    Lamb Dish. It was amazing.
    Mo Y.

I had dinner at this place for the first time . It is hard to tell that there used to be an African restaurant there. They need time do something about the sign or add another sign on the front window mentioning African Food. The lamb dish was beyond amazing and the service was the best. The lady that Owns the place was extremely friendly. It was such a beautiful experience having such a delicious dish with African music too. I love this place and I will be back.

Food: Okra Soup / Soup Kanja palm oil, fresh okra pods, seafood, beef and vegetables and served with a choice of rice or fufu. Service: Food is freshly made to order so don't come here if you're in a hurry. Friendly. Ambiance: seating is mainly for 2-4 people from what I could tell. Finally found a Nigerian spot out in this way! Soup was delicious! My friend got Lamb Dibi (sorry didn't get a pic) but it was flavorful and tender! Jollof rice was delicious as well. I'll be back!

This place specializes in African food, specifically West African, more on Gambia and Senegal to be precise. I went here with a friend on a Monday dinner and there was ample seating - just pick and choose where you want. There are a few issues which is why I leave a 3 stars, as opposed to a 5 stars with regards to how delicious the food is: 1. Wait times for food are painstakingly long. If I waited for the server to take our order, we would have waited 25 minutes to put the order in. So we placed and paid the order online and was quoted 30 minutes for the food to be ready. In the end, it was close to 1 hour wait. 2. Prices online are way higher than the menu I saw in person. Lamb didi in the menu was $16.99 while I paid $22 before tax and tip online. I felt a bit ripped off, seeing the discrepancy, so I was not as inclined to tip more as the prices online felt like they were inclusive of gratuity, and even accounting for any surcharges to operate transactions online We got the lamb didi with fried plantains and the domoda with findi. The lamb is nicely chopped and grilled, with the fried plantains extra flavorful with some added crispiness. The price was high given we only got 5 tiny lamb pieces. This same goes for domoda, which is a Gambian peanut stew - only a few tiny pieces of beef. However, the peanut stew is amazing and the findi (a smaller version of couscous) is a good pairing for the dish. Prices are high for what you get, though the food is delicious. Again, online ordering felt like a huge rip off compared to placing an order in person, if you manage to be patient and have lots of time. That is my biggest complaint, but I would not rule against trying this place out as the food is something you won't really be able to get that commonly elsewhere, and knowing to order 1+ hr before your intended meal time would be a good idea.

A friend invited to try this place out. I've never had West African food before, so this is a first for me. I'm surprised to find this place so close to me. And I have to say that I got to give this place some love because the food is pretty solid. So first off, the place is pretty small. I remember this place use to be a teriyaki shop, but I guess COVID got them and now it's become this West African restaurant that I would like to go to more often. So I ordered the Benachin because I saw the pictures online and it immediately got my attention. Rice is nice! My friend got the Lamb Dibi which he split with me which is a funny story actually. His order didn't get submitted for some reason and we were waiting forever for it. We asked the service about it and they told us what happened, so he got his dish pretty late. We ended up sharing both of our dishes which was kind of nice cause I got to try the Lamb. Both dishes were really good. Fries could be better, but you're really not here for the fries. A very unique cuisine with unique flavors. I enjoyed this place a lot. I highly recommend checking it out. The food is delicious and it's nice to try an unfamiliar cuisine. Also, it's good to support your local hole-in-the-wall restaurants, especially if they be hitting you with that flavor.

I wanted to love this place, but just couldn't. Service was incredibly slow, it took forever for them to take our order and about 45 minutes until we received our food. We had to remind them several times - the restaurant was not even busy. The soups were incredibly oily, to the point that you couldn't taste the actual flavors of the dish

Lamb Dibi: grilled well-marinated bone in lamb ($16.99).

