I was traveling with a friend in Europe for 2 weeks, a week had passed and we were already craving for some Asian food. DIM SUM SAM is on the outskirt of the town centre area but we saw it had got some good reviews, decided to take a long walk to this restaurant.
There was no English menu, but they did have a "suggestion" menu and there were not too many options either way.
The Dim Sum platter was basically a bamboo basket with 2x har gao (shrimping dumpling), 2x siu mai (shrimp and pork dumpling), 2x some types of vege dumplings and a pork bun. The har gao was the most authentic out of all, but honestly none of these was too out of bounce. The pork bun was not the expected BBQ pork version but got a hint of Sichuan spiciness to it.
The broccoli was the most interesting dish.... have never seen that being served in a bamboo basket, it was actually slightly stir-fried with some soy sauce/garlic instead of steaming. Hey, it tasted good!
We also ordered two types of crepes.... both tasted nothing like traditional Chinese rice rolls but the one with crab meat + soy sauce tasted kind of nice.
The papaya salad was super, super spicy..... we asked for mild spicy but turned out to be the spiciest papaya salad I have ever had. If you are a mild spicy kind of person, please just ask for non-spicy.
Overall, it was a pretty interesting experience. I would not call this place a fusion Chinese cuisine, but dim sum with a twist in a good and surprising way here and there? read more
