They charge over double MSRP on bourbon bottles. A 100$ bottle is 200$ there. They're a joke and extremely rude when called out on it.

Was insulted by the guy behind the register. For some reason he thought I was the person that parked for a long time in front of the store today. Said I was a shitty person for taking up a space like that. I had parked blocks away and walked there specifically to get a drink prior to going to a local festival. When I stated he was mistaken he doubled down on calling me a shitty human being. After showing him my key that was not the make of car I was accused of driving he decided to be ok with me buying something. I've been coming here for a while and yesterday, i saw a post on their facebook and instagram about the New Riff Balboa Rye. They said its available and first come, first serve. So i immediately and hurried to their store, got to the counter and told them that i would like to purchase the bottle. But they wouldn't let me buy it because they wanted me to a different bottle of liquor in order to buy the New Riff Balboa Rye which they didn't mentioned it at all on their post. So they tried to force me into buying a bottle of liquor that i didn't like and want at all. I cant believe they're tried to con me like that, what a shady place. Owners/workers are super cool and prices are competitive. Every time I go in there, I'm treated like family and always have a good laugh. Store is very clean and easy to navigate with a large, diverse selection of liquor, beer and seltzers, with some unique choices mixed in. Is it bad to have so many liquor store reviews on my profile? I actually really like this place. They have a very good beer selection, including a lot of microbrews and locals (though they don't have Dark Horse - boo), and their prices are reasonable on the standard stuff like Miller Lite. I'm definitely no wine expert but they have a crapload of wine choices, aisles and aisles and aisles! And the liquor selection is seriously off the hook. If it exists, they have it. Ceiling to floor, wall to wall, and behind the counter too. Wow! I have been wanting to learn how to make a good mai tai, something tells me they'll have everything I need. They also have ceiling-to-counter protective plexiglass, which makes you wonder if they've had problems up there or if that's a holdover from when Ferndale used to be shadier (it's practically in Pleasant Ridge, please). They also have what looks like a wide selection of dirty magazines and porno movies in the front corner of the store, right next to the window! So, feel free to browse if you want everyone walking by to snicker! That's why I didn't browse, so I can't comment on the selection there. It sure looked like a lot, as I snickered my way out the front door while pretending not to look. Anyway, whatever your vice may be - they have ya covered! read more

Walked to Rainbow Liquor since it was in the neighborhood and despite the reviews I've seen. I was at the counter to purchase 2 bud light beers (lime) This gentleman told me my total and I gave him my debit card. He then said that he need to see my Driver License, which was no biggie since it was already in my hand. ‍ Personally I thought he was checking to make sure I wasn't underage and that the credit card that I used for this purchase was indeed mine. But no, he slid my identification on some machine. I then asked him what he was sliding my ID for, he ignored me. I then asked again what he was sliding my ID for, he continued to ignore me, charged my card, and then placed my card and receipt in the change part.... As if I hadn't muttered a word to him. I then told him to refund my money. He said "why?" I replied "Because you didn't tell me that you were going to scan my ID, I wouldn't of consented to it had you answered me". He then said "We scan everybodies ID". Which for a fact I know is a lie because he didn't even ask the two MEN ahead of me for identification at all! I replied "That's fine but had you told me that you were going to scan my ID I wouldn't of purchased anything!" He then told me that there's no refund on beer, so there's nothing he can do. I said "Alright, I'll just call the police" That's when the older guy came over to try to rectify the situation but instead was telling me how dumb I was for wanting the refund. The younger was steady talking shit to me until the older guy told him to stop talking to me. But he kept on saying how if I would of went to Meijer's they would of done the same thing, I replied "That's why I don't go to Meijer's". I understand that Ferndale is LBGT community friendly, but people (staff workers) shouldn't allow their sexual preference to treat others badly because they aren't their preference. If they were more consistent with their ID check i would of understood, I would of even understood if he explained that he "HAVE" to scan everyone's ID. But I will NEVER understand disrespect from anyone especially when dealing with finances and my personal information!!! DO NOT SHOP HERE!! I dig this place. They have a ton of merch and while it may be a little cramped inside the store their stock is inclusive. Their beer cooler offers a huge selection, they have aisles of wine, and a proper wall of boozy delights. I came in last night and there wasn't a soul in sight but once someone surfaced he was friendly and helpful to the end that he talked me out of a 1/5th for $70 and let me know that the pint was only $30 (a 1/5th for $60...deal) saving me a little coin. If you can get past the bulletproof carousel this is an outstanding spot to grab patty favors. read more

I also understand that if you're one of the only liquor stores in the area that is caring a specific beverage, then you have some wiggle room as to how much you charge your customers. I don't understand though, how you charge LITERALLY double (not including tax) the state mandated price. Reviews of a liquor store! Lol. No complaints here. The guys working here always seem nice. Ask how you are doing, tell you to have a nice day. Not too much to ask. As far as over charging, who knows...It seems consistent with every other place so I'm not suspicious. The one thing about this place that gets me is how quiet it is when you walk in. I swear, it is like walking into a library. No radio, no TV's. Complete silence. And when i walk I guess the floor shakes a little because I hear bottles rattle (I'm 6'2") , and I feel like one is going to fall off the shelf or something. Anyway, decent place. read more

Last week I stopped in to grab a 6 pack of some cider, I found 2 6 packs that sounded good and went to the register. While at the register I noticed most liquor is not at state minimum and asked about a bottle and the guy told me no it is not state minimum and is way over state minimum because it's a special bottle. While being rung up the total was way higher then it was supposed to be and they tried to charge me deposit on non returnable bottles I asked about it and the guy said "O sorry cousin I didn't mean to over charge you". I didn't know we were cousins. I used to shop here all the time and now will never be back, they over charge a lot and make everything taxable even food so watch your receipts. read more

Probably the best Ferndale liquor store. Stellar beer choice, tons of wine, all the liquor you could ever ask for. Plus on top of that, you have munchies, mixers and everything in between. Rainbow liquor is located at the end of my street, but I'll continue to avoid this place at all costs! I'll continue to go a bit out of my way to Heights Food Mart on Woodward Heights. I highly HIGHLY recommend you do too! They have a better selection, better prices, and more importantly - incredible staff. Though Rainbow has a decent selection of wine and beer, it's very overpriced. The store is dirty and grimy and the staff are not always pleasant. I recently had a horrific experience when I parked in front of Rainbow Liquor store to attend a yoga class. When I returned to my car 90 minutes later, 2 male staff members (one I'd guess in 60's and the other in mid-30's) were waiting next to my car. The younger man began screaming at me at the top of his lungs that there's a 30 minute limit, and accused me of having parked there "all day" in front of several patrons. Typically parking along Woodward in Ferndale usually either has parking meters, or it's free. Apparently this spot had a 30 minute limit. Not to mention, there were 6 parking spaces. None of the spots were filled when I parked, and only 2 were filled (including) mine when I returned. The young man finished accosting me by yelling some explicatives then walked back into the store. The older man just sat there and gave me filthy looks until I pulled way. I was certainly at fault for parking there for 90 minutes. I truly didn't know there was a 30 minute limit, but I would've much rather gotten a parking ticket than get accosted and humiliated that way by two unfamiliar men. I just don't think it is ever okay to for grown men to approach a woman with such hostility and angst. I genuinely feel this extreme reaction wouldn't have even been warranted had I driven my car into their store. read more