Amazing African cuisine is served here but be prepared for a long wait after placing orders at the front counter. Inside had ample seating but only a couple of tables were occupied on a Saturday mid-afternoon. It took at least forty minutes before our food was served. A party that was already seated when we arrived had been waiting for over an hour, and another had not received their take-out order past the estimated pickup time. Upset tables cancelled their orders and left. We chose from the Signature Dishes which includes a choice of small salad, side of rice, Vermicelli, sweet potato fries, regular fries, or fried plantains. Both were flavorful, well-portioned, and had tender meat. ----- Lamb Dibi: grilled well-marinated bone in lamb ($16.99). ----- Benachin: Jollof rice choice of fish or lamb ($16). ----- Although the food took a while to come, the staff was apologetic for the slowness. Outside has a parking lot with enough spaces.

I love my African cuisine. Customer service was awesome. Thank you for being patient and explaining all the food variations. Will be back.

This was my first time trying and so glad it was a great experience. The selection was good I looked at their menu online to see photos of what I was ordering and the food came out looking exactly like what was pictured. The flavor was rich and I liked how each dish came with a small salad. I got the lamb Dibi with plantain and a side of jollof rice (not pictured) and my friend and I split the meat and shrimp pies. Everything was seasoned well and just delicious. The service was friendly and prompt. The ambiance is nice it's quaint with beautiful artwork placed about. The restaurant was not very crowded, but there were tons of to go orders going out. My friend really enjoyed her food as well. We will be back for sure. Happy to support!

My first time at an authentic African restaurant. This is a full service restaurant. I ordered take out as I was on my way to the airport to go home to NJ. I could kick myself for not finding this place earlier in my stay. It smelled so good in the restaurant and there were so many tasty sounding items on the menu. I ordered the okra stew w/fufu and jollof rice. The smells coming from the bag were too tempting. I actually stopped so I could get a taste of the stew. If I would have had the time I would have eaten it all right there on the side of the road. So delicious. I did not like the fufu. Never had it before, so I don't think it was the restaurant's fault. I am going to Africa in January, I will come back and update if the fufu is better. Once I got to the airport, I tore into the jollof rice. Tasty, but better once I mixed it with the okra stew. Overall, delicious and I will definitely go back when I am in the Seattle area again.

