This store has absolutely every trinket and novelty item you can imagine--a perfect spot for finding gifts! The woman working there, who I believe is the owner, was incredibly helpful in tracking down a specific item for me. The whole vibe of the store is epic and truly captures the essence of "Rhode Island." They offer a wide variety of items, but Christmas time is especially magical with handmade ornaments and the best wrapping paper around. Prices are reasonable, too. Definitely one of my favorite places to stop by during a Wickford afternoon stroll! read more

I loved the selection from this cute shop!! I was able to find something for both my mother and me. The variety was amazing, and I especially loved the glass animals. A very cool gift store right in the middle of the village of Wickford. Far more than just the usual touristy type of place, the name is appropriate because this place is filled with creative and unique gifts. Lots of beautiful glass items like stunning windows ornaments, delicate goblets, and Xmas decorations. Also original wind chimes and hand crafted jewelery and ceramics. Different Drummer also has a humorous side and they frequently have a box of totally ridiculous flip flops on the steps. Also cups with absurd and funny sayings and colorful and surreal wrapping paper and greeting cards. The store isn't large but it is packed with unique and original treasures. A great place to find a unique and original gift for a friend, relative or better yet yourself. read more

These folks have such a good place. I love that you can find Troll Beads, independent artisan jewelry, home goods, paper goods, and a few surprises under one glorious Wickford roof. I go there every Christmas to get stocking stuffers and my spouse always gets me jewelry from here. It's a shoppe with a small footprint, but a large presence; vertical and horizontal glass cases serve as jewelry inspiration locations in the front, an assortment of small-press greeting cards stretches out (and upwards) in the back, and in the middle, a cast of on-trend characters from the Land of Attractive Small Home Goods beckons, bewitches. It is a difficult place to navigate when there are other customers, so unless you relish (see what I did there?) impersonating a sardine, my recommendation would be to choose a time when fewer people are likely to be shopping. When I am in Wickford this is my go to shop. I love stopping in and poking around. I get my crystal earrings here that have served all purposes, casual, weddings, etc and best part under $10 bucks! They have cute jewelry and carry funky stuff.... like the raccoon mask I wanted but told myself I couldn't have, ha! They have ornaments, cards, wind chimes and they all seem to be locally made. Also, their greeting card selection is the best as far as I'm concerned. I go way out of my way to stop in here whenever I need the perfect card for a birthday or anniversary. Fun, quirky, local - all the qualities I LOVE in a gift shop. People there are super nice and helpful. They'll give you suggestions or just let you wander around poking into the corners (and there's lots of those!). Just be warned, there are lots of breakables near the door and it can get congested. A bit better layout would be my suggestion. Very cool and different selection of greeting cards. I always find a couple. Not the cheapest for sure, but if you want that, go to Wally World. Fun, cool, eclectic. The BEST place for greeting cards. You will find something for anyone & everyone here. Susan & Amy put a lot of thought and care into everything they carry & the result is a total smorgasbord of awesome. Every square inch of space is utilized in this smallish storefront in the heart of historic Wickford. A little overwhelming at times. If you are claustrophobic you might want to pop a zanax before trying to shop on a Saturday during the summer or Xmas shopping season. Don't miss it next time you are in South County. They have cute items and fun gifts at the DD. I thought one of their items was cute so I wanted to take a picture of it. The woman working there was very rude to me and abruptly asked me not to take photos of her items, saying it from across the store. I was slightly taken aback by her approach. I can understand if you do not want photos taken but have some courtesy and respect. Like the gifts but the customer service left much to be desired. Fun, Funky, Quirky, Unique, One-of-a-kind, Local gift shop! It is located in Wickford amongst all the other lovely local shops, however this is the one I am always most excited about visiting! I love to frequent the Different Drummer for jewelry, ornaments, and cards. The employees at this store are super friendly, helpful, and have a good sense of humor! This is a store that is PACKED with items in every nook and cranny. While this store is extremely small, you could literally spend hours in here looking and I'm sure you wouldn't see everything, but that is what makes it so charming. read more

My fiance recently found an item at this store that was hanging from the ceiling in the store. It appeared to be something that you could hang outside and would blow in the wind. They had him pay for it before taking it down. He gave it to me for a Christmas present. I opened it on Sunday and realized that it was made out of thin plastic and sewing thread. I showed it to my fiance and he said that they never had him inspect the item and if they had, he would not have purchased it. I got on their website to check out their return policy. The website states: "Our Guarantee: If for any reason a product does not meet your expectations, please call within 10 days with the reason for return. The item must be in its original box and in saleable condition. We will gladly exchange it or refund the full purchase price." It also states that you should call them. I called them today (9 days after the purchase). After explaining that the item was not what we had expected and that we were disappointed in the quality, the lady was very rude and informed me that I could only receive store credit. I said that I would come down to the store personally that night to discuss the item. I went to the store tonight and stated that I would like to make a return. She stated that I would be receiving store credit. I gave her the print off of the return policy from the website. She stated that that return policy was for website customers only (which it does not state and the receipt gives you the website to go to for further information). She was very defensive and rude the entire time. While I was in the process of trying to decide if I should take the problem to the Attorney General's Office or just suck it up and pick something out that I didn't want, but would settle for (They have to sell something better than plastic held together with thread, right?), the lady came back to me, snatched my item out of my hand, gave me my $63 back and told me to never come to her store again. Regardless of this horrific experience I had tonight, I have gone into this store multiple times before hoping that they would have something nice for a gift. The items are all grossly overpriced. ($63 dollars for an item no bigger than a foot tall and no thicker than 1/2 inch made out of plastic and sewing thread!) I would go to Blue Hydrangea instead. It is a couple of stores down and has a nice collection of gifts and the owner is very nice. The prices are much more reasonable and they have a return policy that works for everyone. read more
