One of the many great products available at stores in Indy!
Ann L.

I've not had a chance to visit their location in Bloomington, but wanted to give a shout out to their excellent products that are available at Market District and a few other grocery stores in the Indianapolis area. I love their berry preserves and the amaretto cherry is amazing too! The tomato preserves (stay with me here...) is fabulous with fresh mozzarella or a burrata on crackers for a quick appetizer. The apple butter is wonderful as well. At $4.99 a jar at the grocery store it's a great and very affordable local product. I've added jars of their preserves, fruit butters, etc. to family holiday gift bags for years now and they all get rave reviews. I've had a few family members even put in "orders" for specific varieties that have become favorites. Even if you're just shopping at the grocery store these days, it is still possible to support local businesses!

My family and I ventured down to Bloomington as part of our trip to Brown County for camping. Had…read morenever been here, and we found this co-op per the recommendations of a local art gallery owner. Bloomingfoods is a co-op. You pay a membership fee, and the workers there are part of the ownership. Immediately, you are hit with warmth and just that coziness you want in a local grocery store. Whole Foods ambiance but not corporate. There is a deli and a hot/cold foods bar. Produce and plenty of plant-based options to choose from. We definitely enjoyed the experience .

After 14 years as a loyal customer, I canceled my membership at Bloomingfoods today. I won't…read moresupport a business that tolerates bullying and ignores people who speak up against it. Anyone who shops here knows unfriendly, rude cashiers are a long-standing norm. But this goes far beyond that. I witnessed deli employees openly mocking and laughing at a customer for wearing glasses, including using fake voices and calling them "nerdy." It was cruel, public bullying of someone who appeared to have an eye disability. The stuff of Disney schoolyard villains. Truly an insane thing to witness from grown men in work uniform on the clock. Here's the really disturbing thing... Leadership didn't even care. I reported it immediately and followed up many times (phone, email, website form, social) asking for leadership to respond. The marketing manager assured me that leadership was well aware of the incident. Two weeks later, I still haven't gotten a single response. I won't support a business that tolerates bullying and ignores people who speak up against it. Vote with your money and shop at the Bloomington Farm Stop Collective, where you can get local food AND be treated with basic human dignity.

It's with a heavy heart that I write this. I'm probably not going any more. I had high hopes. Often…read moreAldi would embarrass other grocers with great prices and staples we use frequently. Sometimes, their special buys might be interesting. Now, they're only an aisle of someone's unsold carbohydrates. Pickle-flavored popcorn. We'd buy some of their cheeses. Now they're not competitive. There might be bay scallops, even tofu pot stickers. No more. Once in a rare while, there might be inexpensive avocados and yes, there were some this week. But many other staples we bought are gone, or can be found cheaper up and down the street. Their aisles are clogged, but their merchandise comes twice a week, and specials are sold out quickly; they offer no rainchecks. With barely a single cashier, you have to love their automated checkout or wait in long lines. Their staff are worked really hard; it's a good job if you like exercise. I don't find them as deceptive or mercurial as Kroger, who tries to dominate Monroe County. A recent remodel seems to have shrunken available merchandise diversity. What merchandise they have has increased in price paralleling and exceeding their competition. I wish I could say better. I love competition.

When on the road for a few days or more, I usually end up at a grocery store for supplies. This grocery store is close to Gayle's Son's house and was easy to get in, navigate, and leave. Nice prices too. The Inventory remined me a little bit of Grocery Outlet, except I think ALDI selections are a little more timely. If I lived here, this ALDI would probably serve as supplemental shopping to a larger store like Kroger. The items here are more basic for the home, but in smaller sizes than say Costco. ALDI is also different than a Trader Joe's which strikes me as offering more specialty items to a more disposable income crowd. I could be all wrong here, but my pattern is to regularly shop across at least a few stores.