I haven't had much West African food in the past so when we were looking for some new food to try…read moreout over the weekend, we came across Bantaba. As other reviews state, this is kind of a strange restaurant that seems more like it's for regulars rather than new customers. There's no actual printed menu other than hints of a menu on the signboard above the register (and we confirmed this with the cashier). I guess this is to save on cost, which coincidentally also allows them to adjust pricing on the fly? There are photos posted of the menu from 2024, but my guess is those are of an old pre-COVID menu, given that the prices increased over 50% at this point. Per other reviews, dine-in orders are also packaged in takeout boxes and can take a variable amount of time to cook. We don't usually get takeout much, but decided to call in an order for this visit. This was at around 5PM on Saturday and we were promised a 30 minute wait. We arrived 30 minutes later, paid for the order, and it ended up taking about another 10 minutes. Not too bad. Benechin Beef ($18.99) - As I learned, benechin is essentially a different term for the more commonly known (at least in the US) jollof rice. In this case, the rice has a deep tomato and spiced umami that combines a pleasant saltiness with a heat level that builds and builds. It's topped with a small side of cabbage that seems to be stewed in the same spices as the rice. There's then a piece of yucca root, stewed but still rather toothsome with fiber strands all in one direction like muscle grains. For the beef, they include four pieces of thinly sliced barbecued meat. The meat is extremely flavorful with what seems to be a black pepper and allium based spice mixture. In terms of texture, it's quite tough and chewy, almost to the level of beef jerky. (4/5) Afra Lamb ($20.99) - This dish comes with a choice of rice or salad, not both as the older menu states. We went with the rice which comes in a smaller container and is a long grain rice cooked until perfectly fluffy. It's cooked with salt, which is something that I'm not used to. The larger container includes a mound of bone-in lamb meat doused in a savory and tangy mustard based sauce. The meat is a very interesting mixture of off-cuts, a combination of cross-cut ribs, shanks, lamb chops, and some random other cuts. The lamb is mostly bone in and there are tons of small bone shards all over the meat, making it a bit of a pain to eat. The meat isn't very gamey and all and is much more tender as compared to the beef jerky in the benechin. On top of the lamb, they include mustard infused softened onions and whole quick-charred onion rings, resulting in a still crunchy texture. They include some powdered dried chilis is a small pile hidden under the onions. Be careful - it's starts out smoky like paprika to start and the heat only starts to build after a couple of seconds. (4/5) Bantaba is a great place to try some new food. While it's not the most beginner friendly restaurant, it offers some flavors and dishes that are hard to find around Seattle. When we went on a weekend, it was very quiet, too quiet, with moderate business and perhaps five tables occupied. This is our fourth West African restaurant in this area; all but one are a bit rough around the edges. The male server spoke only to my husband, despite me initiating the conversation and placing the order. Hello, the 21st century is calling! The food takes a while to be ready; they all do for some reason. This time we waited half an hour with a near empty restaurant. If you are hungry, order an appetizer. Generally speaking, the food is good, and the portions are generous. The Food: Dibi Afra or Grilled Lamb, $26.99 - 4.5 Stars Menu: Popular SeneGambian street food. Meat marinated in authentic heritage seasonings and char-grilled served with onions, spicy mustard, and salad. There is something comforting about a giant pile of chopped lamb, fantastically seasoned, served with onions and an excellent salad. I packed 2/3 of the lamb and onions to take home. Grilled Golden Pompano, $25.99 - 5 Stars Menu: Whole Golden Pompano either grilled or fried marinated with heritage seasonings The fish is perfectly grilled. The fried plantain, a pleasant surprise as it was not mentioned on the menu, was wonderfully fried. Both salads are superb too. Beef Fataya or Meat Pie, $9.99 - 3 Stars Menu: Savory Empanadas (3) with choice chicken, beef, seafood or vegetarian We order meat pies from all four West African restaurants we visited. This is the first time where the beef tasted wasn't seasoned or flavorful enough to eat by itself without sauce. Rather disappointed. Jollof Rice side, $9.99 - 4 Stars Ever since the first West African restaurant we visited told us jollof rice recipe is every family and every restaurant's secret, I have made it my mission to order it at every restaurant. I took a close-up photo to show the seasonings in the rice. Theirs is very good, and I'm glad they offer it as a side.

The first plate took about 40 minutes to come out, which was an egusi soup to which we had not ordered. We still had to wait longer for all of our food to come out. Upon my food arriving, I noticed there was a hair in the Saran Wrap of the fufu, making contact with my food. Because we had already waited so long for our food to come out, I didn't bother to mention it to the worker. Comparing Jollof Hub to Pass D Jollof, this place has better portion sizes and better pricing. It was $26 for okra soup that includes protein and 2 portions of fufu whilst PDJ charges $34 for okra soup, you have to pay extra for protein, and 1 portion of fufu. That said, I don't think I'd come back here due to the food safety issue.

The chicken comes in big pieces--I really don't think they're getting them from the same place most supermarkets get their chicken. One example, the drumsticks here are big and heavy. Most places they're closer to a wing in size. Even with the heftier portions, everything's always cooked perfectly. Steaming hot (admittedly, we don't live far away), never dried out anywhere at all. Nice skin that's starting to get a little crisp but still holds some chewiness. They really season it, too--lots of flavors nobody else gets on their chicken. A little bit of spicy warmth but not too challenging if you can handle at least a little hot sauce now and then. The rice is very small-grained, tasty stuff. Not super filling (smallish portion). The waffles are sweet and chewy. They send syrup for the waffles, hot sauce for the bird. Now I'm craving it again just thinking through how to describe it.
