I've only been here a few times, but have found great things, everything I've ever needed. Finding already grown (not bulbs) Dahlias are really hard to find. I searched for them as a gift and they had quite a few colors, great prices. I was helped by someone very knowledgable who also was willing to answer my questions. My last visit here last Saturday 6/23. This was my third visit this summer, I use to come here a lot in the past. After picking up about $60 worth of plants, I literally stood at the register for 5 minutes waiting for someone to come help me. 2 girls came out and starting counting my order. A young, cherub looking girl starts counting out 4 herbs... 4 succulents... I turn around because I know I got 3 herbs and 3 succulents. I told her you are miscounting Again. This is the THIRD time I've overpaid here. The first time I was charged extra for a 4" plant. The second time I was overcharged for a 4" plant, I was mad at myself for letting this happen again. This time I told the girl this keeps happening and she starting laughing! The second short hair girl at the register started laughing too. She starts counting again 4 herbs... I said to her, "have you been smoking herb at lunch? It's 3 herbs"! She starts laughing again with the other girl. I told her it's funny until it happens to you. More giggling... She calls out to someone in the building about a price, the person answers back and then says something else. The cash register girl says, "what she say"? and the cherub girl goes "who cars, it wasn't important". More laughing... You know, I'm just another customer to you but I've spent over $300 here this summer. You don't care register girls but San Lorenzo Garden Center rocks doors on flowers and customer service and was another great experience this Saturday. You guys lost out. Jeez girl if you can't count to 3, you shouldn't be smoking at work. Rookie. read more

I shop there frequently. Over the years I feel the quality has decreased. Usually, the people that work there are polite but, I have also have experienced standing at the counter waiting to pay and being ignored. I have experienced this several times. One time, actually left. I do continue to stop by and look to see what they have for plants. I will say, the plants that I purchase there are good quality. I just never know if I will be treated well, or not treated well when I purchase my plants. Because I support small businesses, I will keep going there and hoping that my experience with those who take my money improves. read more

I found this by accident when I made a stop at Aptos Feed and needed to kill a little bit of time. This is a small nursery with a nicely curated collection of plants. I often feel overwhelmed by the amount of plants in nurseries but Hidden Gardens has just the right amount. The employees were helpful but not pushy, which I appreciate. When one noticed me admiring a new variety of hibiscus, she came over to admire it, too. I wanted it but I needed a plant that would handle a little bit of shade in the morning. She immediately directed me to a Princess Plant and I fell in love. The price was right and she is a beauty. I also found a two gallon pink rock rose for 50% off and after inquiring why it was on sale (usually sale plants come with baggage) she told me that sometimes they just like to pick a plant and put the sale sign on it! This is the second time I've gone to Hidden Gardens Nursery that I have been completely ignored. I actually had to step out of the way of the owner and another employee, who acted as if I wasn't there. As I was walking down a pathway, another employee looked right at me and walked by. Great nursery, I've lived down the street for several years and it really is hidden. I'm SO glad my friend told me about it. It is my go to spot for my gardening needs now. The staff are very friendly, knowledgeable and they have a wide variety of flowers and plants to choose from. And if they don't have what you're looking for, they order it. Awesome! The staff is very helpful and they can order plants for you if they are available. Prices are comparable to others in the county with a nice selection of perennials, veggies and more. It's worth it to take the time to find this place (across from the Safeway store in Aptos). The staff are very helpful and knowledgeable and they always have what we need. We also buy our Xmas trees here and have bought many unique gifts and potted arrangements. read more

Rude and a ripoff, stay away. Today was my day off and I decided to treat myself to some new garden items. Growing up I came to hidden gardens for years with my mom; however, today was a totally new and miserable experience. Not one of the 4 workers said "hi, welcome, can we help you with anything, would you like a wagon" NOTHING After about 20 minutes of walking around I found a few things and would have bought more if someone spoke to me And helped me pick out the plant I needed. I then walked up to the cashier and she started ringing me up, again no hello. We noticed the same pots I chose were priced differently 1$ apart and yes I know it's only 1$ and so the woman asked her manager if she could give me the same lower price (I thought that was nice and the right thing to do). The manager looked at me so rudely and said, "no, the price went up we obviously have to pay for it and so does she." I was in shock, I almost thought she was joking. It was almost an unbelievable moment over 1$ mind you I was spending nearly $50. I almost walked out and left everything at the register. Nevertheless, I didn't want to ruin my gardening day. I left really upset and saddened this is the environment now of one of m favorite childhood places. As it was recommended to me again by DIG (they are the same owners) and that is sadly where the mistake must have been made. The owners of the gardens sold to A couple that then started dog and turned both of these places into overpriced, stuffy places that sell items for 5X the price you can find elsewhere. A little advice, be trendy and cool whatever- just try to respect people and have your employees have a little common curtesy. I will no longer be going here or DIG and that makes me bummed because I love plants and garden design but there are A LOT of other places in Santa Cruz that take care of their customers. read more

this place kicks -ass-. we didn't find it immediately; it truly lives up to its name, we had to get directions from -another- nursery (thanks, native revival! {who unfortunately didn't have the edible-type plants we were looking for}). we had some empty planter boxes that the maintenance guy tilled and layered with top soil, and were of a mind to grow some fruits and veggies. the lady who helped us was patient and informative as i stumbled through describing the sunlight (or lack thereof) at our place, and we left with tomatoes, peppers, herbs, lettuce, and a lovely dahlia for the front yard. it was hard not to blindly grab for plants, as everything was beautifully kept and well-priced. i will definitely have to trick my homebody mom out to this place some time soon. ps: BABY CHICKENS!!! read more

I use to have good experiences at Hidden gardens but the past few times I have been the customer service is lacking. I was there today to purchase an acacia BUSH with yellow flowers. Anastasia pointed to the back of the garden that had (acacia TREES - green, no yellow blossoms). I didn't see what I was looking for and she was put out when I asked her to take me to them. She told me there are many different types of acacia and she needed to know the name or she really couldn't help me. I told her I rely on the stores knowledge as I am not the horticulturist. They do have books there with pictures to help find the plant customers are seeking. She didn't offer that help. I ended up at Home Depot with Lauren who walked around the whole garden with a smile and a wealth of knowledge she was happy to share with me. A full 20 minutes. I got what I came for at a price that beat Hidden Garden. read more
