could hold the most of those sour candies in their mouths for the longest, of course. Honestly, my mouth is puckering just thinking about it).
My mom hasn't lived in the area for a few years so I haven't had much occasion or need to pop in here but the other day I found myself passing by as I was running errands and, dying of thirst and in need of a bit of a caffeine jolt, I stopped in to get a pop. Alas, gone are the days of the Crystal Pepsi but I was pleased to still see all the candy options nearly as I remembered them. These days, I also took notice of the fully stocked liquor and beer options (something I did not pay attention to at 12 years old). It's not a huge store but it's got a great, curated selection with really good prices.
Not sure if it's the same family that owned it back in the 90s but they did a great job maintaining and updating the shop as the years have gone by. Clean facility and friendly staff. A great neighborhood shop! read more
