I was excited to try this place after all the hype the other location gets. I was disappointed! Chips and guacamole came out with only a small plastic container full of guacamole for a price of $7.50. I immediately asked for " more guacamole ". This would be a 5 star review if they would get rid of their outdoor seating and made a couple extra parking spaces. The food is fantastic, the parking stinks!!! They literally have 3 spaces and you get yelled at if you park in the other persons lot. Really delicious food. I live nearby and decided to try them today for the first time. I ordered the chicken traditional burrito and wow that is good. Not inexpensive but reasonable at $9 considering they give you a huge burrito. It's actually big enough for two. I also like that it wasn't spicy as many people, like me, don't really care for spicy food, just favorable food. They do offer a spicy option for $.50 extra. The place is small and I think the only eat in option are the picnic tables outside. But it's very cozy and has a lot of character. Excellent and fast service. I'll be back. read more

Been here 3 times. First time was take out tacos from the main restaurant and they were pretty expensive but good. They had duck empanadas in the premade fridge downstairs that were amazing and the only reason there was more than one star. The second time I got the grass fed porchetta from the downstairs to go spot. It was disgusting. A sloppy mess of cold fat (no meat just fat) and animal skin with way too much pickled veg and enough horseradish sauce to kill a donkey. I threw it out and chalked it up to a bad day. Went back today with a friend who used to work there and got the verde tacos. Again disgusting. Soggy corn tortilla (not grilled at all) that was so mangled and ripped that I could even eat it without a fork. The tacos were skimpy as hell with a handful of rice on the side for $13, $13 friggin dollars for 2 trash taco and a handful of bland rice? You can shuv that up your fake Mexican asses. Furthermore there was not a spec of cilantro or onion to be seen in any of the meals. Really? Is this Mexican cuisine???? Has the taco scene really gotta that bad in Newport? My husband and I tried this place on a whim. So to say that our experience was terrible would be the understatement of the century! First, they enter in the WRONG cell number to text us when our table was ready. After having 2 $12.00 drinks at the bar (best part of the meal), we were seated in the dark upstairs "dining" area. We were seated at the same time as a very large (15 or so) party. We were literally forgotten by the server for the rest of the of the meal. Granted, she had that large party as well, but seriously??? On to the "food". .........we ordered their version of "fresh street corn". It was More like microwaved frozen corn niblets with spices served in a cast iron pan. The server didn't even bring side plates for us! My husband ordered nachos with chicken and pick de Gallo. The chicken was dried out and tasteless, and the chips were tasty but excessively greasy. I had the pork tamale....OMG...HORRIBLE!! It was literally a large piece of tasteless pork which was covered in maza on only one side. The pork itself was full of fat and not cut or shredded in the least. On top of that, it was questionable if it was even fully cooked! Save yourself the trouble, money, and disappointment and NEVER NEVER NEVER eat here. read more

The margaritas were good- the bartender was super nice and professional. We ordered an appetizer.... terrible! The cheese was like bubblegum.. very elastic- you could scoop all the cheese up with your fork.. we said we didn't like it, so we got chips and salsa... a Mexican restaurant is defined by their salsa... their homemade salsa, not store bought jar salsa! It was terrible. The chips were stale. Overall horrible food experience. The location and drinks were good. I wish the food was better I would have eaten dinner there instead of take out pizza. The food and cocktails are consistently very good (and often great). My husband and I went last night and sat at the downstairs bar, and, unfortunately, the service was terrible. The bartender clearly forgot to put our order in (the couples on either side of us, who ordered AFTER us, received their appetizers 10 minutes before we did, and finished their meals before we ever got our entrees). The young man behind the bar blamed it on the kitchen, though it was clearly his fault. We never got the extra spoon we asked for (he said he had to go get one and then came back without it). Our 1st bill (given to us by the female bartender) seemed to be comping our 2nd round of drinks (which we greatly appreciated) and then the guy came back and added them back on. Nothing to make up for the very poor experience he gave us. He's clearly in the wrong line of work. read more

