But about a year ago I had a defective shoe and when I brought it up there for a replacement or exchange (they have a 60 day return policy) I was NOT treated nicely. She made me feel like I was doing something very wrong and she was extremely rude. She (the manager of the store) didn't care about my previous concerns with how shoes used to fit and caused my toes to be crowded and she rushed me out of the store with a replacement shoe that was not wide enough and did not help my issues. After wearing those shoes for a week or so I realized they were causing my toes to crowd even more and my smallest toe was curling under my other toes causing me to walk on it. Because she had made me feel so bad about my previous exchange, I just gave those shoes away and bought new shoes online off the Brooks website. I have not returned to Fleet Feet since. I've just bought directly from the supplier. If you don't want people to utilize the return policy, don't offer it. I would consider visiting another fleet feet in the future but it won't be this one.

We started with a foot scan, and she walked me through what all the measurements meant. After discussing what I was looking for (walking shoes) and describing issues I've had with shoes in the past (heel pain, not enough support), she started the process of pulling shoes for me. Without her expertise, I never would have pulled shoes in a size 10.5--a full size larger than I typically wear!--and wouldn't have tried any/most of the styles she selected. She was super patient and helped me try on at least 10 different pairs of shoes so I could compare them, and when I waffled about whether I liked the color of the shoes I'd landed on, she brought out the other color available and let me walk around in both to make sure I was comfortable with my decision. Then she helped me pick out insoles that would make the shoes I picked even more supportive; I think we went through 5 or six of those to find the right ones. Given the cost of the shoes they sell, this is the level of service I would've hoped for but honestly didn't expect to receive. The store was busy from the time I arrived to the time I left (almost an hour later), but Annie didn't pressure me into buying shoes or insoles and the store was well-staffed enough to ensure that other customers had associates helping them, too. I felt comfortable with the choices Annie helped me make and left the store with a pair of shoes that I can't wait to wear in. I would definitely recommend this location to someone who knows nothing about their feet and biomechanics but wants more comfortable shoes, and I imagine they would be just as great for seasoned athletes looking to pick up their next pair of runners.

When I returned some items, I was told $50 of my refund had to be issued as a Nike gift card. The issue is that my receipt clearly states: "Refunds will be issued based on the original form of payment." There is no mention anywhere that using a Visa gift card would force store credit instead. This was never explained at checkout, and the associate offered no help--just told me to call customer service. If there are limitations with certain payment types, that needs to be clearly communicated upfront. Otherwise, it feels misleading and leaves customers stuck with store credit they didn't agree to. Disappointing experience and poor customer service by Kelsey who claimed to be the manager but offered zero help and instead said to call customer service 800 number if I needed help. After walking around, some sections of the store give off "closing" vibes with empty or disheveled shelves and displays, or products on display that definitely need to be replaced. To go along with that, the floors are worn and stained in multiple places, shelving units are in disrepair, ceilings are stained, and more. The store needs some TLC. While I was in store to look at very specific items, I decided to wander the aisles and look for any deals or items of interest. I walked around the store and through each section for over 15 minutes, and passed by no fewer than 12 Associates and not one time was acknowledged or spoken to. Not that I needed help, but it is wild that no one took one moment to greet a customer, not even when I was leaving the store and passed by 4 Associates huddled by the registers. Overall, the store is not a good representation of Academy, or at least the Academy Sports I remember visiting.
