I was a patient and my care with the dentist and dental technicians was great -- which is why I…read moregave it three stars, but if it were the office staff, it would be a minus one. Everything went well my first two or three visits. But after going in for a check-up and getting an appointment for some fillings, everything fell apart. It had nothing to do with the clinical staff. It was the office staff which spoiled everything. The day I went in to get my cavities taken care of, I learned my insurance no longer covered my visit. It turned out that when I went for my check-up, the office staff failed to realize that my insurance no longer covered my care. That's one mistake, but then two weeks passed and they failed to notify me of this, another egregious error. It's bad enough to have to deal with a painful visit to the dentist but then to go in and they tell you that your insurance no longer covers your visit -- well, I was fit to be tied. You would've thought they would've let me know before coming in -- they had plenty of time. I left, called my insurance and found that I had some coverage but would have to pay upfront and submit it. So, after a while, I returned and asked to make an appointment. The office staff person said she would call after she reviewed the schedule, which she never did. Time passed and one of my teeth chipped and needed attention, so I went in to discuss coming in for an appointment. After waiting awhile, one of the office staff took me in her office and discussed my options. She said she wanted a down payment before coming in, but then I said, well let me just get a checkup first and see about the chipped tooth. She was about to agree, when suddenly she blurts out that they overheard me and another guy "bad mouthing" them. The truth is that another guy was telling me about problems he was having with the office staff and I told him about mine. Then we discussed some experiences we had with other dentists. We both agreed, the problem generally was not the dentist or dental professionals but the office staff. Well, I felt that this was an invasion of our privacy. We weren't talking out loud and announcing this to everyone there, but one of their staff apparently overhead part of what we were saying. What? I protested. "This is none of your business what I say in a private conversation with someone else." Yes, we were complaining privately to each other, but also talking about other dentists and even said good things about the dentists and dental assistants -- JUST NOT THE OFFICE STAFF. Well, I had, had it. I said heatedly that I wouldn't continue there and they asked me to leave, acting indignantly though they were the ones who had the temerity to be interlopers into the private conversations of their patients. But I was the bad guy because I became upset because they did this. What is wrong with these office people in Healthcare? It's not the first time I've had problems with people in medical offices. Almost never with the medical professionals. I guess it's because they are trained to treat people with respect and dignity. Office people, apparently not.

I struggled with whether or not to leave this review, but ultimately decided to because I believe…read morepatients deserve kindness, honesty, and clear communication. My first concern was my very first appointment. I specifically called to schedule a cleaning and exam and was told that would not be a problem. I was under the impression I would be receiving both that day and was disappointed when I only received an exam. I was later told that my cleaning would be done after all of my dental work had been completed. My appointment was scheduled close to lunchtime, so perhaps the hygienist was simply running behind. I really do not know. If that was the case, a simple explanation and an offer to reschedule my cleaning would have been more than enough. In my experience, most dental offices clean the patient first and then complete any necessary treatment unless the patient is in pain, requires immediate care, or declines a cleaning. Although I was disappointed, I was still willing to move forward with the recommended treatment. During my exam, I was told I needed several fillings and a root canal with a crown on my lower back molar. I was willing to move forward with that treatment. I was also told that a small chip on my front tooth was not worth fixing, despite it being a cosmetic concern of mine. Two weeks later, I returned for what would have been my very first root canal. I was visibly experiencing a great deal of dental anxiety and never even took my coat off. Looking back, I did not communicate that anxiety very well, and I am sure some of it came across as confusion and hesitation. I was asking questions when I was met with impatience and asked, "Are we going to do this today or not?" She stepped out briefly and returned less than a minute later to tell me that I was dismissed and free to leave. I was shocked and completely caught off guard. I did not argue, yell, curse, or become aggressive. I simply removed the patient bib and walked out. I have never been dismissed from any office in my life. After being dismissed, I walked back into the office because I genuinely wanted to understand what had gone wrong. I politely asked for an explanation and was simply told that I was free to find another provider. What continues to surprise me is that I never spoke to the dentist that day. He never came into the room. Had he simply taken a few moments to speak with me directly, it may have changed the entire outcome. Instead, I received a dismissal letter in the mail three days later that had been mailed the very same day. Ironically, what felt so upsetting at the time ultimately worked out in my favor. Since then, I sought a second opinion. I have had my cleaning completed, all of my dental work done, my front tooth repaired, and I did not need the root canal I was originally told I needed. The second office also diagnosed two additional cavities that were missed. Six weeks later, I am doing very well. In hindsight, being dismissed was one of the greatest blessings in disguise. Everything ultimately worked out for my good, and for that I am grateful. Sometimes asking lots of questions is not defiance. Sometimes it is simply fear. Patients deserve compassion in those moments. Ironically, this office did me a favor by dismissing me, so I suppose the only thing left to say is thank you.

Avoid Trailside Dental Care…read more After treatment at this office, I was left in severe pain and repeatedly asked to be evaluated by a dentist but was unable to speak with one. Instead, I was given guidance by staff while dealing with significant pain. I ultimately had to seek emergency care elsewhere, where the problem was properly resolved. In addition, I was told I needed 6-8 fillings and a crown. When I sought a second opinion, I was told that none of that work was necessary and that only one small area needed to be monitored. The difference between those two evaluations was alarming. Recommending large amounts of unnecessary dental work goes beyond poor judgment -- it's unethical. What makes this even more concerning is that the dentist at this office has been suspended by the Ohio State Dental Board and is currently practicing under probation for documented violations involving patient care. This is public information anyone can verify on the Ohio State Dental Board website. Please research carefully before choosing this office.