We got take out for 7 of us for dinner. Everyone was super happy with their meal. 4 of us had the bodega bowl with the chicken tinga and charred tomato vinaigrette. Beautiful presentation and the perfectly cooked strips of bacon were a nice addition to a delicious salad entrée. So pleased with this place. The guys were so nice and accommodating to our needs. Parking is limited and they do close a little early in my opinion but the food is top notch! read more

I just had a terrible experience at this restaurant after years of raving about it. So much so that I created a Yelp account just to warm others. First, we were seated on the upper floor even though we mentioned to the hostess that we had 2 babies in strollers and she assured us we could be seated on the first floor. We had to carry our strollers up the stairs, which nobody helped us do. Once we were seated, it just got worse. Our drinks took 30 minutes and came out after we were finished with appetizers. Nobody ever refilled the water pitcher. 2 meals came out 20 minutes late. Nobody ever asked us how the meal was. I had to ask for a side of sour cream 3 times, despite asking for it when we ordered our meal. Then our waiter left and did not inform our new waiter that he had agreed to comp the meals that came out late. I even witnessed the table next to us deal with the same type of terrible service - the waiter didn't put in for a meal and then questioned the customer "well, do you even want it?" I'm extremely disappointed in this experience and will not be returning. Others be warned. read more

We had a large party (all local ppl) hardly anyone there later in eve, yet we had long wait for first drinks, server never came back for food order, 3 of us tried get her attention after first drinks were almost gone. 3 people had to get up from table to go over to the bar order second drinks. Another amazing restaurant in the Diego's family!. The food is fresh and creative with lots of authentic Mexican flavors. The Mexican street corn is not to be missed. This is my new favorite place. I have lived in Newport for 18 years and have always enjoyed the atmosphere, food and service at the original Diego's down town. However, this location offers and off-the-beaten track vibe, great views and, like the original, excellent food and service. Whether or not Mexican food is your favorite, you will find something to love here. It is all fresh and delicious. The margarita's are incredible. If you are lucky enough to have Meghan as a server, consider your self very fortunate. She is friendly, knowledgeable, efficient and has great suggestions. It has only recently opened so we have not been acquainted with all the staff members yet, but I am sure you won't find a bad apple in the bunch. Don't miss this destination. read more

I really wanted to love this place, cuz the OG Diego's is bomb and always a great experience...but eight dollars for a cup (not a bowl, just a cup) of bland 'Aztec soup' that tasted like a can of sodium free chef boyardee scraped from the bottom of an iron pan? Metallic, strangely chunky, and flavorless. Oh, did I mention eight damn dollars?! I get that serving it in an artisan ceramic mug is somehow supposed to justify the price, but you couldn't even throw some salt in that? Sour cream? Cheddar? I should have just went across the street to Cumberland Farms and picked up a can of Campbell's. Could have saved some coins and a few layers of skin on the roof of my mouth. Did I mention how hot the soup was? I'm not sure if ya'll were trying to kill some botulism lingering at the bottom of the pan you scraped that ladle of soup from, but it took almost twenty minutes before I was able to take a sad slurpful. Also, how do you mess up a quesadilla? Somehow you managed to, while charging almost ten bucks for a tiny tortilla folded over a sad clump of barely melted cheese and a few cubes of fatty chicken. Maybe it was an off day, or you just weren't feeling our order, but twenty bucks is a lot in this capitalist nightmare we live in. Do right by your future customers who want to support their funky island bodega, maybe by sprinkling some cumin or chili powder in that soup, and put it in a bowl, not a thimble. Next time, throw some cilantro and sour cream on top of that sad, sad 'dilla. Embrace the culture you are trying to sell, liven your ish up with flavor, dress up that tiny ass eight dollar fistful of holy-fuck-it's-so-hot-I-think-it-might-be-a-health-code violation soup. With great price tags, comes great responsibility. Oh, and the next time we give our server two cards, that means we want to split the bill in half, not have one card charged.
